Avatar m tn It’s never too late for speech therapy. Just go to a clinic that specializes in stuttering therapy. Not every SLP will have experience in this area as our field is quite broad. They will come up with treatment techniques that is best suited for your need!
Avatar f tn For most stroke patients, the rehabilitation process includes nursing, occupational therapy (OT), physical therapy (PT), therapeutic recreation (TR) and speech therapy (or speech language therapy, SLP). OT involves exercise and training to help the stroke patient relearn everyday activities, sometimes called the Activities of daily living (ADLs), such as eating and drinking, dressing, bathing, cooking, reading and writing, and toileting.
293420 tn?1243142938 I think it would be great to have a Speech/Language Impaired forum. There are TONS of parents who post about their toddlers/children having speech and language issues, but they have to post on Parenting Toddlers 1-5. It would be great to have all of the posts in one place and be able to track one another's progress with their children and hear stories from other parents about their S/L impaired children. I'm an SLP and I would LOVE to have a forum for this.

Avatar f tn It is good that he is willing to play with his cousin and that he is receiving speech therapy. Have you asked the therapist for his or her thoughts? They may know or have suspicions of a problem, but may not be allowed to bring it up. Here in the US, you would either consult your pediatrician, a developmental pediatrician, or a pediatric neurologist. I strongly urge you to do so as soon as possible, as the earlier your son receives the necessary therapies, the better the prognosis is.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with vocal nodules in March of 2004. After speech therapy and vocal training, I was on the road to recovery, but in the last year I have been bothered with tightness in the back of my head, neck and throat. I am a singer and my life has be dramatically altered. I recently had a BRAVO test done to rule our acid reflux. There was very little acid found.
193609 tn?1292180293 A speech language pathologist (SLP) will have expertise in communicating with children beyond using words. The SLP can assist you in learning simple signs and other ways of communicating with your child. The SLP can also perform tests to learn about his receptive and expressive language functioning (even children who do not speak yet can be assessed to some degree with the correct instruments).
Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
193609 tn?1292180293 She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!

Avatar m tn Not clear if heavy metals show on the scans My diagnosis as we speak right now by my Earth Metals Specialist MD is that I have Aphasia due to heavy metal poisoning, that’s what my medical form says. With That MD I’m doing kelation therapy there; however this is almost two years after the accident.
Avatar f tn I met many parents at the clinic who took their children to see an SLP (speech language pathologist) because the child was confused after being only exposed to 2 languages. It's certainly something to think about.
Avatar n tn I have a 22 month old speech delayed son. After looking up possibilities of why he might not be speaking (much) I noticed one cause was autism. I have previous experience with working with adults with autism, Aspergers, etc., but am unsure how autism and autism spectrum disorders usually present themselves in toddlers. Here's a brief summary of my son: My son stays at home with me. My husband works from home as well so there is always one of us attending to all his needs.
Avatar f tn I am wondering if you could get an evaluation with a speech-language pathologist? A good SLP can perform cognitive function tests and the fact that you are having word-finding difficulties sounds like a job for an SLP. I've had several MRIs of the brain for what seems to be (after 3 yrs of wondering) Lyme disease, so I do notice when people speak of lesions on their MRI.
Avatar m tn They can either tell you all is well or help you improve your speech thru therapy. Killing oneself is pretty extreme. There are those out there with much worse conditions that persevere daily and are glad they are able to do that. Perhaps you are over thinking all of this and need to take a deep breathe and look at it from another angle. I hope you can find some peace in this.
Avatar f tn Have you seen a behavioral pediatrician for a diagnosis? Since autism is diagnosed on a spectrum it is possible to have different symptoms. Your son sounds so much like my daughter. She is 5 and can't talk very well either. She sees both a speech therapist and OT. We've started joint therapy sessions with both the SLP and OT at once. Maybe that would help him too? Then she sees the OT once more during the week. I really believe that not every therapist is right for every kid.
Avatar f tn In the long term, definitely working with an OT on a sensory program would be the way to go. You said he has speech/language delays . . . is he seeing an SLP for this? Sometimes the SLP may be able to help with this a little as well, so you might mention it there too.
1493284 tn?1294875712 It saves a lot of pain! Also they sell thickeners for liquid. It took a long time before the speech pathologist could talk me into trying it. I am here to tell you, it doesn't change the taste of liquids one bit.

1530342 tn?1405016490 Before last night’s presidential speech on jobs and the economy, we asked what kind of Obama we’d see. Inspirational Obama? Conciliatory Obama? Fiery Obama? The answer was behind Door No. 3 -- Fiery Obama. He had a message to Congress, and he repeated it 17 times to make sure no one missed it: “Pass this bill.
Avatar f tn Btw, getting a birth to three person can help with speech. He should qualify for speech therapy which does not mean he has autism.
Avatar n tn Hi, Brain injured patients may receive rehabilitation that involves individually tailored treatment programs in the areas of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language therapy, physiatry, psychology, and social support. A complete physical and neurological examination is needed in each treatment program. It would be best to discuss which treatment option is best for you with your doctor for proper evaluation and management. Take care and keep us posted.
