Avatar n tn My son had speech delays as well as developmental delays. He was adopted, and has ADHD. Part of the speech problem was he talked around his thumb. I noticed he and his brother who is ADD mispronounced many words. I wasn't sure if this was ADD or neglect. I can see why ADD/ADHD can effect speech, because these children don't pay full attention to how things are said in order to copy them correctly. My son is now 11, and speaking fine.
Avatar m tn Then there is the mechanical part of communicating our language and that is speech. Problems with speech can include just trying to get the words out, pronouncing the words, the tonal quality of our speech, using emphasis and inflection. Problems with speech can be from weakness or spasticity of the muscles of our mouths, throats and vocal cords. Or it can be with the way our brain tries to direct the speech.
9771188 tn?1405907831 Has anyone had problems communicating? I have problems with finding the right word to use. Sometimes I use I will get so frustrated. My family and friends say that I repeat myself a lot. I do know this, especially when I am excited, happy or upset. I completely lose my train of thought. I used to be able to speak in public, and train people. This has been difficult for me. Am I alone? I have battled through much worse demons than this, but I don't want to give up now.
1719131 tn?1316584213 That’s usually why I don’t like doing it because I end up choking and stuttering on my words and then I lose where I left off and don’t want to continue reading. I also have trouble with th and f words because I say th words with with my lips and not my teeth... same with f words. It seems to be a habit but still a problem. I also always have my TV up loud... so much that my mom has to tell me to turn it down more than once before I can’t hear it at all.
Avatar n tn My seven year old son has been chewing on the collars of his clothes, and today he cut his shirt at school. He seems to be clumsy, and is constantly touching things, family members. He can't seem to leave things alone. He does have a speech problem, cannot pronounce "th", "r". We constantly have to ask him to repeat himself. Occasionally wets the bed and picks his nose. Loud noises bother him, fireworks, concerts.

Avatar m tn Loss of balance, dificulty in writing and speech increased graduly for first week. As per doctor this is a POST VIRAL CEREBRAL SYNDROME. On 16 th may 08 I had a very mild fever (100 deg F) for 2 days which improved without any medication. I was started with oral MPS but there was no improvement, rather difficulties increased. Then I was given IVMPS( Methylprednisolone Sodium Succinate - 1 gm) daily for 5 days. After 5 doses condition started improving.
Avatar m tn t breathe all the time even though the spirometer tests were normal and I was scared about it. Have you seen a speech therapist? It made a world of a difference for me. What happened is, and I know this sounds crazy, but your body has probably forgotten how to breathe. Since anxiety makes people have bad breathing patterns, even when you're not anxious, you can feel out of breath. I laughed when I was told to go to a speech therapist but I was oh so wrong.
Avatar f tn My 4 year old granddaughter has obvious speech problems. It is very hard to understand her. Her speech patterns have also changed. She used to call her mother "Mama-ee" and now she calls her "Mahee". She cannot pronounce her own name, Meaghan. I want my daughter to get her a hearing test and she says she does not think she has a hearing problem.

Avatar m tn There are three parts of speech--- articulation (making the sounds) is one we all think of with speech. but there is also receptive speech (the ability to take in and organize what is said to you so that you can understand it) and expresssive (the ability to formulate the thoughts you want to express, to organize those thoughts into words to speak). Motor planning has a huge impact on these speech componants.
Avatar f tn lol but allowing her to continue with the behavior will only make it worse. You have to discipline her a bit more and maybe get her in some speech therapy. My daughter is three and never shuts up. I had to be stern with her and set a lot of boundaries cause she was a brat at two. But is now very well behaved. Every once in awhile she reverts back a bit and can get into trouble but all toddlers do! I also have a 5 year old but he is every parents dream child has been since birth lol.
Avatar m tn t say much. Not communicating very much has fed my speech problems and really hurt my social skills and my self-esteem, so I've decided to finally try to do something about it so I can feel comfortable making conversation with people. After listening to recordings of my speech and watching myself speak on video and in a mirror, I definitely noticed that I don't speak with very good articulation.
1442701 tn?1286383987 It is harder walking at the end of each day. Today wasn't a good one. The buzzing sensation started when walking this morning & I had to ask someone else to take workers around to show service locations! I was so embarrassed & then one lady had the nerve to ask me if I would qualify for disability! Sheeps wool!!! I was so aggravated! My first MRI showed lesions in the gray matter in 2005. The person reading it said it indicated MS to them. Went to neuro & he said migraines.
Avatar f tn m trying to ask is- a)in the case of older kids with very strong personalities, what do you suggest? b) I want to be clear on his speech delay. My son has scattered skills including with speech. He knows how to say "I have to pee pee" or "I have to poopie" so the speech isnt an issue in this case, people potty train nonverbal kids. I am certain I can get him to pee in the potty on a schedule but I dont know how to get him to tell me he has to go.

400099 tn?1282954864 s not really bad at this point. I have to go to speech therapy to learn tips, exercises to strengthen muscles in throat, etc. Is this common with relapsing remitting MS? It's been hinted at that I've moved onto secondary progressive. Does anyone else have swallowing problems?
645800 tn?1466860955 This test checks your ability to decode (ability to quickly and accurately process speech), Tolerance fading memory (ability to understand speech in noise and short term memory), Integration (ability to pull together auditory information), and organization (organize and sequencing of auditor information). Basically they present 4 words that you have to repeat back, but they say other words in the opposite ear at the same time. Again I had horrible test results.
Avatar f tn That's what my doctor said. So I guess I should be happy they aren't doing one cause she's growing good n there is no problems. Well thanks ladies.
Avatar m tn Extreme tiredness, high fever, hypoglycemia or low blood sugar, high blood sugar, kidney problems causing brain fog, liver problems causing brain fog, low electrolytes, very high blood pressure, alcohol or drug intoxication, etc can all cause slurred speech. Please do not ignore this and consult a doctor ASAP or maybe go to the ER. MRI of the brain, dental examination, nerve conduction studies, kidney and liver function tests etc will be required.
Avatar f tn Thanks for input. Went to see a speech therapist the other day and confirmed that she is having difficulty swallowing. Learned some new techniques to help with this, but she will certainly need therapy.
