584252 tn?1218223686 Hi i took my daughter Melissa to see a speech and language therapist today and she said from the little test she did her speech is within normal parameters, but from what i have been saying she did say she wanted to test her at school to check her understanding. She did notice that Melissa went into her own world and that when i spoke to her i had to repeat myself quite a few times.
Avatar f tn It concerns me because her speech is minimal (we have a speech therapist on board now). Is this a normal coping mechanism? She also does this when dad plays video games, and when he turns it off, she'll open her eyes and uncovers her ears again. Once again is this normal?
Avatar f tn It takes about 30 minutes ancient a speech therapist Is present and they should give you some answers. Food gets stuck on my right side due to weakness and the ms I was told this is a neurological problem then misdiagnosed with ms 2 months later. I go to therapy and have LearNed techniques to help I turn myriad to the right and chin down it does help but not ideal in public .
Avatar n tn A lot of her language delays are quite possibly due to her sensory integration disorder issues, so without the occupational therapist working with her sensory issues on top of the speech therapist, we probably would not have seen as much progress as we have. I didn't realize sensory issues could affect language, but they can.
Avatar f tn m not the same as the therapist, but once a week, well, there are 6 other days that the speech therapist is not there, so getting homework assignments for me to do with my daughter, I find essential. And although she is not speaking so much right now, her receptive language (her understanding us) has dramatically improved, and she is communicating in other ways such as learning to point (that concept is really hard for her and it's been a struggle) and doing sign language.
620048 tn?1358018235 00. I am not sure what she is going to do but I am sure I need it..What do speech therapists do anyway? With all of that, I still have a terrible headache but still happy...
Avatar m tn Speech disorder will be recovered easily , when they are constant efforts from both patient and Therapist. Normally Breathing exercises and Speech training by therapist will be helpful.
Avatar n tn When he was very young, his mother contacted a speech therapist because he had trouble swallowing mashed potatoes. Mom has given Doug whatever he wanted to eat for all of his life. Unfortunately that has consisted of McDonald's Chicken McNuggets, chips, and cookies. Doug is a pale boy and so skinny I am afraid to hug him too tightly in fear of breaking a bone! The doctors say he is fine, but he takes no vitamins and eats only the above.
408443 tn?1202069828 Hang in there, mom. It will get better. But you have to get your daughter therapy. Don't let the doctors give you the run around. Sounds like your daughter needs more than speech therapy. If she's got sensory issues (not liking to be touched and not liking tooth brushing, etc), she needs an occupational therapist to address those sensory issues and introduce sensory integration therapy. Dont' wait until she's 3.
Avatar m tn This by the way, had to do with my doctor who thought that seeing as I have asthma I should learn how to breathe so I could talk. Unfortunately for the speech therapist, she was caught unawares and might possibly need some kind of therapy herself after having a couple of stints with me.
Avatar n tn He didnt babble much as a baby, and not very much as a toddler, so at 2 years old I took him to a speech therapist...........now he is 4 and a half and the speech therapist just noticed that at the back of his throat his uvula is doubled, and she felt the back the top of the roof of his mouth and told me he has Submoucus Cleft Palate. We since have seen a nose ear and throat specialist and he says that my son doesnt need surgery, and should out grow his nasily sound by puberty.
Avatar n tn She was assessed by early intervention (psychologist, speech therapist, and occupational therapist) and her pediatrician for autism and no one had any concerns. The speech therapist said she should be evaluated by a neuropsychologist. This is a very expensive assessment. Given the fact that she has been evaluated a couple of times do you think this is necessary? I am so frustrated, I have been trying to get her speech help for so long and have jumped through so many hoops.
Avatar f tn Is he aware that he does the slurred speech and cant hardly walk? if not video him and show him. Also, I like to watch TV and play on my phone to wind down , I too have anxiety. something is not making him happy. maybe he doesn't like his job. maybe his life is too routined. how about trying something out of the ordinary. or.... say no TV or phone for 1 week straight and go to bed together. thus, developing a new routine. sip chamomile tea together.
Avatar n tn She diagnosed me with VCD and suggested I see a speech therapist. She said it will likely go away on its own. Others she has seen with the same problem - there symptoms went away within a year. I then began to see a speech therapist in March 2011. She had me doing breathing exercises for two months. This gave me something to do and kept me from getting anxious about not being able to breathe (which makes it worse) but it did not help.
Avatar f tn I wonder if any members from here were there. (May 10 '13) I'll post a YouTube video of Pam Weintraub's speech (Cure Unknown) but the person taking it admits its a very shaky video because of combo of zoom and shaking hands. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zOU1HTfUXc&feature=youtu.be I had some problems with viewing the entire video but that could just be me.
738090 tn?1250622476 I have been sent to a speech therapist after I started having hoarseness. I have emphysema, acid reflux and the signs of essential tremor. The internist, pulmonologist, gastroentrologist and Ent all could not determine the cause. The speech therapist says is is because the muscle around the vocal cord has been retrained by using the PLB method and I have to relearn to work the breathing and speech in concert.
Avatar f tn Even a video of it happening would be good so the doc can see for him/herself. A speech therapist with training in dysphagia would be able to help you determine if it is texture, taste, or behavior that is causing the problem, and would be able to make some recommendations for treatment.
703579 tn?1228694819 The first professional to go in is usually the Speech and Language Therapist. Alot of the difficulties you have mentioned could be down to communication and speech disorders. It is totally unacceptable that the teacher refused to work with you on your son's difficulties. She is being more 'autistic' then your son!!!
Avatar n tn I live in Delhi, India and My pediatrician suggested me to consult speech therapist and I visited speech therapist also. He says she will talk in few months after attending few sessions, however, i dont see any change in my daughter after attending 5 sessions also. She imitates all the things but dont speak.......pls guide..
Avatar f tn My son has sensory integration disorder and the two things that were noticed first were his speech and tripping. He was three. He was evaluated by an occupational therapist and has been doing OT since being diagnosed with sensory. He is now 6 and doing really well. Just thought I'd throw sensory into the mix for you to check out and see what you think.
Avatar f tn Yes, repeated infections can have an impact on hearing. Your son's development of speech/language is definitiely delayed, and this warants evaluation by a Speech/Language therapist. But an audiological evaluation is crucial, because it is possible that the delay in speech is secondary to hearing loss.
Avatar n tn My daughter didn't start progressing with her speech until she had an occupational therapist who did sensory integration therapy. Language processing can be a sensory issue. You could ask (or have your son/daughter ask) the speech therapist about an OT or just even if he/she knows someone who does sensory integration therapy. Techniques where we saw immediate improvement were using a brushing technique and a joint compression. My daughter dragged us around by the hand all the time.
Avatar f tn Maybe you need to see a speech therapist for an eval and go from there.
Avatar n tn I have not heard about Neuroaid until now (especially that it is not approved, yet). I googled this, and what I saw was that it is some kind of newly developed drug that is produced in China. Although there is some research being run now to test the effectiveness of this drug, I found an article about this drug (see the link). Based on the literature, this drug is being used in China in patient with brain injuries such as stroke 48 hours following a stroke.
427258 tn?1266445242 Sorry this is OT, but I wanted to let every one know who has been following/wondering how my son's evaluations were going that today he met with yet ANOTHER occupational, speech and behavioral therapist(s). After those he then met with PA's top Pediatric Neurologist and she determined that Nathan does in fact have Asperger's Syndrome as well as OCD. His intellect and speech were way beyond his age.
