Avatar f tn You have what is called an "expressive disorder". It may be what is called apraxia. Needless to say you require an immediate dye contrast MRI and a consultation with a facility that has neurologists available to review your disorder. A teaching hospital is a good place to find this expertise. Yes, something is wrong. It may be serious and it may not be. Sometimes these problems are due to destruction of impingement on a specific area of the brain by a tumor.

Avatar m tn Any time we go on a new medication, there is a risk associated of side effects. Have you been on other medications for GAD? Is there a reason he is making a choice of these two meds? Propranlonol is a beta blocker and used for short term things like social anxiety. Like if you have to do a big presentation or speech and are nervous-- people can take this and it gets them through that. This seems like a very odd choice for generalized anxiety disorder.
Avatar f tn He has not been diagnosed, although they think he has something which is in the spectrum of autism disorder. But does have a speech and language disorder. Avatar n tn My son is 4 and a half years old. He has delayed speech. His sentences are one to three words. His doctor had always said he was perfect. Everything else has developed normally and on time. At age 4, his doctor felt that maybe he fell on the spectrum of Autism because of delayed speech and his behavior. I took him to see a speech pathologist. She said he had receptive/expressive disorder. I took him to a neurologist, and after 15 minutes of observation, he decided that it is Autism.
Avatar m tn ll likely need to see a speech-language pathologist (SLP) to determine exactly which type of speech disorder it is, and it will help with identifying the types of medical conditions you could be dealing with etc. Do you also have difficulty pronouncing words with similar sounds like ir, are and ur ? Hope that helps.......
Avatar n tn My son is 6 years old and seems to have symptoms from all the following disorders, according to his Doctors. ADHD, Aspergers Syndrome, Anxiety Disorder and Defiant Disorder. I can't seem to figure out what is normal behavior verses something else. He doesn't care about learning, following the rules or behaving in a socially acceptable way. He runs around making loud high pitch voices and acting like a 2 year old.
Avatar m tn stuttering; slurred speech; laughing while he is upset; and speaking incomprehensible jibberish. He sometimes starts a sentence then stops in the middle, unable to remember what he was saying. We have an appointment with a pediatric neurologist in October -- the soonest appointment we could get. Anyone have any idea what is going on? Any advice?
Avatar f tn He has average intelligence but in the past 3 years or so he has suffered with depression (suicidal ideation) and anxiety, specifically social anxiety disorder. He is currently on geodin, 60mgs. but the doctor said this is a very difficult illness to treat. I have not had much luck finding out about this and most people i have spoken to have never heard of it. Is this something that gets worse with time and what can I do to help him? Thanks for any information that you can give me!
Avatar n tn He also uses delayed echolalia in his speech. And he has Semantic Pragmatic Speech Disorder. So his speech development is typically autistic. However my son is very affectionate. It is not true that those on the autistic spectrum are unaffectionate. Some don't know how to show affection, others do. My son hugs me and tells me he loves me. Look at the diagnostic criteria, and if you still have concerns I would ask for a referal.
Avatar f tn Check Myesthenia Gravis forum and get some information about it. Those are both symptoms of that disorder, but maybe you can find out more about it. I hope that you are feeling better. Good luck!
Avatar f tn meree55 / have you had a speech evaluation? There are different reasons for articulation problems. Sometimes it is just a speech delay and speech therapy can correct this. Or it could be a oral motor problem related to the sensory system. (my son has sensory integration disorder and was diagnosed at 4). How are the other parts of your son's speech? There is receptive and expressive language that are really important as well.
Avatar f tn My son is 34 months and recently started speech. He says a lot of words and a few phrases "shoes . . wew are you?" but seems to be behind. At his first speech session I asked the speech therapist if she noticed any signs or symptoms beyond speech. She mentioned his hand movements when he gets excited remind her of her autistic clients. She stated that she cannot make any diagnosis regarding autism and after more sessions she can refer him to a specialist if necessary.

Avatar n tn The person he is seeing now thinks he needs to see a child psychiatrist for a medication evaluation. I'd really hate to put him on medication at such a young age, but also if medication would help his behavior and help him with in the social scene then maybe he should be medicated. I just hate to do that. I am a nurse so I know and research all the possible side effects of all these stimulant drugs they like to prescribe children. What do you all think?
