Avatar f tn t worry just yet. Just keep repeating words and she will catch on. Try drawing a picture on flash cards with the word so she doesn't give u that "im being punished? " look...
720228 tn?1530911279 A team of professionals did, a neurologist, a psycologist, a ot and a speech therapist. and then someone had the nerve to say that she is not autistic her problem is that she is not stimulated enough. What?! She said that we work so much we don't have enough time or are to tired for her. AHHH! All i do when I am home is work and play with my kids. I don't even clean anything untli they go to bed. I am so angry! Really these people are supposed to be family.
Avatar m tn Kids on the spectrum tend to work very well with schedules. We've used a lot of PECS schedules (pictures cards). We also work on the idea of "first...then." An occupational therapist could help more with his aggression and sensory issues (ie dealing with different textures of clothing) than the speech therapist. Both are very important. Let us know if you get a diagnosis.
Avatar f tn I read to him every night before bed and sit there and try to teach him his alphabet and numbers with flash cards. But he does not comprehend any of it that I try to teach him. Should I take him to a therapist? Should I be worried? He is also a very lonely child. He loves to play by himself, though he has 4 brothers. Is this also something to worry about?
Avatar n tn t speaking right and I was told that sometimes when they are trying to master one thing such as walking or potty training or crawling or whatever it is, other things will be put on hold because they are too busy concentrating on one thing. Have you had her assessed through your pediatrician? Or a speech therapist? Have you had her hearing tested? Has she ever had chronic ear, nose or throat infections. If she has, these things can play a role in delaying speech.
584252 tn?1218223686 Hi i took my daughter Melissa to see a speech and language therapist today and she said from the little test she did her speech is within normal parameters, but from what i have been saying she did say she wanted to test her at school to check her understanding. She did notice that Melissa went into her own world and that when i spoke to her i had to repeat myself quite a few times.
620048 tn?1358018235 00. I am not sure what she is going to do but I am sure I need it..What do speech therapists do anyway? With all of that, I still have a terrible headache but still happy...
Avatar f tn and everything is fine. Others have a few things going on. My son had a speech evaluation at three years old. we learned that he was fine in responsive language, expressive language but had some articulation issues. This is due to motor planning as my son was diagnosed at 4 with sensory integration disorder. I would schedule a speech evaluation for him. Your pediatrician would probably have recommended that as they look for kids who struggle with speech.
Avatar f tn Have you seen a behavioral pediatrician for a diagnosis? Since autism is diagnosed on a spectrum it is possible to have different symptoms. Your son sounds so much like my daughter. She is 5 and can't talk very well either. She sees both a speech therapist and OT. We've started joint therapy sessions with both the SLP and OT at once. Maybe that would help him too? Then she sees the OT once more during the week. I really believe that not every therapist is right for every kid.
Avatar m tn Speech disorder will be recovered easily , when they are constant efforts from both patient and Therapist. Normally Breathing exercises and Speech training by therapist will be helpful.
Avatar n tn t aware of your business and we all know how that can be! I use to always keep my unit out of my business because I knew there intentions weren't of mines! Get with a Chaplain (preferably a COL someone higher up). You would be surprised how much pull and clout they have. I used to get days off because of personal problems and my Chaplain made it happen for me without any explaination to my unit...PERIOD! I hope this helps you!...and I wish you luck!
Avatar m tn This by the way, had to do with my doctor who thought that seeing as I have asthma I should learn how to breathe so I could talk. Unfortunately for the speech therapist, she was caught unawares and might possibly need some kind of therapy herself after having a couple of stints with me.
Avatar n tn He didnt babble much as a baby, and not very much as a toddler, so at 2 years old I took him to a speech therapist...........now he is 4 and a half and the speech therapist just noticed that at the back of his throat his uvula is doubled, and she felt the back the top of the roof of his mouth and told me he has Submoucus Cleft Palate. We since have seen a nose ear and throat specialist and he says that my son doesnt need surgery, and should out grow his nasily sound by puberty.
Avatar n tn She was assessed by early intervention (psychologist, speech therapist, and occupational therapist) and her pediatrician for autism and no one had any concerns. The speech therapist said she should be evaluated by a neuropsychologist. This is a very expensive assessment. Given the fact that she has been evaluated a couple of times do you think this is necessary? I am so frustrated, I have been trying to get her speech help for so long and have jumped through so many hoops.
Avatar f tn A couple months ago his pediatrician had a speech therapist come to evaluate him, and I was absolutely floored to hear that he passed. Apparently he knew about 1/3 of the flash cards that the speech therapist showed him. This makes me believe that he actually knows more words than we think, but he just won’t say them. Regardless of how hard me or his mother try, we cannot get him to say any other words! I’m not doubting the speech therapist, but I’m still quite concerned about his speech.
Avatar n tn My daughter is three and a half years old and she barely talks. She'll say "juice" "thanks" and a bunch of other things and has a few phrases like "what happened?", but she isn't talking in sentences. I've tried many things like flash cards (she blazes right through them) and making her repeat one word at a time to make a complete sentence and basically encouraging her to talk as much as possible.
738090 tn?1250622476 I have been sent to a speech therapist after I started having hoarseness. I have emphysema, acid reflux and the signs of essential tremor. The internist, pulmonologist, gastroentrologist and Ent all could not determine the cause. The speech therapist says is is because the muscle around the vocal cord has been retrained by using the PLB method and I have to relearn to work the breathing and speech in concert.
Avatar n tn I live in Delhi, India and My pediatrician suggested me to consult speech therapist and I visited speech therapist also. He says she will talk in few months after attending few sessions, however, i dont see any change in my daughter after attending 5 sessions also. She imitates all the things but dont speak.......pls guide..
Avatar f tn My son has sensory integration disorder and the two things that were noticed first were his speech and tripping. He was three. He was evaluated by an occupational therapist and has been doing OT since being diagnosed with sensory. He is now 6 and doing really well. Just thought I'd throw sensory into the mix for you to check out and see what you think.
Avatar f tn Yes, repeated infections can have an impact on hearing. Your son's development of speech/language is definitiely delayed, and this warants evaluation by a Speech/Language therapist. But an audiological evaluation is crucial, because it is possible that the delay in speech is secondary to hearing loss.
Avatar f tn Maybe you need to see a speech therapist for an eval and go from there.
Avatar n tn I have not heard about Neuroaid until now (especially that it is not approved, yet). I googled this, and what I saw was that it is some kind of newly developed drug that is produced in China. Although there is some research being run now to test the effectiveness of this drug, I found an article about this drug (see the link). Based on the literature, this drug is being used in China in patient with brain injuries such as stroke 48 hours following a stroke.
Avatar f tn m not the same as the therapist, but once a week, well, there are 6 other days that the speech therapist is not there, so getting homework assignments for me to do with my daughter, I find essential. And although she is not speaking so much right now, her receptive language (her understanding us) has dramatically improved, and she is communicating in other ways such as learning to point (that concept is really hard for her and it's been a struggle) and doing sign language.
193609 tn?1292180293 My son is part of Early ON of Michigan and has other therapists through the ISD, and is waiting on an eval from a speech therapist there. Anyways, the speech therapist at the ISD told me that she will do the eval but he probably will not qualift because of his age. She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy.
