Avatar n tn Hi Everyone- I'm new here, but I had a question about my 2 year old boy. He was diagonosed with PDD-NOS in August and he's been getting ABA therapy for about a month now. I was wondering if anyone has any great success stories with ABA. I know he's been getting only a month, but already I'm getting a bit frustrated. Before he started ABA, he has gotten 6 months of other therapy- speech, special instruction and physical therapy along with his twin sister.
Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
193609 tn?1292180293 She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!
Avatar n tn t progress at all and then begin to progress later on, and some who do not show signs of progress for many years and may need therapy for the rest of their life. As a mother of an autistic child, you are doing great! You may be able to find autism support groups in your area; getting together with other mothers of autistic children can provide great friendship and support.
Avatar f tn Therapists’ first work with patients to create sing-song sentences that can be set to familiar tunes, then work on removing the melody to leave behind a more normal speaking pattern. This kind of therapy is recommended for patients who have no meaningful form of speech, but can understand language and have the patience for therapy sessions. I hope this helps. Take care always and regards.

Avatar n tn Hello, I have a 4 year old boy who does not speak - thru speech therapy and some bio-med we managed to get him to say some sounds some words and word apprximations. At this point we are willing to try anything I heard from someone that there was a big study in NY where some specially trained dogs helped kids with speech delays. does anyone know anything about it?
Avatar n tn He is in a nursing home and a week ago failed his 2nd swallow test (the one performed in the hospital). They immediately stopped all therapy, physical and speech, at first saying they were giving him a rest because he wasn't making any progress. Later my mother was told it was stopped due to insurance reasons.

Avatar m tn He still at times repeats things that are said to him, I just want to be able to have a conversation with him and he is not at that level yet. He gets speech therapy twice a week for 10 minutes. Any suggestions or am I over reacting. Oh yeah he has good eye contact also. Basically it is the language delay that is bothering me because he has two cousins the same age and they talk all the time.
Avatar f tn Only thing I have to do is remind him to take his pills. Speech never was affected but he had speech therapy to deal with cognition and swallowing problems. He was fine with a little limp..doesn't really need cane or walker unless we go to the mall or somewhere that requires more walking than what he can tolerate. I hope all goes well for your father. It seems like he's progressing rather well if they're talking about letting him out of the acute rehab center.
Avatar n tn I would absolutely recommend seeking appropriate special education and speech therapy services for your child. The evidence is very clear that children diagnosed with autism can make substantial progress when they receive appropriate and intensive intervention at a young age. I strongly recommend that you avoid using medication to treat behavioral difficulties, especially with a child as young as yours.
Avatar f tn s on a sliding fee schedule of payment and therefore can even be totally free based on income. Physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy will all happen if needed either by appointment or even in your home. yes, a speech therapist may travel to your home to help you. You'll be assigned a case manager to track progress of your child. I highly recommend you get involved in this. Once the child turns three, the public school system takes over.

Avatar n tn Your brother will not only need treatment from a neurologist but also from a rehab specialist. He will need physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. Please consult a good rehab specialist. NIMS is a good hospital in Hyderabad, please discuss these options with his neurologist. Also please go ahead and try alternate treatment like homeopathy. Take care!
Avatar m tn My son was saying 20 words by the age of 18 months and by 2 1/2 had over a hundred words, however they were nearly all labels, he found it very difficult (and still does to a certain extent) to structure sentances, ask questions etc etc. By 3 years old he was quite echolaic, confused me, you, your etc rearely used the word no and never said yes in response to a question.
