My question - does the part of the brain that controls the fine motor skills have anything to do with the part used to make complete sentences?

His use of pronounds and also his semantic/pagmatic language skills. My son also was not interested in joining in at nursery or school unless it was something he wanted to do and it was on his terms.
Avatar n tn while it's possible that it's a normal part of her development, I would be concerned. She most likely needs speech/language therapy. I am surprised that her pediatrician isn't concerned. in the mean time, if she is responding well to flash cards, i would create activities that foster language development. help her learn to put sentences together by modeling and have her repeat you (as you are). Since she does well with flashcards, you may want to look at http://www.speakingofspeech.

Speech language pathologist may evaluate the cognitive and communication skills, neuropsychologist may evaluate other cognitive and behavioral abilities and occupational therapist can assess cognitive skills to do daily activities. Immediate intervention and therapy is the best approach taken by these specialists. It would be nice if you spoke to the treating neurologist about these possibilities. Take care.
325405 tn?1262290178 Although the main issue or area that you would like to have addressed is Speech Language Pathology, the IEP should contain information on your child's interests (eg: music is a great teaching tool), art, dance (whatever) so they can incorporate it into the plan as a strategy. Also what behavioral issues arise during frustration or overstimulation? What will be the strategy to deal with those issues?

293420 tn?1243142938 I think it would be great to have a Speech/Language Impaired forum. There are TONS of parents who post about their toddlers/children having speech and language issues, but they have to post on Parenting Toddlers 1-5. It would be great to have all of the posts in one place and be able to track one another's progress with their children and hear stories from other parents about their S/L impaired children. I'm an SLP and I would LOVE to have a forum for this.
584252 tn?1218223686 She is struggling in school, she is seeing a speech and language therapist to assess her speech they said her speech spoken is within normal perameters for her age but they want to assess her receptive language and understanding so they are going to assess her in school, they also mentioned that she is going into her own world, do you think she could be on the autistic spectrum as she does tick quite a lot of the boxes?

Avatar f tn The other reason why it is important to address speech early on is because having issues with speech can hinder social growth. It is hard to play with friends if you can't communicate with them. At almost 3, she'll be coming out of parrellel play soon and moving onto play with peers. So, I'd take her to a speech specialist and have her assessed. You can also do some mouth exercises--------- turn on music and you two make funny faces and then freeze when you stop the music.
