They may know or have suspicions of a problem, but may not be allowed to bring it up. Yes U should look into speech therapy, but therapy in general...make sure his hearing is ok......there r forms of autisum that can case speech delays...look up aspbergers (sp?).......I hope ur son responds to whichever therapy u choose.

They can either tell you all is well or help you improve your speech thru therapy. Killing oneself is pretty extreme. There are those out there with much worse conditions that persevere daily and are glad they are able to do that. Perhaps you are over thinking all of this and need to take a deep breathe and look at it from another angle. I hope you can find some peace in this.

Have you seen a behavioral pediatrician for a diagnosis? Since autism is diagnosed on a spectrum it is possible to have different symptoms. Your son sounds so much like my daughter. She is 5 and can't talk very well either. She sees both a speech therapist and OT. We've started joint therapy sessions with both the SLP and OT at once. Maybe that would help him too? Then she sees the OT once more during the week. I really believe that not every therapist is right for every kid.

In the long term, definitely working with an OT on a sensory program would be the way to go. You said he has speech/language delays . . . is he seeing an SLP for this? Sometimes the SLP may be able to help with this a little as well, so you might mention it there too.

It saves a lot of pain! Also they sell thickeners for liquid. It took a long time before the speech pathologist could talk me into trying it. I am here to tell you, it doesn't change the taste of liquids one bit.
