Avatar m tn I've had problems in the past with slurred speech, but it's mostly just fatigue. Do you have any lesions in your neck?
9771188 tn?1405907831 Has anyone had problems communicating? I have problems with finding the right word to use. Sometimes I use I will get so frustrated. My family and friends say that I repeat myself a lot. I do know this, especially when I am excited, happy or upset. I completely lose my train of thought. I used to be able to speak in public, and train people. This has been difficult for me. Am I alone? I have battled through much worse demons than this, but I don't want to give up now.
Avatar f tn Jacqui, my son too had speech problems at that age. In fact it seemed almost as if when he was younger and only spoke one word at a time, it was more clear. I also thought for awhile that he was being "lazy" with his words, but it is not their fault they just don't have the tongue strength. I too had just moved to a new town and didn't know a lot of the resources available. I spoke to his doctor and she recommended a speech therapist evaluation.
3053649 tn?1356365017 That little piece of flesh under the tongue is very close or at the tip of the babies tongue which can cause speech problems and trouble with breast feeding. So what happens is the doc will recommend it to be clipped to free the movement of the tongue. It literally takes 2 seconds and barely bleeds. My son just had it done. He's adjusting to the freedom of moving his tongue around.
1088527 tn?1425313375 I had a modified barium swallow on thurs due to more difficulty in swallowing and too much weight loss on average 5lbs a month. I had this test 3 yrs ago and it showed food getting stuck on right side so went to speech therapy learned some tricks. Things have changed this time for the worse the test showed that food is getting stuck in my esophagus and wont move even after large quantities of fluid.
Avatar m tn Like i said, its been going on for 3 months, and i havent even been able to get one normal deep breath like i used to in that span of time. I saw a lung specialist, did the test where you blow into the machine, and i was told my results were normal. How can this be? I dont feel like i can breathe as well as i used to. Im supposed to go in for one more test but the doctor seemed pretty convinced that i was fine. So then what could be making me feel this way?
Avatar f tn My 4 year old granddaughter has obvious speech problems. It is very hard to understand her. Her speech patterns have also changed. She used to call her mother "Mama-ee" and now she calls her "Mahee". She cannot pronounce her own name, Meaghan. I want my daughter to get her a hearing test and she says she does not think she has a hearing problem.
Avatar n tn I had speech problems ( in #1 ) and now I am talking fluently after taking mirtazapine. Whats going on? Thank you and expecting your answers.
Avatar f tn I dont think he is behind on speech!! I havent heard him in person, but any two year old that is spelling obviously has a great teacher at home helping him learn these things. I never really payed attention to the circumference of my children's heads, and never really heard the doctor mention it. Most babies have really large heads in comparison with their bodies. About two they start to grow into their head, and dont look as awkward. Maybe the head doesnt grow for a while.
342647 tn?1291107933 That is normal and it actually sounds like your baby might be advanced in the speech department! Just keep speaking clearly and talking a lot to them and they'll pick it all up. Your pediatrician will start assessing speech development during visits. At least they SHOULD. You might notice, as they do the exam, the doctor will ask your child questions like, "What's your favorite food? Do you have a special toy?" to coax them into talking to see how well they speak.
Avatar m tn Now, I will tell you that when I worked nights and another period of my life when I two little babies (my kids are really close in age), I was sleep deprived in a way that was paramount for cognitive issues. I had trouble remembering things and speaking as well. And being depressed or overly anxious can impair our communication as well.
Avatar n tn Is she delayed in her speech or language? I have seen children do this when they are having a hard time communicating with others. I made a necklace out of a teething toy for a child that was having problems with biting. We taught him to bite the necklace when he was angry instead of another child. This really helped him. She could be having sensory issues that can be identified by taking her to an Occupational Therapist. I do not believe this is happening for no reason.

Avatar n tn I've had these things for 14 yrs now, & this is the first time i've ever gotten involved w/ a forum! my story is similar, but for sure more severe. there must be a genetic component, b/c my mom (i'm 35) has been able to guide me through it since she had the same thing. she hasn't had one (i think) since menopause, so we believe there's a hormone component. lots of things to say that seem like might help others, so here goes!
Avatar m tn There are three parts of speech--- articulation (making the sounds) is one we all think of with speech. but there is also receptive speech (the ability to take in and organize what is said to you so that you can understand it) and expresssive (the ability to formulate the thoughts you want to express, to organize those thoughts into words to speak). Motor planning has a huge impact on these speech componants.
