Avatar f tn Why do healthcare proffesionals have to test a year after exposure for insurance purposes?
193609 tn?1292180293 My son is part of Early ON of Michigan and has other therapists through the ISD, and is waiting on an eval from a speech therapist there. Anyways, the speech therapist at the ISD told me that she will do the eval but he probably will not qualift because of his age. She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy.
Avatar f tn I would make an appointment for an evaluation with a Speech Therapist just so you can put you fears to rest. Most insurance will cover an eval. I do know the younger a child is when the receive speech therapy, the easier it is to correct. Has she been nervous about anything? Has she had any accidents lately?
Avatar n tn I have not heard about Neuroaid until now (especially that it is not approved, yet). I googled this, and what I saw was that it is some kind of newly developed drug that is produced in China. Although there is some research being run now to test the effectiveness of this drug, I found an article about this drug (see the link). Based on the literature, this drug is being used in China in patient with brain injuries such as stroke 48 hours following a stroke.
Avatar m tn Why are YOU trying to teach him? Get him to the speech therapist now while he's still young!!! Your insurance will cover it. Also go to the regional center, they will provide free speech therapy between 0-3 years (if you don't know how to contact go ask the public school). At 3 years the public school will take over. DO NOT WAIT!!!!!
Avatar n tn does anyone have any experience with a good therapist in the new york city area (or connecticut or new jersey, or greater new york city) --a Licensed clinical social worker--preferably female, who does Cognitive Behavioral therapy, and is in private practice (and if possible not contracted with any insurance companies).
584252 tn?1218223686 Hi i took my daughter Melissa to see a speech and language therapist today and she said from the little test she did her speech is within normal parameters, but from what i have been saying she did say she wanted to test her at school to check her understanding. She did notice that Melissa went into her own world and that when i spoke to her i had to repeat myself quite a few times.
Avatar f tn If he was quiet, he may have not built up the muscles that he needs to talk. A speech therapist from the school district can help. It would be a good idea to also have him tested if the doctor is suggesting it. If you feel uncomfortable with that, arrange for the speech therapist to work with him to see if there is any improvement.
620048 tn?1358018235 00. I am not sure what she is going to do but I am sure I need it..What do speech therapists do anyway? With all of that, I still have a terrible headache but still happy...
Avatar f tn m not the same as the therapist, but once a week, well, there are 6 other days that the speech therapist is not there, so getting homework assignments for me to do with my daughter, I find essential. And although she is not speaking so much right now, her receptive language (her understanding us) has dramatically improved, and she is communicating in other ways such as learning to point (that concept is really hard for her and it's been a struggle) and doing sign language.
Avatar n tn It was hard to get him approved because the insurance company criteria said he had to be speech delayed or have loss of speech. I guess I was hoping it wouldn't be necessary for him to be seen based on that. Obviously that was just wishful thinking.
Avatar m tn Hello Dear, Speech and language therapy is the mainstay of care for you.You should consult a speech and language therapist and neuropsychologist to asess the cause of difficult comprehension as it is difficult to point out whether your problem is due to the trauma or something else. Refer http://www.emedicine.com/neuro/TOPIC437.
Avatar m tn Speech disorder will be recovered easily , when they are constant efforts from both patient and Therapist. Normally Breathing exercises and Speech training by therapist will be helpful.
Avatar f tn I would look into the "epilepsy foundation"
Avatar n tn sounds like your daughter would benefit from speech therapy definitely and also possibly from a therapist who can address your questions of social communication (her ability to communicate with others, even nonverbally). Also getting referred to a developmental pediatrician is a benefit.
Avatar m tn This by the way, had to do with my doctor who thought that seeing as I have asthma I should learn how to breathe so I could talk. Unfortunately for the speech therapist, she was caught unawares and might possibly need some kind of therapy herself after having a couple of stints with me.
Avatar f tn i am very frustrated and worried at this point. she is receiving speech therapies at school for about 10months now. I don't see progress i need help with her pls respond.
Avatar n tn He didnt babble much as a baby, and not very much as a toddler, so at 2 years old I took him to a speech therapist...........now he is 4 and a half and the speech therapist just noticed that at the back of his throat his uvula is doubled, and she felt the back the top of the roof of his mouth and told me he has Submoucus Cleft Palate. We since have seen a nose ear and throat specialist and he says that my son doesnt need surgery, and should out grow his nasily sound by puberty.
Avatar n tn She was assessed by early intervention (psychologist, speech therapist, and occupational therapist) and her pediatrician for autism and no one had any concerns. The speech therapist said she should be evaluated by a neuropsychologist. This is a very expensive assessment. Given the fact that she has been evaluated a couple of times do you think this is necessary? I am so frustrated, I have been trying to get her speech help for so long and have jumped through so many hoops.
Avatar m tn Are you able to see a speech therapist for your dysarthria? A physical therapist and/or occupational therapist for your muscle problems? I will be wishing you the best. Please come back and ask more questions as you get started with Copaxone. It's quite a process. I had my injection training nurse out to my house three times in the first 6 months, and she was very helpful.
168006 tn?1241012961 He is extremely social, communicative, and loving. His speech skills are far behind what they should be. He sees a speech therapist as well as an occupational therapist twice a week and that has really helped him. He does not take any meds (even if they tried I would not let him take them). My suggestion would be to get your son examined by a child psychologist- try and get a diagnosis. The main issue you may have is that it seems that your son once had skills and has now regressed.
738090 tn?1250622476 I have been sent to a speech therapist after I started having hoarseness. I have emphysema, acid reflux and the signs of essential tremor. The internist, pulmonologist, gastroentrologist and Ent all could not determine the cause. The speech therapist says is is because the muscle around the vocal cord has been retrained by using the PLB method and I have to relearn to work the breathing and speech in concert.
Avatar m tn Malpractice Litigation, Defensive Medicine Cost Less Than Thought Robert Lowes September 7, 2010 — Many physicians and conservative politicians contend that to curb the rising cost of healthcare, the United States needs bold medical liability reform as opposed to the healthcare reform enacted by Congress this year. Discourage frivolous suits, eliminate jackpot judgments, and defensive medicine and all its expensive overtesting and overtreating will wane, they say.
Avatar f tn More information is needed. A seemingly unrelated issue, such as digestive disorders, can cause this to happen. So, reflux (GERD) or constipation either one can make you feel like you can't quite catch your breath. If you're bloated, you will also notice that it's difficult to catch your breath. I also learned that I have something called Vocal Cord Dysfunction, which can also cause this issue. It feels much like what you're describing, but it's not actually asthma.
