Avatar f tn My DS is highly functioning, extremely intelligent, beautiful, and to meet him you would never know at this age...except that he gets frustrated easily and his tantrums may be worse than normal...and wwe need a lot of work on social skills. I am learning that there are so many signs and symptoms that no two children with spectrum disorders are the same...if you observed ten children they would all be so different that you may not even associate them as having alot of the same issues.
Avatar m tn Sorry Teak, I thank you for reading my post, let me explain what has occurred. As stated in my previous post, my partner was tested several weeks ago for HIV. Last week, she again met with her mid-wife and asked about the HIV results - it turns out the blood test had not been signed-off and they had not tested it.
Avatar m tn A follow up ultrasound revealed a hyperechoic mass and a core biopsy was done. The final diagnosis on the pathology shows Atypical Epithelial Proliferation and a note that says the specimen consists of fragmented portions of a papillary epithelial proliferation that is suggestive of a papillary intracystic carcinoma. Evaluation of invasive malignancy is difficult due to fragmentation. So in a few days I will have this axillary mass excised as well as an axillary node dissection.
Avatar n tn My son is 4 and a half years old. He has delayed speech. His sentences are one to three words. His doctor had always said he was perfect. Everything else has developed normally and on time. At age 4, his doctor felt that maybe he fell on the spectrum of Autism because of delayed speech and his behavior. I took him to see a speech pathologist. She said he had receptive/expressive disorder. I took him to a neurologist, and after 15 minutes of observation, he decided that it is Autism.
Avatar f tn I have a speech problem and what didn’t help me was everybody reinforcing that I had the problem. That only willed the stronghold and made me believe it more. She’s still young tell her she can speak and when people speak they don’t think about what they are going to say they just speak. And just let her do it if she stutters or anything just wait for her to finish speaking. She’ll get it down and it would help to find out why she turned out that way. My dad made me stutter.
Avatar m tn If the pace of his speech/language does not pick up some momentum over the next several months it would be prudent to arrange an evaluation with a Speech/Language pathologist and/or arrange an Earli Intervention evaluation.
Avatar m tn It appears your pain is referred pain from muscular origin based on the imformation provided. Dental origin is not likely. Sinus pathology needs to be ruled out by ENT doctor. If no sinus pathlogy identified, seeing a tmj specialist is advised.
Avatar f tn s development of speech/language is definitiely delayed, and this warants evaluation by a Speech/Language therapist. But an audiological evaluation is crucial, because it is possible that the delay in speech is secondary to hearing loss.
Avatar f tn If you are concerned, you could call your doctor and be referred for a speech evaluation or go through an evaluation through your local school system now that he is three. My older son was evaluated for speech concerns at almost 4 and the speech pathologist concluded he would self correct as his articulation issues were all within normal for his age group. If they hadn't been, we would have started speech therapy. It never hurts to find out. (in my opinion.
Avatar n tn I did that and my psychiatrist found after her complete evaluation that she has Expressive Speech Delay and motor coordination is not fully developed. So she referred us to a speech therapist and suggested us few exercises. Do you think that this recommendation is Ok for my daughter........... Pls guide..........
Avatar f tn I would make an appointment for an evaluation with a Speech Therapist just so you can put you fears to rest. Most insurance will cover an eval. I do know the younger a child is when the receive speech therapy, the easier it is to correct. Has she been nervous about anything? Has she had any accidents lately?
Avatar f tn I would ask the school about his speech. If he's in public school maybe they could do a speech evaluation to see where they are. Five year old boys are VERY immature. His social skills may be behind too.
Avatar f tn You may want to ask your pediatrician for a referral for a speech evaluation. Depending on his age, speech may not be a bad idea. Sometimes when more demands are placed upon a child, his capabilities for fluent speech decrease. Extraneous movements could be from stuttering but also from a tic disorder. So you'd want someone to rule out the possibilities. Speech therapy can help in more ways think you would think, and would be of no cost if he is in public schools.
Avatar f tn About 4 months in there was no improvement and so they did another evaluation and said that they believed he had Childhood Apraxia of Speech. Which is a motor speech disorder. Once we got that figured out we were able to gear his speech classes for Apraxia and have had amazing results. Before he only said 8 words and now he is up to almost 70.
3079363 tn?1363273715 ve given up the job for which I spent four years at university and now live in fear that another bout of speech issues will be the end of my current job in education. Although it wouldn't be the end of the world financially, it probably would be the end of my self esteem. Do you think there is any possibility that the stress caused by your home situation and the obvious fright you have had with your neuropsych results has exacerbated things for you?
Avatar f tn For your peace of mind, I’d suggest that you describe your concerns to your pediatrician and ask whether s/he thinks that referral to a specialist for further evaluation is necessary. They may recommend further evaluation, or they might find her development to be relatively normal. If they don’t recommend follow-up and you still don’t see improvement within a few months, you might want to bring your concerns back to your pediatrician and ask again for a referral to a specialist.
Avatar f tn What was the information from his speech evaluation? There are three parts to speech. Receptive (taking in what is said to you and processing it), expressive (organizing what you want to say) and articulation (forming the words). If any one of these has an issue, speech can be delayed. All are slightly different. My son had articulation issues first. That has gone away completely. He does have some processing issues. He processes slowly.
Avatar m tn s thyroiditis have tongue issues that has/had an impact on your speech? I have the scalloped appearance to my tongue, a swollen feeling near the back and underneath the tongue which affects my speech. Did the thyroid meds fix the problem and if so, how long did it take?
Avatar f tn t seen that as a test for dysphagia in any MS forum. It seems more relevant to get a barium swallow or speech pathology assessment. I've had so many tests lately, and spent so much time at the clinic, that I'd like to avoid this if it's not necessary. Any thoughts?
Avatar m tn Is he of normal intelligence? How does he fare at nursery school? What does his mother have to say about his speech? You didn't mention any speech impediments, like stuttering or lisping, only that his speech was limited to one word responses, and that those responses often made no sense. Is it possible that the boy is uncomfortable with you, and behaves oddly because of it?
Avatar f tn and everything is fine. Others have a few things going on. My son had a speech evaluation at three years old. we learned that he was fine in responsive language, expressive language but had some articulation issues. This is due to motor planning as my son was diagnosed at 4 with sensory integration disorder. I would schedule a speech evaluation for him. Your pediatrician would probably have recommended that as they look for kids who struggle with speech.
Avatar f tn For proper evaluation, it is best that you discuss this with your attending physician or your speech-language pathologist. Treatment will depend on the underlying issue. Stress-reduction techniques like meditation, acupuncture, biofeedback, massage, and yoga may also help. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Over the last ten years I've suffered from a severe burning pain in my back near the inside edge of the left shoulder blade. Recently the pain occurs when I am walking or standing for ten minutes or more. I can get some relief by bending forward from the waist but the relief is only momentary. I've brought the condition to the attention of two different doctors but their attitude can best be described as dismissive.
