Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
193609 tn?1292180293 She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!

Avatar n tn He has been diagnosed with a speech delay of about a year and a gross motor delay of 10 months. He is receiving speech therapy but not with much progress. He lines toys up about 70 percent of the time, rarely makes eye contact, doesn't respond to his name and wont answer questions and has a hard time telling me what he wants. He used to point out his body parts but no longer does that.
Avatar f tn s on a sliding fee schedule of payment and therefore can even be totally free based on income. Physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy will all happen if needed either by appointment or even in your home. yes, a speech therapist may travel to your home to help you. You'll be assigned a case manager to track progress of your child. I highly recommend you get involved in this. Once the child turns three, the public school system takes over.
Avatar n tn Here is what I would suggest for you...if there is a delay in speech, then you qualify for a state evaluation before the age of three. The pediatrician should have notified them already since it sounds like there is a speech issue. You can call the office and they can tell you the name of the program that does early interventions in your state. Our is First Steps here in La., but there are differnt names for the programs in other parts of the country.
Avatar f tn hello anyone got advise on how to get my 3 year old to have his teeth brushed he hasnt let me since he got his teeth im worried now ?
709940 tn?1231900307 I am going through this process in the UK and have just managed to get the Education Authority to agree to my son having speech and language therapy sessions from a therapist once a week and daily sessions with a teaching assistant. No other child in his school gets that level of support. But the private report I paid for proved that he needed that level of therapy. I know we shouldn't have to do any of this. Having a child on the spectrum is enough work!
Avatar f tn This can be assessed by a sleep questionnaire and therapy is based on the severity of symptoms. Disorders related to dreaming could occur with REM sleep behavior disorders. Here the person acts out the dreams. This can be assessed by a sleep questionnaire and therapy is based on the severity of symptoms. I would advise you to discuss your symptoms with your primary care physician who may then refer you to a sleep specialist for further evaluation. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I'm still a work in progress :o), so I can't help with your questionairre; however there is a recent article in Clinical Care Options that discusses the term "cure" as is used in HCV management. Here's the addy: http://tinyurl.com/2m9fwn You'll probably be asked to register, but it's quick and free.
Avatar f tn Btw, getting a birth to three person can help with speech. He should qualify for speech therapy which does not mean he has autism.
Avatar n tn Hi, Brain injured patients may receive rehabilitation that involves individually tailored treatment programs in the areas of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language therapy, physiatry, psychology, and social support. A complete physical and neurological examination is needed in each treatment program. It would be best to discuss which treatment option is best for you with your doctor for proper evaluation and management. Take care and keep us posted.
1088527 tn?1425313375 I'm glad you gave an update from your speech therapy visit. It sounds like you have a good one and hopefully you will find the right combination of food consistency and flavor. I am picking up my afo next week - maybe we can compare notes. Mine is non-hinged, so I doubt i can sleep in it. I am getting it to stabiize my foot while my foot stress fracture heals. Do you happen to have any of those black boots they often give for foot injuries?
Avatar n tn My sister also had sensory processing issues and a language processing disorder that she had to go through speech/language therapy from around the age of 4 through 4th grade or so. She went to a small private college that had a class size of 100 students (about 400 students undergraduate). She coudl test well on written but not on multiple choice things. The smaller class sizes and student body helped her adjust to college life.
Avatar n tn Hi Everyone- I'm new here, but I had a question about my 2 year old boy. He was diagonosed with PDD-NOS in August and he's been getting ABA therapy for about a month now. I was wondering if anyone has any great success stories with ABA. I know he's been getting only a month, but already I'm getting a bit frustrated. Before he started ABA, he has gotten 6 months of other therapy- speech, special instruction and physical therapy along with his twin sister.
676912 tn?1332812551 He doesn't have speech therapy. He's five years old. He speaks clearly, and has a huge vocabulary, normal for his age. I'm not 100% sure about all of it, but I know it has more to do with his brain and comprehension.
Avatar m tn It’s never too late for speech therapy. Just go to a clinic that specializes in stuttering therapy. Not every SLP will have experience in this area as our field is quite broad. They will come up with treatment techniques that is best suited for your need!
Avatar f tn Is your son receiving speech therapy? I think that is the most important thing for him to improve his language. If he is already getting speech therapy, maybe he needs it more often.
Avatar f tn suggested occupational therapy then speech therapy. She said that some kids who have speech delays are showing some Autistic traits that will disappear later on. My husband doesn't want him to start any therapies yet because he said he's still young & he wants to give him a time because he believes that it's not Autism. We enrolled him to a toddler class instead so he can interact with other kids because he's our only child & he doesn't have playmates.
Avatar f tn For most stroke patients, the rehabilitation process includes nursing, occupational therapy (OT), physical therapy (PT), therapeutic recreation (TR) and speech therapy (or speech language therapy, SLP). OT involves exercise and training to help the stroke patient relearn everyday activities, sometimes called the Activities of daily living (ADLs), such as eating and drinking, dressing, bathing, cooking, reading and writing, and toileting.
Avatar m tn My 4 years old son does not show interest in playing with kids his age. He some times plays with his 7 years old brother but for a short while only, as he gets board easily. At the age of two we noticed that he was not establishing good eye contact with us and some times he used to drift by staring into the ceiling, and he was not talking except for few words. Doctors were not decisive about his conditions as we thought this may be autism.
500419 tn?1220124743 My son had a speech delay they recognized at 18 months after he had tubes put in his ears around the same time. I took him to speech therapy at "Columbus Speech and Hearing." They first did a hearing check to make sure everything was ok. Then autism was another good thing to look into. Their first plan of attach, though, was "early intervention" with speech therapy one day a week for a half hour at "Columbus Speech and Hearing.
Avatar n tn My husband was diagnosed with Graved Disease and has had radio iodine therapy in March. He has since fallen severely hypothyroid and has slurred speech as well as fatigue, weight gain, and irritability. His MD has put him on Synthroid, but my question is will his speech go back to normal and if so, how long? It's very disturbing to hear because it sounds as if he has been drinking (he doesn't at all), and I'm worried how this may affect him long term.
Avatar f tn Hi, my son is almost 3.5 yo. He was diagnosed with speech delay 6 moths ago, so far he finished 6 weeks Intervention program and 6 weeks of speech therapy. He's doing great, now he has around 100 words and likes to sing songs. He has troubles expressing his emotions and wishes, and does not play with kids in preschool. He's great with fine and gross motor skills, really good climber, knows all letters, counting till 100, likes to write numbers and letters, has good eye contact.
Avatar n tn I was just wondering what is "normal" speech for a 2.5 year old boy. My son does say short sentences, but it's not what I would consider spontaneous conversation. He will say "I want to go outside" or "I want to carry it", but most of his sentences are sentences he's heard us say before like "How was your day?" and "I love you". The other day, after rolling his truck down the stairs, he did come tell me "truck go downstairs".
Avatar f tn The first professionals to be involved are usually the Speech Therapist - who should be experienced in speech disorders, developmental disorders such as autism. They should assess her receptive and expressive speech, auditory processing and auditory memory and working memory. They should assess her ability to comprehend and infer information. When she is older she should be assessed for Semantic Pragmatic Speech Disorder.
Avatar f tn I have a speech problem and what didn’t help me was everybody reinforcing that I had the problem. That only willed the stronghold and made me believe it more. She’s still young tell her she can speak and when people speak they don’t think about what they are going to say they just speak. And just let her do it if she stutters or anything just wait for her to finish speaking. She’ll get it down and it would help to find out why she turned out that way. My dad made me stutter.