Avatar m tn t say much. Not communicating very much has fed my speech problems and really hurt my social skills and my self-esteem, so I've decided to finally try to do something about it so I can feel comfortable making conversation with people. After listening to recordings of my speech and watching myself speak on video and in a mirror, I definitely noticed that I don't speak with very good articulation.
Avatar f tn My oldest son (now 8) is tongue tied. We found out at his 18 month appointment and realized that was why he could never latch on for breastfeeding. However, the Dr said at that point they recommend waiting to see of it affected him before having his frenulum cut. He's in 2nd grade this year and has never had any speech problems due to the short tongue. IMO, if your baby isn't having problems eating, just leave it be. If as he gets older he starts having issues, you could look into it.
1442701 tn?1286383987 It is harder walking at the end of each day. Today wasn't a good one. The buzzing sensation started when walking this morning & I had to ask someone else to take workers around to show service locations! I was so embarrassed & then one lady had the nerve to ask me if I would qualify for disability! Sheeps wool!!! I was so aggravated! My first MRI showed lesions in the gray matter in 2005. The person reading it said it indicated MS to them. Went to neuro & he said migraines.
Avatar f tn Dr Kennedy, I have a soon to be four year old who isn't potty trained. I completely blame myself. Last summer before he was three, he was not resistant, sat in the potty chair very nicely (obviously I don't know about the big boy toilet and how that would've gone over) although he would not indicate he had to go, he would go at scheduled times if he had to. But he had the will and thought it was fun.
400099 tn?1282954864 s not really bad at this point. I have to go to speech therapy to learn tips, exercises to strengthen muscles in throat, etc. Is this common with relapsing remitting MS? It's been hinted at that I've moved onto secondary progressive. Does anyone else have swallowing problems?
Avatar f tn DOC AT 18 MONTHS AND HE DID NOT SUSPECT ANY AUTISM. WE WILL SEE HIM AGAIN IN A FEW MONTHS. WE ARE DOING SPEECH THERAPY, EARLY INTERVENTION AND OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY (OT DUE TO HIS LACK OF FOCUS ON ANYTHING FOR EXTENTED PERIOD OF TIME) I WAS JUST WONDERING SINCE HE SOMETIMES DOESNT SEEM TO KNOW WHAT I AM SAYING. IS THERE ANY OTHER HEARING TEST THAT I SHOULD CONSIDER? IS THERE ANY SPECIFIC HEARING PROBLEMS W/KIDS WHO ARE BORN W/TORTICOLLIS?
645800 tn?1466860955 This test checks your ability to decode (ability to quickly and accurately process speech), Tolerance fading memory (ability to understand speech in noise and short term memory), Integration (ability to pull together auditory information), and organization (organize and sequencing of auditor information). Basically they present 4 words that you have to repeat back, but they say other words in the opposite ear at the same time. Again I had horrible test results.
Avatar f tn any way he has been have development delays, especially in his speech, and behavioral problems. any information would be helpful, i dont know what to do. we saw a developmental specialist a year ago because his pediatrician thought he was showing signs for autisms, but that was ruled out and was diagnosed with anxiety problems. he still is having major problem in school and going to see the specialist again in a few weeks. thank you for your time and hope to hear from you soon.
3588173 tn?1357317184 Growth restricted babies normally have to spend some time in the hospital depending on what they weigh and how far along you are when baby is delivered. (Most hospitals wont release a newborn unless it weighs at least 5 lbs.
Avatar f tn i experience balance problems too during the vertigo also from past week i am feeling little slurryness in speech more when i read from something rather than speaking also when i read silently i experience difficulty in reading like slurriness. i have headaches more on top of my head little bit to left they are on and off head aches and are very deep.once i felt pounding pulse not hard but soft pounding on left side while sitting which went away quickly.
Avatar f tn My 66 year old mother had a stroke in October 2010. While still in the hospital and then rehab, they said she passed the swallow test and put her on solid foods. By November she said she didn't have an appetite and would only eat baby food or ensure nutritional shakes, and whenever she did eat something her stomach would rumble loudly. Before the stroke she was diagnosed with GERD so I thought perhaps this was contributing to the problem.
