speech

Avatar f tn Ask your therapists for therapies that do not require physical movement like mental imagery, mirror-box therapy, thermal therapy, music therapy, passive movement. If they do not know of these they are way behind in keeping up with research. Good luck.
Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
193609 tn?1292180293 She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!

Avatar m tn Thank you! I have many of those symptoms. I am in Vestibular PT in an effort to improve the symptoms. I hope it helps.
Avatar m tn He was diagnosed with SPD in May of this year. We completed the Sensory Integration Therapy (30 one hour sessions) in August. We saw HUGE results both at home and at the start of the recent school year. Fast forward a couple of months and we are back to where we started at school. At home we have seen a few bumps in the road both nothing major.
Avatar n tn Thanks for your input! It's really appreciated. Today, I actually got him to look me in the eyes for a few seconds and sit next to me and give me a hug and kiss!!! I'm tickled pink! It was AWESOME! My daughter has a nurse come to her house for a KY program called "Every Child Succeeds." She has sent an evaluation into Head Start for autism and speech therapy, but since he's met his milestones and has exceeded most, he has been turned down for evaluation.
Avatar n tn Hello I am worried about my nephew. He is 3 years 8 months Speech: His speech is delayed, doesn't talk much, doesn't have many sentences, a lot of speech is not clear. Speech therapy since 2. He never asks questions. He doesn't say "where are we going?" "what/who is this?" No "why" questions at all much less "how." If he is in the supermarket or stores, he doesn't ask for things.
Avatar f tn suggested occupational therapy then speech therapy. She said that some kids who have speech delays are showing some Autistic traits that will disappear later on. My husband doesn't want him to start any therapies yet because he said he's still young & he wants to give him a time because he believes that it's not Autism. We enrolled him to a toddler class instead so he can interact with other kids because he's our only child & he doesn't have playmates.
Avatar f tn Hi, it is hard to say with a child of 3. Many are quite rambunctious and full of energy. However, your little guy seems not to be able to maintain himself in a room full of other energetic little ones so he is standing out as different. Mine did too . . . so don't think I'm saying this like it is bad. I don't know if your son's breathing issues are related to his issues in daycare . . . are they due to a premature birth?
Avatar n tn He also has a speech delay that was diagnosed about the age of two. He has speech therapy at school. He has been having problems at school this year with academics as well as behavior. His father, mother and I all feel that his behavior has gotten worse this past year.
Avatar f tn Go on pinters they have alot of ideas for baby rooms and affordable ideas as well I hope this helps
Avatar m tn m really running out of ideas and it seems to be something that will never go away! I was wondering if anyone has similar problems / can shed some light?
Avatar f tn Apartment therapy is a website with ideas for small spaces. I have a very small space and a room divider sounds good. Ever think about curtains that hang from the ceiling? Nothing to knock over. Another idea is just having the couch be the divider of space: maybe put a room divider between the couch and a crib so it doesn't have as much chance to tip over.
Avatar n tn He has also been diagnosed as a Sensory Child. We have issues with gross, fine, speech, etc. and everyone says he is a question child. A friend of mine, her son is a year old than mine and has the same exact issues and was diagnosed with PDD-NOS. She also lives in another state. I do receive services for my son every day. He has a Speech Therapist, OT, PT, EIA & Special Education Teacher. Can someone please give me any other ideas as to where I should go, do, etc.
Avatar f tn Your pediatrician should be able to recommend exactly what type of therapy he needs. Usually this is speech and occupational therapy. Sometimes physical therapy based on the need. Let me know if you have any more questions, I know quite a bit about this. Also, does he like dogs? You could use the money to get him a service dog.
Avatar f tn Hello My son has recently started Kindergarten and seems to be more sensitive to sounds He was diagnosed PDD-NOS a year ago, school does not recognize a diagnosis and has him under "developmental delay" category since he is very "borderline" and while some specialists see ASD in him, others do not. He does have IEP, and teacher's assistant helping him through transition period.
Avatar f tn Have you thought about getting a referral from her pediatrician to get her tested for autism? If she does have autism, the diagnosis open's new doors. ABA seems to be the route that most parents of children with autism go. I have heard alot of great things about ABA but haven't tried it yet because of costs. There is also floor time and some others I can't think of at the moment.
Avatar f tn ewford thanks for your input. No heart skips or chest pain. IBS symptoms over the last few years. UTI uncommon. Sensitive to noise- was in the GP surgery recently and could barely tolerate noise of someone texting beside me! Here tonight with family at family dinner and, as the day has gone on, I feel 'weird'. Sometimes feel as if legs will buckle, speech fine but sometimes have to think carefully what I'm speaking,as if speech slightly difficcult. V. weird.
Avatar f tn My son just turned two and I was worried about his speech. I spoke with his pediatrician who set me up with a speech therapist. He sees her next week to evaluate him. He could have a speech delay. My son speaks a few words but is not putting sentences together. He is also very smart and can watch you do something once and he knows how to do it. Id talk with his doctor and set up an Appt with a speech therapist that is specialized in children.
Avatar n tn The best way to proceed would be to arrange a comprehensive developmental evaluation, including cognitive, social, emotional, fine and gross motor. Speech/Language and Occupational Therapy (particulally to address sensory integration problems) should be included in the evaluation.
Avatar f tn Btw, getting a birth to three person can help with speech. He should qualify for speech therapy which does not mean he has autism.
Avatar n tn Hi, Brain injured patients may receive rehabilitation that involves individually tailored treatment programs in the areas of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language therapy, physiatry, psychology, and social support. A complete physical and neurological examination is needed in each treatment program. It would be best to discuss which treatment option is best for you with your doctor for proper evaluation and management. Take care and keep us posted.
