I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.

She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!

Yes U should look into speech therapy, but therapy in general...make sure his hearing is ok......there r forms of autisum that can case speech delays...look up aspbergers (sp?).......I hope ur son responds to whichever therapy u choose.

He has been diagnosed with a speech delay of about a year and a gross motor delay of 10 months. He is receiving speech therapy but not with much progress. He lines toys up about 70 percent of the time, rarely makes eye contact, doesn't respond to his name and wont answer questions and has a hard time telling me what he wants. He used to point out his body parts but no longer does that.

Here is what I would suggest for you...if there is a delay in speech, then you qualify for a state evaluation before the age of three. The pediatrician should have notified them already since it sounds like there is a speech issue. You can call the office and they can tell you the name of the program that does early interventions in your state. Our is First Steps here in La., but there are differnt names for the programs in other parts of the country.

I am going through this process in the UK and have just managed to get the Education Authority to agree to my son having speech and language therapy sessions from a therapist once a week and daily sessions with a teaching assistant. No other child in his school gets that level of support. But the private report I paid for proved that he needed that level of therapy. I know we shouldn't have to do any of this. Having a child on the spectrum is enough work!

Btw, getting a birth to three person can help with speech. He should qualify for speech therapy which does not mean he has autism.

Hi, Brain injured patients may receive rehabilitation that involves individually tailored treatment programs in the areas of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language therapy, physiatry, psychology, and social support. A complete physical and neurological examination is needed in each treatment program. I'm glad you gave an update from your speech therapy visit. It sounds like you have a good one and hopefully you will find the right combination of food consistency and flavor. Do you happen to have any of those black boots they often give for foot injuries?

My sister also had sensory processing issues and a language processing disorder that she had to go through speech/language therapy from around the age of 4 through 4th grade or so. She went to a small private college that had a class size of 100 students (about 400 students undergraduate). She coudl test well on written but not on multiple choice things. The smaller class sizes and student body helped her adjust to college life.

Hi Everyone- I'm new here, but I had a question about my 2 year old boy. He was diagonosed with PDD-NOS in August and he's been getting ABA therapy for about a month now. I was wondering if anyone has any great success stories with ABA. I know he's been getting only a month, but already I'm getting a bit frustrated. Before he started ABA, he has gotten 6 months of other therapy- speech, special instruction and physical therapy along with his twin sister.

He doesn't have speech therapy. He's five years old. He speaks clearly, and has a huge vocabulary, normal for his age. I'm not 100% sure about all of it, but I know it has more to do with his brain and comprehension.

It’s never too late for speech therapy. Just go to a clinic that specializes in stuttering therapy. Not every SLP will have experience in this area as our field is quite broad. They will come up with treatment techniques that is best suited for your need!

Is your son receiving speech therapy? I think that is the most important thing for him to improve his language. If he is already getting speech therapy, maybe he needs it more often.

Hi, my son is almost 3.5 yo. He was diagnosed with speech delay 6 moths ago, so far he finished 6 weeks Intervention program and 6 weeks of speech therapy. He's doing great, now he has around 100 words and likes to sing songs. He has troubles expressing his emotions and wishes, and does not play with kids in preschool. He's great with fine and gross motor skills, really good climber, knows all letters, counting till 100, likes to write numbers and letters, has good eye contact.

I was just wondering what is "normal" speech for a 2.5 year old boy. My son does say short sentences, but it's not what I would consider spontaneous conversation. He will say "I want to go outside" or "I want to carry it", but most of his sentences are sentences he's heard us say before like "How was your day?" and "I love you". The other day, after rolling his truck down the stairs, he did come tell me "truck go downstairs".

I have a speech problem and what didn’t help me was everybody reinforcing that I had the problem. That only willed the stronghold and made me believe it more. She’s still young tell her she can speak and when people speak they don’t think about what they are going to say they just speak. And just let her do it if she stutters or anything just wait for her to finish speaking. She’ll get it down and it would help to find out why she turned out that way. My dad made me stutter.
