193609 tn?1292180293 She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!

Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
Avatar f tn Talk to your doctor about possible therapies for your son.
Avatar f tn He should be receiving free speech therapy. I would definitely have him tested. Some of his behaviors reminds me of autism. I am just a mom. I hold no degress in this area. But, I would not enroll him in school at five but I would for sure demand the testing be done. Call your state board of education. You may have to put the request in writing. They then have 30 days to respond.

Avatar n tn I would absolutely recommend seeking appropriate special education and speech therapy services for your child. The evidence is very clear that children diagnosed with autism can make substantial progress when they receive appropriate and intensive intervention at a young age. I strongly recommend that you avoid using medication to treat behavioral difficulties, especially with a child as young as yours.
Avatar m tn There is no effective treatment for total cure of stammering, though speech therapy techniques précised may provide some relief to the stammerer. However, here is a sincere attempt to solve the mystery of stammering and also to find a cure to be tried by the stammerer himself or herself without interference from others.
Avatar f tn My son is 5 and has been in speech therapy since the age of 3. He has been diagniosed as adhd, bipolar, and devlopment delay disorder. He has never had really good speech, but lately it has gotten to the point that 95% of the time no one (including myself) can understand him. when he is angry or up set, the only way that he communicates is through physical aggression. He will not play with other children, but clear away from them.
Avatar n tn The doctor promoted speech therapy and said there was nothing to worry about. I also took him to a child neurologist for an exam. The neurologist also did not seem to think anything was wrong. He also mentioned speech therapy and time. However the school district evaluated my son with specialists and said that he was possibly autistic. I don't know what to think. I know my son have some problems and is slow but I'm not comfortable with Autism.
Avatar n tn He plays fine with his brother but only really with one toy his wreslters and he loves to play the computer (which he plays only for at most 1/2 hour a day)maybe he is just slow at things. He is in speech therapy now but to be honest it isnt making one bit of difference.
Avatar f tn Let me start by saying, he is just fine & awesome on the counting! I have a degree in early childhood education/special education and children's speech really progresses at different rates. As long as he is using up to 3 word phrases and is 50% understandable by a stranger,he is doing well!
684299 tn?1227092903 I am a Speech Language Pathologist. Speech Therapists often perform Voice therapy to help reduce the chance of long term effects, and help build better voice habits in your day to day life. We are usually referred by ENT's and Pulmonologist. I suggest you see an ENT, and ask if Voice therapy is an option for you. If you are diagnosed with GERD/LPR, we can also perform education to reduce that as well. Hope all is well.
Avatar f tn I am concerned with becoming addicted and if using six pills a day is safe. Lately, my sister has noticed I have slurring of speech occasionally and use the wrong words in a sentence sometimes. Can hydrocodone use cause this? Thank you for any response.
Avatar f tn Hi, Thanks again for getting back to me. Your words are reassuring. We had a hearing test done with her yesterday to rule out that being a cause, but as i suspected, everything was just fine. The community paediatrician said he feels it is something that will come in time, but if things do not improve to go back and they will take things from there - whether that means speech therapy i don't know.
470168 tn?1237471245 I want to compare it with provision in the UK. In the UK provision is divided between Health and Education. Education do not have any Occupational Therapist Department as they say "it is not essential to learning". As any mother with an autistic child with sensory differences knows sensory stuff has a huge impact and does make it hard for them to access learning in a school environment.
Avatar n tn ve written, it sounds like your son would benefit from special education services, whether it be speech therapy and/or a class for children with special needs. I would focus on helping him right now, as opposed to: catching him up to his peer level/grade level. From what you have said so far, it sounds like you have been pursing this through the medical community, which is good, but is he receiving educational services at all? If so, what type of education is your son currently receiving?
Avatar n tn Good for u for continuing ur education. I've come to appreciate the medical professionals so much. The triple therapy is miraculous. Read on the forum here n you'll find a lot of inspirational stories of people who began tx during the trial phase n bedore. Welcome!
Avatar n tn When I went through rehab I did cognitive therapy, speech therapy, physio therapy (I ended up going to a registered physiotherapist), psychologist. After the rehab was done, they allow people to go 3 months only, I continued to see the psychologist. After that it has all been on me with no help except my friends and family.
