476834 tn?1228398709 I don't know anything about dyslexia, but your symptoms certainly could be an MS thing. I've been known to use the wrong words, use words in the wrong order, slur, etc. Along the same lines, in the exacerbation that led to my diagnois, I would be typing along as I took notes of phone conversations and it was like I was in beginning typing again, going slow and repeatedly having to back up to redo letters and words. It's frustrating, but somehow we muddle through it!
Avatar n tn I would definately address this with your pediatrician and work on some referrels to a hearing specialist to make sure she is hearing and a speech pathologist to evaluate speech. They start speech therapy as early as tiny infants. Sounds crazy because they aren't suppose to be talking yet but speech is much more than just saying words. The mouth muscles for example must be strong. Feeding issues with infants are often handled by speech pathologists.
Avatar f tn recently I am using nonsense words in sentences a lot. Ex. Get that doorknob on your sister (seatbelt). Get in your chocolate and eat your spoon. Most of the time I realize I've made a mistake but not always. I have also had a lot of trouble with number and letter reversals, short term memory and concentration. I also have neuralgia symptoms. bloodwork, emg, ncs, brain mri normal except enlarged pituitary. I teach and am really struggling with this. this has all come on quickly.
Avatar m tn Problems with speech can include just trying to get the words out, pronouncing the words, the tonal quality of our speech, using emphasis and inflection. Problems with speech can be from weakness or spasticity of the muscles of our mouths, throats and vocal cords. Or it can be with the way our brain tries to direct the speech. There is a particular type of speech that is characteristic of MS and is called "scanning speech." You probably have all heard it at some time.
Avatar m tn Motor planning has a huge impact on these speech componants. If something big or small is out of sync, a child can have the issues you mention. Sensory integration disorder is one of the reasons that a child would have motor planning issues and difficulty understanding. Please google 'sensory processing disorder' (SPD is a great web site) and see what you think.
Avatar f tn I'll make sure to video tape MY "flare ups" or whenever my beautiful speech problems come back (hopefully not anytime soon!). I'll upload the video to YouTube and make sure to post the link. It will probably include my fat cats acting as waiters and my mom crying as the ultra dramatic Yiddishe Mame she is, claiming i'm drinking/mixing meds/"xanaxing" my way to death.
Avatar n tn She is sweet and loving but I am very worried that something is wrong. She has no words not even mama. She makes good eye contact, plays well, babbles a lot, gives me lots of hugs and kisses. She isnt as out going with my parents or other people for that matter. I am a stay at mom so I dont know if that has anything to do with it? She seems bright to me.. so I just dont understand why she wont speak real words. We are going to have her tested, but they said it could take months to get her in.
408443 tn?1202069828 Hang in there, mom. It will get better. But you have to get your daughter therapy. Don't let the doctors give you the run around. Sounds like your daughter needs more than speech therapy. If she's got sensory issues (not liking to be touched and not liking tooth brushing, etc), she needs an occupational therapist to address those sensory issues and introduce sensory integration therapy. Dont' wait until she's 3.
738075 tn?1330575844 I'm sitting here listening to about 5 artists who's work I really admire, trying to get some inspiration. I haven't written anything in two years. I haven't played my guitar in two weeks. Nothing is coming to my mind. Truth is, for about the last year, or so I've felt blunted, like any creative tendency I may have has died. It goes beyond that, though.
Avatar f tn any more because of the difficulty i have getting the words out, i find it better to use the words that are easier for me to speak, the less syllables the easier it is to say so my word bank has been vastly reduced. I basically can get stuck anywhere within a word, it depends on the shape the mouth needs to make to create the sound.
Avatar f tn I'm a 32 yr old female and as far as I know completely healthy. The past few months I've been having issues talking, in my head I know exactly what I want to say but then I say it and it all screwed up. For example words will be mixed up, instead of saying "My hat is in the car." I'll say "My car is in the hat."....thats just an example but this seems to be happening more and more and I'm wondering maybe something could be wrong. Any info will be appreciated.
Avatar f tn I think that you need to go to the ER ASAP to find out why you are having speech problems all the sudden. This is NOT normal and is not related to your period problems. The headaches probably are because your hormones are out of balance and it can cause headaches. Is your family doctor treating you for your period issues or a gynecologist? You really need to see a gynecologist as this is their specialty. It sounds like you may have a condition called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS).
572651 tn?1530999357 Hey, Lulu - We need a Health Page on speech problems! Some of the speech problems are really because of simple cognitive impairment - word finding and word replacement problems go in this box, I think. Your gibberish, however, is something else. Your brain is mixing up the syllables and trying to spit them out in the wrong order. It's like dyslexia, except of speech instead of written language.
Avatar f tn t hurt to have her checked out by a speech teacher or even check out some Apraxia websites. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I find myself carrying lists of things I want to say so if I get stuck I can take a pause while I look at the list and also get the right word. Also if I do come out with the wrong thing or can't find the word I say so. Fortunately my Czech looks (my family have been in the UK 100 years, but we all still look Slavic) are a bonus here, maybe the other person thinks English is my second language. And I'm blonde, expectations are generally lower for blondes...
Avatar m tn like i slur my words and the words i want to say come out wrong like exapmle instead of saying like TILA,.. ill say TALILA or something.. i also been getting headaches like migraines. im usually sleepy like 1/2 of the day as well. I dont have health insurance so i really need some feedback on here please. People been sayin its something with the brain but i really need some answers ASAP. Thank you for your time..
1704542 tn?1307505584 I can say that I can relate to the memory issues, loss of words, balance and speech issues But, so many diseases and syndromes have overlapping symptoms. I cannot relate to the night issues, hallucinations, etc. I hope the new neuro serves you well, and that your PCP plays an active role in your care.
Avatar n tn My own son did not stutter, but did have some speech clarity problems that were noticed when he started kindergarten, and some speech exercises fixed the problem very quickly. We wish you the best.
Avatar f tn You could also try asking your doc to refer you to a speech-language pathologist for testing to rule out aphasia. Speech-language pathologists who work in a medical setting often see a variety of patients who present with word finding difficulties and can sometimes be crucial in helping a neurologist differentially diagnose a neurological disease based upon the unique combination of speech and language symptoms the patient presents with.
Avatar f tn I have had the slurring speech come on out of nowhere before but it was like 16 years ago and i called it my lazy tongue. I was reading out loud to my consumers at work and my words started to come out all slurred and i sounded drunk. Back then it was short lived, maybe a day.I never looked into it,,, never said anything to my GP either, I was young and I thought it was normal . Who Knew>???
Avatar f tn After 3 days off, when I go back to work, I find that for the first few hours, I too find it somewhat difficult to form my words right, I stumble over simple words and sentences and things come out in the wrong order. It scared the daylights out of me too, until I spoke with one of our speech therapists. She said that what I was going through was pretty normal for someone in my particular situation. Kinda like a "feast or famine" thing.
Avatar n tn From the difficulties you mention he needs to be assessed by a Speech and Language Therapist who has experience of speech disorders as well as autistic spectrum disorders. They need to assess his expressive and receptive speech, his auditory processing/auditory memory and working memory skills. The Speech Therapist is also the professional who assesses social interation and play skills. Any difficulties with language will have an effective on social skills.
Avatar f tn The sound he repeates over and over sounds like "tickertickerticker" really fast over and over for ages sometimes.
