Avatar n tn does anyone have any experience with a good therapist in the new york city area (or connecticut or new jersey, or greater new york city) --a Licensed clinical social worker--preferably female, who does Cognitive Behavioral therapy, and is in private practice (and if possible not contracted with any insurance companies).
584252 tn?1218223686 Hi i took my daughter Melissa to see a speech and language therapist today and she said from the little test she did her speech is within normal parameters, but from what i have been saying she did say she wanted to test her at school to check her understanding. She did notice that Melissa went into her own world and that when i spoke to her i had to repeat myself quite a few times.
Avatar m tn I’m looking at the New York area as it’s closer to the UK in terms of flights as well as I know people who live in New York City which helps with accommodation. Does anyone know of any LLMDs who practice ILADS methods in the New York state / city region? It would be particularly useful if they are used to accommodating long distance patients in their treatments plans, consultations etc. Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.
551037 tn?1214962440 has the Speech and Language Therapist definately diagnosed a delay or a disorder. A good speech and language therapist should be able to give you an indication of whether they suspect your child is on the spectrum from the kind of speech problem they have. Semantic/Pragmatic Disorder is typical of being on the spectrum, is this what the speech therapist is referring to? You can read a good lengthy explanation of this at http:// www. hyperlexia. org/sp1.
Avatar n tn If he has semantic speech difficulties google Semantic Pragmatic Speech Disorder. But bear in mind that the loss of a diagnosis could mean he doesn't receive supports as an adult. This is only my opinion, but I want all professionals who come into contact with my son to know that he is on the autistic spectrum so that he is treated appropriately. My son is high functioning autistic and goes to a mainstream school.
499626 tn?1216030227 Now that she has the diagnosis she should be having contact with a Speech and Language Therapist and access to an Educational Psychologist and Autism Advisory Teacher. Although a diagnosis feels like the end outcome, infact it is only the beginning (sorry!), and the journey continues. She will need supports in place for her to access education whether she is at nursery or school. If she's at school they usually put the children on School Action and then School Action plus.
Avatar f tn XXXX will receive a minimum of 6 hours direct Speech and Language Therapy each term from a fully qualified and experienced Speech and Language Therapist, reviewed in line with the SEN Annual Review process. This equates to approximately twelve 30 minute sessions per term to be delivered weekly or as agreed with Yiannis’ parents and school staff in order to best meet Yiannis’ changing needs.
620048 tn?1358018235 00. I am not sure what she is going to do but I am sure I need it..What do speech therapists do anyway? With all of that, I still have a terrible headache but still happy...
Avatar m tn Speech disorder will be recovered easily , when they are constant efforts from both patient and Therapist. Normally Breathing exercises and Speech training by therapist will be helpful.
Avatar m tn t see how her insurance is questionable at all. Anyway...I need a recommendation for a GOOD Physical Therapist in New York. My mother is 61 years old and has knee pain. She has already had an MRI done of the area. Please supply me with the name here, or via PM. Thanks alot.
Avatar m tn This by the way, had to do with my doctor who thought that seeing as I have asthma I should learn how to breathe so I could talk. Unfortunately for the speech therapist, she was caught unawares and might possibly need some kind of therapy herself after having a couple of stints with me.
Avatar n tn He didnt babble much as a baby, and not very much as a toddler, so at 2 years old I took him to a speech therapist...........now he is 4 and a half and the speech therapist just noticed that at the back of his throat his uvula is doubled, and she felt the back the top of the roof of his mouth and told me he has Submoucus Cleft Palate. We since have seen a nose ear and throat specialist and he says that my son doesnt need surgery, and should out grow his nasily sound by puberty.
Avatar n tn She was assessed by early intervention (psychologist, speech therapist, and occupational therapist) and her pediatrician for autism and no one had any concerns. The speech therapist said she should be evaluated by a neuropsychologist. This is a very expensive assessment. Given the fact that she has been evaluated a couple of times do you think this is necessary? I am so frustrated, I have been trying to get her speech help for so long and have jumped through so many hoops.
543250 tn?1214743177 He should really be seen and assessed by a Speech and Language Therapist that has experience of autistic spectrum disorders and speech disorders. There is alot that can be done to teach children these skills, and although they never become automatic, they can learn phrases to say that can help them in social situations. For example my son is learning how to use learnt scripts to initiate play, join in, hold a conversation etc.
738090 tn?1250622476 I have been sent to a speech therapist after I started having hoarseness. I have emphysema, acid reflux and the signs of essential tremor. The internist, pulmonologist, gastroentrologist and Ent all could not determine the cause. The speech therapist says is is because the muscle around the vocal cord has been retrained by using the PLB method and I have to relearn to work the breathing and speech in concert.
Avatar n tn I live in Delhi, India and My pediatrician suggested me to consult speech therapist and I visited speech therapist also. He says she will talk in few months after attending few sessions, however, i dont see any change in my daughter after attending 5 sessions also. She imitates all the things but dont speak.......pls guide..
Avatar f tn My son has sensory integration disorder and the two things that were noticed first were his speech and tripping. He was three. He was evaluated by an occupational therapist and has been doing OT since being diagnosed with sensory. He is now 6 and doing really well. Just thought I'd throw sensory into the mix for you to check out and see what you think.
Avatar f tn If that is okay you need a referal to a Speech and Language Therapist who should assess his expressive and receptive language, auditory memory, working memory, and should look at the possibility of Central Auditory Processing Disorder. If he has regressed she should begin to teach you some symbols that you will work with with your son so that he can use the symbols to communicate. If the doctor doesn't think he has autism, I would personally want evidence of that ie.
Avatar f tn Yes, repeated infections can have an impact on hearing. Your son's development of speech/language is definitiely delayed, and this warants evaluation by a Speech/Language therapist. But an audiological evaluation is crucial, because it is possible that the delay in speech is secondary to hearing loss.
Avatar f tn Maybe you need to see a speech therapist for an eval and go from there.
