speech

Avatar m tn t say much. Not communicating very much has fed my speech problems and really hurt my social skills and my self-esteem, so I've decided to finally try to do something about it so I can feel comfortable making conversation with people. After listening to recordings of my speech and watching myself speak on video and in a mirror, I definitely noticed that I don't speak with very good articulation.
Avatar m tn I cant complete yawns anymore either, and i generally feel like my capacity has been reduced and it just feels like my chest is tighter. I do have an anxiety disorder, but its not only like this when im anxious. Like i said, its been going on for 3 months, and i havent even been able to get one normal deep breath like i used to in that span of time. I saw a lung specialist, did the test where you blow into the machine, and i was told my results were normal. How can this be?
Avatar m tn my nerves are all over the place in my leg and knee which causes my leg to be stiff. Would this also help with my leg and anxiety for public speaking? I don't have access to a naturopath that I know of.
Avatar f tn do you have speech problems? like to where you sound tone deaf ever since you got pregnant? my lips feel swollen too and it feels like whenever i close my lips on a fork or spoon, it's not really there. and when i get polar pops or something to drink a straw out of, i squirt whats in my cup everywhere. It kinda feels like i just got out of the dentist.. like that numb feeling. But I literally sound like one of them tone deaf people and i dont know what it could be from.
Avatar m tn i used to have a bad case of anxiety in High School but it comes and goes but i exercise to overcome it and stay busy with sports and work and school. But recently ive been dizzy and ive been having like speech problems or difficulty. like i slur my words and the words i want to say come out wrong like exapmle instead of saying like TILA,.. ill say TALILA or something.. i also been getting headaches like migraines. im usually sleepy like 1/2 of the day as well.
Avatar m tn Not sure if this will help, but I HAD the same problem..extreme fear of speaking in front of groups. Also, anxiety. I take 12.5 mg of Paxil for anxiety and that has helped. I talk in front of groups alot. If it is really bad, I take a small dose of Xanax, and that calms me. I never took ativan. Good luck. Oh, Xanax does not effect my speaking, it just calms me abit. I don't slur or look like an idiot.
Avatar m tn Im still getting over depression, stress and anxiety, can all of this cause a stutter with my words? Also can you forget a lot more and forget what you were going to say?
Avatar n tn I have an anxiety and panic attack disorder which makes it very hard for me to tell if something is actually physically wrong with me. I get the pains here and there through out the day but it gets really bad every night when I try to sleep. Sometimes I get pains in my back too and a numbness in my fingers. I'm sure this could all be my anxiety but it feels different from what I'm used to.
1415711 tn?1286281354 t think the muscle tension could cause slurred speech but the anxiety and stress is causing the muscle tension therefore causing slurred speech. Just to make sure it's nothing serious I would insist on a brain CT-scan or MRI if not already done. A CBC should be done too. Better be safe than sorry and after you will know what to work on and that is, anxiety and stress management.
Avatar f tn Is it common for kids with apraxia to have behavior problems even when speech is improving and is it common for kids with appraxia to be misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder? I'm very concerned that we're going down the wrong path here, but this doctor is very determined to convince that the behavior is not related to the appraxia and instead related to bipolar.

Avatar m tn Been experiencing problems with slurred speech and pronouncing certain words since February of this year. I tried cutting out various anti-depressant and anti-anxiety medications to see if this helped the issue, but it didn't help any. The following things seem to make it worse - 1. Caffiene 2. Tiredness 3. High sugar content 4. Speaking with strangers or people I don't know as well I have my good and bad days, but the issue seems to be getting worse.
Avatar f tn Sometimes, as you say, the feeling is barely noticeable and the anxiety level remains low, but when it gets really bad, my anxiety shoots through the roof. It is a VERY unpleasant feeling and it's all I can focus on. I've discussed this with my neuro a few times and he thinks it's all in my head................DOH! But, he also apparently doesn't think it's anything to be alarmed about, so I've just tried very hard to learn to live with it as part of my panic.
Avatar m tn Then there is the mechanical part of communicating our language and that is speech. Problems with speech can include just trying to get the words out, pronouncing the words, the tonal quality of our speech, using emphasis and inflection. Problems with speech can be from weakness or spasticity of the muscles of our mouths, throats and vocal cords. Or it can be with the way our brain tries to direct the speech.
1006035 tn?1485575897 By the way, my son has never done speech therapy as his issue was sensory and motor planning related. We worked on his sensory system and his speech got better. I spoke slowly to him and had him watch me when I spoke. Anyway, I have lots of things to do with speech as we did work on it in occupational therapy and a million behavioral strategies (especially geared to preschool) if you are interested. Hope you are feeling better.

Avatar f tn About 3 weeks ago, I noticed my speech was slurring. That had never happened before and as it continued for several days. I went to a NP…she did a ton of bloodwork, all normal. She told me she though anxiety was playing a part in it. Over the weekend, I felt like I was going to faint and had what I would call my first panic attack. I was nauseous, hot, cold, clammy and it took hours to call down. That week I had some tingling here and there as well.

1101956 tn?1257781705 Most of my symptoms were neurological such as Brrain fog, fatigue, anxiety, Cognitive problems, Deperzonalization, Speech impairment, and tingling sensation on top of my scalp. I also suffered from hormonal disbalances and Irritable bowel. However I still feel some symptoms like anxiety and fatigue. I was wondering if anyone here knows or has any information on people being treated with Human Growth Hormone while having Lyme disease.
Avatar f tn Lately my studdering has gotten a lot worse and about a few months ago I noticed i started slurping my speech more which has never happened to me before. Like for instance I try to say “getting” and it will come out as “gotting” instead and I can’t control it. Does anybody know what the cause of this might be? Did someone else experience something like this?
Avatar f tn There are two types of speech disorders that occur in MS, dysarthrias and dysphonias. Speech problems where the motor muscle components of speech are affected are dysarthrias (these typically affect volume control and articulation) while speech problems that affect voice quality are dysphonias.
Avatar m tn Among the more likely types to cause problems are some of the drugs used to treat depression and anxiety, antihistamines, decongestants, high blood pressure medications, anti-diarrheals, muscle relaxants, drugs for urinary incontinence" http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/dry-mouth/HA00034/DSECTION=causes Also what you've described - "...when i am speaking i pause before the last word of every sentence or i might pause in the middle-but mostly it is right before the last word.
