Common Questions and Answers about Speech problems sudden

speech

Avatar m tn Then there is the mechanical part of communicating our language and that is speech. Problems with speech can include just trying to get the words out, pronouncing the words, the tonal quality of our speech, using emphasis and inflection. Problems with speech can be from weakness or spasticity of the muscles of our mouths, throats and vocal cords. Or it can be with the way our brain tries to direct the speech.
Avatar n tn My son is 8 years old. He has been diagnosed with ADHD and has a few other problems like fine motor skills. About a year ago he started repeating his speech. Whatever he says, he repeats to himself under his breath. It's a constant behaviour pattern. It doesn't seem to be a problem but his friends have noticed it and comment on it. Anyone else have a similar experience ? This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
Avatar m tn Sorry my information was vague, but I really was not able to understand the doctor's speech. The headaches were very sudden in onset, and very severe, that is why I thought I was having a stroke. The tingling or numbness is in my left hand and arm and has since subsided and is not bad. I will certainly get a second opinion.
Avatar m tn Been experiencing problems with slurred speech and pronouncing certain words since February of this year. I tried cutting out various anti-depressant and anti-anxiety medications to see if this helped the issue, but it didn't help any. The following things seem to make it worse - 1. Caffiene 2. Tiredness 3. High sugar content 4. Speaking with strangers or people I don't know as well I have my good and bad days, but the issue seems to be getting worse.
Avatar m tn Before I talk about depresion which can definitely effect speech, Im going to say there are a lot of serious neurological causes of speech problems; if this is a possibiity you must get it checked. Drowsiness caused by alcohol, drugs or chemicl problems like diabetes and salt imbalance can make you slur your words.
307874 tn?1242755798 I am having problems today - I have been having problems with my talking to someone. I know this sounds weird but...I have been trying to say a word like I use alot but I want to pronounce it different. and it comes out comepletely wrong. It is just so confusing and depressing. I have been under alot of stress this year and just losing my dad and heard something last month that is very stressful. Could stress make it worse?
Avatar f tn If his expressive speech (how he talks), or his receptive speech (what he understands is being said to him) are affected it will have a bit impact in school because most of the day involves listening to verbal information and having to communicate with teachers and children using speech. And he has also recently moved to another country and school as well. If he has these types of difficulties it is extremely 'normal' for him to be reacting with anger and frustration.
Avatar f tn 8 weeks ago I had a sudden onset of heavy coordination and slurred, very slow speech. I was hospitalized as they thought I had a stroke. My hands curled towards me and my legs dragged as I walked into the ER. They did a CT scan, MRI, MRA, chest X-ray and blood work. The speech therapist said that it seemed as though my problem was coming from 2 parts of my brain, lower and higher in the brain. My eyes wanted to fix in a daze and I seemed distant although I knew everything going on around me.
9771188 tn?1405907831 Has anyone had problems communicating? I have problems with finding the right word to use. Sometimes I use I will get so frustrated. My family and friends say that I repeat myself a lot. I do know this, especially when I am excited, happy or upset. I completely lose my train of thought. I used to be able to speak in public, and train people. This has been difficult for me. Am I alone? I have battled through much worse demons than this, but I don't want to give up now.
Avatar f tn I think that you need to go to the ER ASAP to find out why you are having speech problems all the sudden. This is NOT normal and is not related to your period problems. The headaches probably are because your hormones are out of balance and it can cause headaches. Is your family doctor treating you for your period issues or a gynecologist? You really need to see a gynecologist as this is their specialty. It sounds like you may have a condition called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS).
Avatar n tn Met all milestones pretty much on time except talking. He did not talk until 3 yrs old.He has severe speech apraxia and takes speech 3 times a week.We have seen some small improvment.I also know he does not have conversations like a 4 yr old does.He doesnt ever talk about past or future, doesnt talk about ideas or really anything except in the moment type of stuff.Like if a firetruck passes by he might say "firetruck" or "two firetruck".But even this is very hard to understand.
Avatar f tn I have not contacted the doctor yet but will do shortly. My speech is fine, my thinking seems fine, everything except that. Any ideas whether this might be a mini stroke (ischemic attack)? I was diagnosed with Diabetes Type 1 in 2019, and I am 69 years old. I have not had this symptom before.
Avatar n tn We figured that some of the changes in her medications few months ago might have led to these sudden problems, and she has been put back on those medications. Now, we have also started her on integrated therapy that includes medication, yoga theraphy and ayurveda. My questions are: 1. Have you or someone you know faced sever psychological / psychiatric problems as a result of stroke? 2. Can stroke lead to parkinsons or dementia? 3.
Avatar n tn No matter which way you look at it, the sudden difficulty in speech must have been a sudden drop in oxygen to the brain. Maybe it was what is termed as a mini stroke which you usually quickly recover from. I would question your medication, perhaps you need something to lower the risk of strokes until they discover the problem. Have the carotid arteries in your neck been checked over?
1088527 tn?1425313375 I had this test 3 yrs ago and it showed food getting stuck on right side so went to speech therapy learned some tricks. I only eat 1 meal a day because after the 1st few bites and havibg it stuck there I lose my appetite. I go to speech nxt week and see what they can do for me.
Avatar f tn Hi my sister-n-law had triplets and then another set of twins. All premie's and all with delayed speech. By age 2 they all had a speech therapist work with them because of weak mouth/tongue. Within a short period of time they all had advanced in their language skills. The therapist said with some mouth exercises they have really caught up. They are now 6 and 3 yrs old.
Avatar f tn On the way to hospital everything slowed down in my mind and speech. I still have slurred, slow, jerky speech and twitching in my upper back when i walk. MRI, CT, blood tests, EEG all clear to rule out stroke or tumour or lesions. I was released with the neurologists saying it'll just go away in a few weeks. Even suggested psych review which again cleared me for any psychological issues. They said they have no explanation but are so confident it will go away. It's very frustrating.....
Avatar f tn I am a 43 women with and I sudden change in my speech. My voice has gotten slightly deeper at times and my speech is significantly slurred now. I went to see my dentist because I thought it had something to do with the gaps in the lower part of my teeth that I have had sense I've had teeth. My dentist said she thought it was a hormonal change. I also noticed that my tongue is very sensitive to my teeth now. I do have other Peri-menapause symptoms but these, if they are that are extreme.
Avatar m tn t breathe all the time even though the spirometer tests were normal and I was scared about it. Have you seen a speech therapist? It made a world of a difference for me. What happened is, and I know this sounds crazy, but your body has probably forgotten how to breathe. Since anxiety makes people have bad breathing patterns, even when you're not anxious, you can feel out of breath. I laughed when I was told to go to a speech therapist but I was oh so wrong.
Avatar m tn He scheduled blood tests and an MRI, as well as an x-ray of the spine. (I have had constant headaches for 5 months so we thought the two problems may be releated). Now, another week later, I am having even more difficulty speaking, feeling a particular tightness in my chin. I can still speak relatively well, with a slurred word her and there, but I feel like I'm having to try too hard. I can still easily open and move my mouth, and shake my tongue quickly from side to side.
