Avatar f tn Are you referring to stuttering? If so, it might ease your worries to know that both our son and granddaughter stuttered for a few months at about the age of your daughter. I think it has to do with the anxiety of growing up and leaving Mom for short periods of time - as school, sports, other activities, etc.
Avatar f tn Hi! Speech Path here! How old is your son? Is there anyone else in the family that stutters? Did he go through a recent big change (new school, new baby, moved homes)? You may want to ask your pediatrician for a referral for a speech evaluation. Depending on his age, speech may not be a bad idea. Sometimes when more demands are placed upon a child, his capabilities for fluent speech decrease. Extraneous movements could be from stuttering but also from a tic disorder.

Avatar m tn Subjugation of Tormentor - Stammering and its cure Stammering or stuttering as a speech disorder eludes classification either as a disease or as a functional disorder of the speech muscles. It continues to be mystery despite an extensive research conducted over its causation by the medical researchers. In severe cases, stammering torments its victim both mental and physically.
Avatar n tn My 3.5 yr. old son has begun stuttering. For a long time now (about 6 months or so) he's been repeating words, but I haven't been too concerned about this. However, over the last week or so, he struggles to get the first few letters out. For instance, he'll ask "wwwwwhhhere's the dog?". And I've noticed it often involves the "what", "where", and "why" questions. It doesn't happen all the time.
Avatar m tn Hi It's never late for speech therapy. Stuttering is not a disease but a disorders. Conventional therapies wouldn't work, you need a specific system just for stutterers as the mechanical thoughts are not aligned with the speaking system. It involves many mechanical, technical and emotional factors. Even the fear of speaking, or if you are not able to correct your mistakes during your speech, you would need to face all those situations where you should speak.
Avatar f tn Has any one ever come across speech difficulty, either slurred or stuttering speech, along with migraines? I have done research on the subject and have come up with the slurred speech issue with migraines but not stuttering and i'm trying to help my twin with her migraines and speech difficulties from ending her career.
Avatar f tn The kind of stuttering - to be honest, I'm not sure - but I if I remember correctly, I would say both . But I do know that your reaction and response to his speech will affect his stuttering. It's very hard but do try to relax and have faith - if time does not "cure" this problem, then trust your medical professionals to help "solve" this issue in a year or two. This problem is solvable; perhaps not as quickly as you would prefer, but it is a solvable problem.
390140 tn?1219883889 If so did the stuttering resolve eventually or did you have to go off the medication? Did anyone ever seek speech therapy for stuttering related to Abilify, and if you did, was it helpful?
Avatar f tn Yeah, I'll start stuttering and can't stop. I have to stop myself and say it very slowly. Sometimes it feels like my brain is just stuck.
Avatar m tn stuttering; slurred speech; laughing while he is upset; and speaking incomprehensible jibberish. He sometimes starts a sentence then stops in the middle, unable to remember what he was saying. We have an appointment with a pediatric neurologist in October -- the soonest appointment we could get. Anyone have any idea what is going on? Any advice?
Avatar f tn What are the chances of fraternal twin sisters both being diagnosed with Conversion Disorder? I was diagnosed as Bipolar and having Conversion Disorder. It started with hand tremors then stuttering to the point of not being understood. I also have Celiac Disease. My sister has Celiac also but no mental health issues. She started having Partial Complex Seizures. With Celiac you can develop speach problems, tremors, and seizures. I find it hard to believe that both of us would have it.
Avatar n tn My Son who just turned 2 1/2 and was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in March now has a stuttering problem. I noticed he was stuttering slightly prior to his diagnosis. Avatar m tn t mention any speech impediments, like stuttering or lisping, only that his speech was limited to one word responses, and that those responses often made no sense. Is it possible that the boy is uncomfortable with you, and behaves oddly because of it?
Avatar f tn I have speech issues with stuttering, losing train of thought and gibberish spewing from my lips that only my hubby understands. I find it very upsetting and embarrassing to be out in public when this happens. I am being set up to see a speech therapist in the near future and will let you know how much it helps!
Avatar f tn I'm a 35year old woman. Week ago started having difficulty talking, a lot of stuttering, can't remember simple words for items sometimes. Dizziness off and on, persistent migraine, balance off and boyfriend says sometimes walk as if drunk. Went to the ER, had ct scan, mri with and without contrast dye. Everything came back normal. ?? Every day that passes my speech and handwriting becomes worse!
Avatar f tn Four years ago When I was a teenager I was addicted to butane gas and I was a daily user for about 6 months.
486038 tn?1300063367 It became a lot more frequent this week. I'm usually talking and realize that I've just repeated a word four or five time. I have to stop, breathe, and then try to refocus and continue talking. Sometimes I don't realize it until a family member will repeat back to me what I said and then I understand that I've been saying one word over several times. This has happened before, just not in every conversation. This is so frustrating, but I'm trying to learn to handle it.
647350 tn?1228618670 The doctor who I saw (one covering for my GP) told me that my speech was odd to her. It seemed, to her, that I had a 'mouth full of candy' making my speech seem odd. She suggested that I follow up with my neurologist. She also said it could just be due to the fact that she had never seen me before and didn't really know me, but it would be a good idea to have it checked out anyway. Has anyone else ever been told that MS has caused speech disturbances like this?
Avatar f tn Do any of you have slurred speech or nasal sounding quality to your voice from MS?
