The Neurologist has me on Depakote which makes me drowsy and I feel numb. He and the other doctors think i'm crazy and want me to see a psychiatrist but I know this is not in my head, this is really happening.

Migraine is known to be associated with numbness, but is speech is affected, I would suspect a lesion in the cerebral cortex or the cerebellum. A transient ischemic attack would be on the list to be ruled out. What did the MRI report say? Is the speech defect persistent?

Aphasia is always due to injury to the brain-most commonly from a stroke, particularly in older individuals. But brain injuries resulting in aphasia may also arise from head trauma, from brain tumors, or from infections. Aphasia can be so severe as to make communication with the patient almost impossible, or it can be very mild.

During this migraine, she had another instance where she could not read words or remember how to spell or say them coupled with a bout of light dizziness. Some other information that I find should not be ignored is that she tends to feel older than she is sometimes, and doesn't seem to want to be active.

He did have a videostroboscopy last week and the speech pathologist said that he is having spasms and suggested we get a second opinion as to what is causing this. They suggested going to the Cleveland Clinic or the Mayo clinic which we can't afford to make it there at this time.
