193609 tn?1292180293 Hello, at your son's age, any speech language therapy would be likely to give him some benefit, so I would not say no to the services provided in your county. Special education services as defined in the law cover children from birth to age 21, so I am sure your county provides speech therapy to children your son's age.
2011837 tn?1343797528 Look up the SC Department of Education website. They have info on GED requirements on there. There is a lot of info on the site about all education programs for the state. Good luck and good for you for taking care of your education!
168006 tn?1241012961 He is extremely social, communicative, and loving. His speech skills are far behind what they should be. He sees a speech therapist as well as an occupational therapist twice a week and that has really helped him. He does not take any meds (even if they tried I would not let him take them). My suggestion would be to get your son examined by a child psychologist- try and get a diagnosis. The main issue you may have is that it seems that your son once had skills and has now regressed.
11408025 tn?1417974109 It really depends on the area you live in and what schools you want to send your child. My daughter is in daycare, so she won't go to a preschool. The daycare has similar curriculum. My son will start there as well when I go back to work. Our daycare has a waiting list. Both of my kids were on the waiting list before I even was able to find out boy or girl.
Avatar f tn can somebody explain special education? My grandson has ADHD, mild depressive disorder, SID and emotional problems. He was removed at age 3 from his parents due to neglect by the parents who were heroin addicts. Avatar f tn Many assume that language issues are associated with autism and they can be------- but speech issues are quite common with sensory kids and speech delays exist on their own. Social skills did not come naturally to my child. We have worked very hard teaching them to him. We did a "social skills camp" last summer. Very helpful.
Avatar n tn ve written, it sounds like your son would benefit from special education services, whether it be speech therapy and/or a class for children with special needs. I would focus on helping him right now, as opposed to: catching him up to his peer level/grade level. From what you have said so far, it sounds like you have been pursing this through the medical community, which is good, but is he receiving educational services at all? If so, what type of education is your son currently receiving?

Avatar n tn I would absolutely recommend seeking appropriate special education and speech therapy services for your child. The evidence is very clear that children diagnosed with autism can make substantial progress when they receive appropriate and intensive intervention at a young age. I strongly recommend that you avoid using medication to treat behavioral difficulties, especially with a child as young as yours.
Avatar f tn Let me start by saying, he is just fine & awesome on the counting! I have a degree in early childhood education/special education and children's speech really progresses at different rates. As long as he is using up to 3 word phrases and is 50% understandable by a stranger,he is doing well!
Avatar f tn I am now in the process of trying to find a psychologist to independently evaluate him in order to receive the special education setting he dearly needs and I am wary of choosing from the very small list I was provided from the school district. My son is on the high functioning side of the spectrum and as a result most people think he is just a willful or disobedient child.
Avatar m tn Today, thanks to MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, it took less than five minutes for the comparison to be drawn between President Obama’s second inaugural address and, well, all manner of things Lincoln. “It reminds me of another second inaugural, Lincoln’s, so much of Lincoln in that speech, from the Gettysburg Address to the second inaugural itself,” Matthews said.

Avatar m tn Part of the problems we are having in this country, I believe, stems from the formal education we have, or don't have. Basically the public education system we have has not changed over the last century, so what changes would you make if you could and if added cost is involved how would you pay for it.
Avatar f tn azalea82 has a good point. An unsafe way to treat his problems is to blindly start giving him stuff. If he has autism, then how he is treated by school personnel, parents, and peers is as important or perhaps more so then what medication he is given. His teacher needs to be given sound advice which should be written into your child's IEP. If he is not in special education, then he needs to be - it is the only thing that can force a teacher to treat him correctly.
Avatar m tn s my understanding that a physician requires even more education when ordering either of these drugs than the usual opiate education. The medical documentation required is even more stringent. Indeed it's now even more difficult to find a physician that will order Buprenorphine. The DEA is breathing down their necks. The following link may help you - though it does talk more about using Buprenorphine for addiction than Chronic Pain.
