Avatar f tn She is 7 years old and she still takes a sippy cup. All she wants to eat is the sippy cup with whole milk. Trying to get her to eat is a battle every single time. She is in therapy at the moment for OT, PT, and ST. She also has Sensory problems. My question is, once we visit the nuerologist and he runs all the tests, is there something really they can do to help that part of her brain that is underdeveloped?
Avatar f tn I live with my in laws and i have a two year old son who im trying to train to drink out of a sippy cup and not a bottle. I get wic so i get a lot of milk and juice but sometimes thats all he has all day, milk and juice. ive been trying to give him water in a cup but he doesnt touch it. He starts throwing a fit and i stand my ground but he goes to his grandma (mother in law) and she gives him whatever he wants and he wants it in a bottle.
94902 tn?1330479667 We are also still working on the lifting the sippy cup up but he will do it from time to time. I just continually show him how to do it. I think that it will all come with time. I figure that he will pick it up when he really really needs a drink and nothing is coming out.
1345697 tn?1430619021 We got Ellie drinking from a cup at 6 months. She will only take Breastmilk out of a Tommie tippie brand "sippy" cup but for water will take a sippy cup w no valve or a cup with straw or even regular cup.
Avatar f tn Now is refusing everything but a little milk in sippy cup. We need exact steps to take to turn this around. The more we try, the more he resists. Have been told he will eat when hungry. Even when his tummy growls, he refuses to eat.
443968 tn?1288612689 Cooper will drink out a sippy cup and also thru a straw. It can take quite a while to getused to a sippy cup, just keep trying!!
443968 tn?1288612689 Girls I need suggestions, we need to throw the bottle away and get James to drink from a sippy cup, the way does not like it and hates water. Any ideas how to do it, we are going nuts and are welcoming any suggestions.
1123420 tn?1350561158 You most certainly can switch him from a bottle! Try using a soft nipple sippy cup and see what he does, he might like it more. I started giving Elijah a sippy around the same age, but he would still take the bottle too. I had him off it by 11 months, and he was on a sippy all the time, but I see nothing wrong with trying a sippy if he'll take it. To my knowledge there's no age that they have to stay on a bottle.
178590 tn?1294176767 My daughter went straight to normal cup - we never did sippy cups...but there are of course occasions where we needed something with a lid. And for those occasions I got some cups with lid & straw from Babies R Us. Maybe something like that would work since a straw has larger opening than the little holes in sippy cups. toysrus com/product/index.jsp?
94902 tn?1330479667 I have started giving JT somea little bit of water in a sippy cup last week. He isn't really holding it up himself and doesn't really suck anything out of it. I am going to ask JT's pediatrician about the finger foods.
889551 tn?1416184483 well...you could always do what I did with Kahlan, but she was a bit older (closer to 2)...I ordered her a special cup that allows her to drink as if she were drinking from a normal adult cup..it's not spill PROOF but it's spill resistant...lemme get you the link. https://www.reflo.net/?gclid=CJDkqfnXyqsCFYPu7Qodo2ol8g totally awesome. she transitioned from that to an adult cup without batting an eyelash and with no spills (in 3 months..cross my fingers, lol). BUT..with that said...

Avatar n tn I need advice how to wean her from the dropper and either to a bottle or a sippy cup. I know I will get alot from all of these specialist. But I want a variety of advice. I have learned my lesson to not trust just one 1 person any more. I had to argue with the Ped to convince him there was something wrong because he keep on see the results of my husband and I preventing my baby from falling down too fast. I basically show him a daily graph of her weight.
492921 tn?1321289896 What type of sippy cup do you use? I've tried tommee tippy and she can't figure it out yet. I also have a nuby and nuk since the spout is silicone she just bites down on it and gets a little bit in her mouth. She doesn't suck on it. I tried it myself to see how hard you have to suck and it's pretty hard. I usually just put water in them. I haven't found a juice yet that she likes. I've tried apple juice, apple cider with cherry juice and white grape juice.
3563117 tn?1348679646 We stopped a bottle by 1, and sippy cup by 2, he's been drinking out of big boy cups since then, and loves it! Definitely try the character cups though, my son is 3 1/2 and in school now so it was definitely better for us to start the big boy cup early.
719902 tn?1334165183 I used to be able to put him in his bed and he would lay in there drinking his sippy cup and fall asleep. Now he drinks the sippy cup and is up and crying for us to come get him. He has been on the sippy cup for awhile so I don't think it is the transitioning but whatever it is it's causing him to wake up in the middle of the night to which is causing me to get less sleep and more headaches so if anyone can figure out what it could be let me know.
Avatar f tn My son is 17mths and still has 1 bottle at night before bed. During the day he uses a sippy cup. He's been using different kinds of sippy cups made for different ages since he was 6mths old. Occassionally now he'll try out of a normal cup but he's still at the age where it's more fun to blow bubbles and end up soaking wet.
470885 tn?1326329037 I took Baby G in for his 6 month check up and immunization last week - he's going to be 7 months tomorrow. Anyway...I've been exclusively breastfeeding - except for a bit of formula in a sippy cup before bed - and solids which I've introduced in the last month. My GP asked if I wanted to wean and I said I did.....
Avatar n tn Habit , possibly a comfort thing dont read much into it, if you want to stop her using the bottle you can introduce a sippy cup ,but you know there are no rules on time frame and if you are okay with it, doesnt affect anyone.,when you want to start her off with the sippy cup in the car ,she may need the comfort of the bottle more at bed time.then when you feel right about doing it, just let it get lost somewhere she will miss it for about 2 days...
702769 tn?1228640752 As she is verbal you can start asking her what about the situation is upsetting her. You may have to ask specific questions to get an answer. Eg. If you ask 'why' are you getting upset, she may just say 'I don't know'. But if you ask 'does the eye test hurt you? she might reply 'yes' or 'no'. Or ask her 'does the smell of the hospital bother you?' Rather like the game 20 questions.
768015 tn?1333652075 Anyway for the past 2 days I bought cups and sippy cups and she is loosing her mind for her bottle. She throws the sippy cup at me and throws herself on the floor yelling for her Ba Ba. I don't know what to do.. I know it's only been 2 days but I don't want her to be upset about this. Does anyone has any experience weaning off the bottle? I am expecting another daughter in September and I want her to be off it soon.

624083 tn?1369314263 ll usually fill up a sippy cup with water, take the lid off, and hold him and let him have about 1/4 of a sippy cup worth. Jack LOVES drinking out of cups...not sippy with the spout but drinking out of a cup with no lid (while I hold it for him). He squeals in delight and leans forward for more and makes excited noises! He just takes little sips. Half of it winds up down his bib and shirt! But, he gets some down to wet his whistle!
736293 tn?1316517842 Does anyone know when a good time to start giving a baby a sippy cup? I have been giving Kyra one with some water in it lately, but all she really does is chew on it. I am not going to push the subject b/c i don't even give her a bottle at home, but i just wanted to know everyone else's thoughts.
Avatar n tn She will drink juice and water from a sippy cup, but will not drink my milk or formula from a bottle or a sippy cup!!! What should I do?? I need for her to take a bottle because she will need it when I go back to work in a month.
