688450 tn?1259468734 I just have to get him the best speech therapist and the best supplements around to help him beat this delay. Thanks for your comment.
Avatar f tn I would expect he already has a physio therapist, speech therapist etc and school related accommodations already in place but if there is concern in regards to changing of schools it is always recommended discussing the situation with the intended schools disability support coordinator prior to the exchange. I hope that helps......
Avatar n tn She was assessed by early intervention (psychologist, speech therapist, and occupational therapist) and her pediatrician for autism and no one had any concerns. The speech therapist said she should be evaluated by a neuropsychologist. This is a very expensive assessment. Given the fact that she has been evaluated a couple of times do you think this is necessary? I am so frustrated, I have been trying to get her speech help for so long and have jumped through so many hoops.
Avatar f tn i am very frustrated and worried at this point. she is receiving speech therapies at school for about 10months now. I don't see progress i need help with her pls respond.
Avatar m tn How to train ( or educate) a mildly mentally retarded child having markedly delayed speech . He is 4 yr old but V.M S is that of a 2 yr & 6 months' child. Can speak only two simple words together . He does not mix with other children in preschool( where he goes for last one month) may be because unable to speak much { he siarted speaking at age of 3 yrs} ;Does he need a special tutor ? Or parents should be encoureged to get involved in interacting and stimulating his skills and speech.
Avatar m tn Some schools have grants to work with professionals such as a speech therapist or occupational therapist. If you live in the US, there is also the early intervention programs provided for kids by law to look into. Your son is 3 and older, so he'd fall into the public school system's early interveniton program. It is an intervention preschool and they work with kids on various issues. I can't say enough about addressing the concerns parents have early.
Avatar m tn and in my case started before I had any meds on board so was definitely a symptom of my depression, worse under stress or when sleep deprived and then definitely not helped by using a benzodiazepine/anti anxiety (such as your xanax) Have you been offered the chance to see a counsellor or therapist..often schools and colleges have one available to students...it may be that feelings are confused in your head making thought processes slow down ...
584252 tn?1218223686 Hi i took my daughter Melissa to see a speech and language therapist today and she said from the little test she did her speech is within normal parameters, but from what i have been saying she did say she wanted to test her at school to check her understanding. She did notice that Melissa went into her own world and that when i spoke to her i had to repeat myself quite a few times.
168006 tn?1241012961 He is extremely social, communicative, and loving. His speech skills are far behind what they should be. He sees a speech therapist as well as an occupational therapist twice a week and that has really helped him. He does not take any meds (even if they tried I would not let him take them). My suggestion would be to get your son examined by a child psychologist- try and get a diagnosis. The main issue you may have is that it seems that your son once had skills and has now regressed.
Avatar f tn d want someone to rule out the possibilities. Speech therapy can help in more ways think you would think, and would be of no cost if he is in public schools.
709940 tn?1231900307 This means that your son should receive 20 hours of direct teaching in language, social skills and self-help skills. Services can be provided by early intervention or the public schools in your area. You may want to look for behaviorally trained professionals to supervise a treatment program by checking www.bacb.com for a person in your area.
1174407 tn?1263573399 He can have any thought he wants but he has to put some in a thought bubble---- he can think it but not say it. Kill you is most likely a figure of speech but not a good one. Schools take that seriously. I had my just turned 6 year old kindergartener come home and tell me that the kid behind him on the bus said he was going to kill him but that the kid next to that kid said to not to because he kind of liked my son. Huh?
620048 tn?1358018235 00. I am not sure what she is going to do but I am sure I need it..What do speech therapists do anyway? With all of that, I still have a terrible headache but still happy...
Avatar n tn He turned 2 in October. Since then, we have him in speech 3x week (1 hr session). Occupational therapy 1x week, and Applied Behavioral Analysis 15 hours a week. He is on the GFCF diet, takes supplements, vit b12 injections etc.. We have run labs on him as well. Currently, he still runs in circles flapping his hands, climbs constantly on our table and chairs, has to close one door in house, turn on a certain light and does other non-typical behaviors. Do these kids improve?
Avatar m tn It may also include psychological training and counselling for boosting self-esteem and reducing the fear and tendency of avoiding situations such as speaking in front of a group. Please consult another speech therapist because many people do take help in teen age and benefit from it. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
667445 tn?1230750538 It might be because of increment in age but I do put it in the portfolio of speech therapy. My son is now more reactive to various situations respectively, like he now enjoys nursery rhymes/cartoons more (showing some reactions) which he was initially just interested in watching. His willingness to speak is now much more but still, no sensible words as yet. Doctor reveal my son's progress to be slow and it might take 6 months or more to get the things channelized.
Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
Avatar f tn I have a speech problem and what didn’t help me was everybody reinforcing that I had the problem. That only willed the stronghold and made me believe it more. She’s still young tell her she can speak and when people speak they don’t think about what they are going to say they just speak. And just let her do it if she stutters or anything just wait for her to finish speaking. She’ll get it down and it would help to find out why she turned out that way. My dad made me stutter.
Avatar n tn The first professional to go in is usually the speech and language therapist. She needs to assess your daughters receptive and expressive speech abilities as well as assessing her for semantic pragmatic speech disorder. Does your daughter/son have any sensory difficulties? Are they over or under sensitive to sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste/texture, balance and co-ordination?
Avatar n tn Sometimes the school might offer a therapist to go to the daycare center you would have him enrolled at and do services there, so you would not need to be present. It really depends on what state and what city you are in. What the public schools offer for pre-kindergarten varies so much between states. Definitely worth a look into.
Avatar f tn I dont know if this is because of his speech or laziness. In social situations, he plunges ahead, not even really thinking about what to say or do. If he feels he is not getting attention he will act up. He is very sensitive to loud noises. He doesnt even like it when I run the vacume cleaner. He also fidgets a lot. I suspect he does have a learning problem besides speech. I have to wait untill hes 6, then the school will test him. I suspect adhd.
Avatar n tn He didnt babble much as a baby, and not very much as a toddler, so at 2 years old I took him to a speech therapist...........now he is 4 and a half and the speech therapist just noticed that at the back of his throat his uvula is doubled, and she felt the back the top of the roof of his mouth and told me he has Submoucus Cleft Palate. We since have seen a nose ear and throat specialist and he says that my son doesnt need surgery, and should out grow his nasily sound by puberty.
Avatar n tn I think you do have a cause for concern. Children with autism show impairments in speech and language skills, impairments in social skills and odd or restricted behavior and interests. Who did you schedule an appointment with, a doctor? Your best bet would be to contact your local school district and request an evaluation to see if your child is eligible for special education services. In PA, the district has 60 days to complete the evaluation. I believe the federal law is 90 days.
Avatar f tn He is bright, but he has an I.E.P. in place for speech services. He recently began punching himself in the head and pinching his face when he feels he is in trouble, as well as calling himself stupid or an idiot. Four days ago he began to cry and painfully pinch his forehead because he got an answer wrong at school. That same day he began to punch himself in the head because he thought he was in trouble for scribbling on another student's paper.
738090 tn?1250622476 I have been sent to a speech therapist after I started having hoarseness. I have emphysema, acid reflux and the signs of essential tremor. The internist, pulmonologist, gastroentrologist and Ent all could not determine the cause. The speech therapist says is is because the muscle around the vocal cord has been retrained by using the PLB method and I have to relearn to work the breathing and speech in concert.
