Avatar f tn The ER doctors, Neurologist , and my PCP Doctor all said they have never known for a migraine to cause long term speech problems. I have read cases of slurred speech occuring but this usually subsides after the headache goes away. I have now been like this for 25 days. The Neurologist has me on Depakote which makes me drowsy and I feel numb. He and the other doctors think i'm crazy and want me to see a psychiatrist but I know this is not in my head, this is really happening.
Avatar f tn s opinion to rule out any other cause behind the symptoms of speech deterioration. Migraine is known to be associated with numbness, but is speech is affected, I would suspect a lesion in the cerebral cortex or the cerebellum. A transient ischemic attack would be on the list to be ruled out. What did the MRI report say? Is the speech defect persistent?

Avatar m tn Last night she had experienced a migraine and she had been throwing up as well. During this migraine, she had another instance where she could not read words or remember how to spell or say them coupled with a bout of light dizziness. Some other information that I find should not be ignored is that she tends to feel older than she is sometimes, and doesn't seem to want to be active.
Avatar n tn Hi Given that all these tests came back negative the closest differential we can consider here is a migraine with aura. Migraine aura may present in various ways but commonly as visual symptoms wherein a black spot or a spot of light may be present usually over the central vision. Other auras may present as a slurring of speech, tingling of extremities or a change in the sense of smell and taste. Migraine auras should not last for more than an hour.

457050 tn?1259070764 That episode of migraines when you were eleven ,would you be able to elaborate more on that? You have posted that at that time you had speech and motor problems. Was there any visual symptoms as well? For how long did your symptoms last at that time? Did your symptoms revert back to normal after how many days? Does anyone in the family also present similarly? Any one with strokelike symptoms in your family?
1340519 tn?1305166702 I have severe episodes of vertigo, slurred speech/trouble finding words... I basically feel "off" and fuzzy in the head. I have had many many tests and scans and have seen several doctors. The possibility of Migraine has come up a couple times and I was given Meclazine and Antivert which did nothing for me (that was 8 years ago). I am looking for anyone who is diagnosed with Migraine (basilar?) and has NO headache pain...

Do discuss this with your neurologist and get yourself examined accordingly. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Avatar f tn He still experiences all of these problems and prevents him from working. He took speech therapy for 3 months with no change. He sees a neurologist monthly and nobody has any answers. He did have a videostroboscopy last week and the speech pathologist said that he is having spasms and suggested we get a second opinion as to what is causing this. They suggested going to the Cleveland Clinic or the Mayo clinic which we can't afford to make it there at this time.

511809 tn?1211301821 Hi, thanks for the advice. I have never had a migraine where my speech was slurred. This is a brand new symptom with my headache, I have been getting migraines since I am 15 years old. Each one I get always gets worse with the pain. The slurring lasted until I stopped talking and fell asleep and didn't really talk to anyone the rest of the night. When I woke up in the morning, I was fine with just the leftovers of a migraine.

Avatar f tn 1. Can the neurological problems persist, even increase, once the migraine pain stops? 2. Can I still be having the migraine that is causing the neurological problems but not feel all the typical migraine symptoms?
Avatar m tn Since coming back home, I started to have migraine like headaches along with other post mTBI symptoms (dizziness, cognative problems, etc). Anyway, my neurologist is treating me currently with 25mg Nortriptyline and 25mg Topamax at night. They have helped (more so the Topamax). The first week and a half I noticed absolutely no side effects of the Topamax. Today I have some slight hand trembling and also felt like my speech wasn't right. (Like I couldn't think of the right word).
