Common Questions and Answers about Speech development word list

speech

Avatar m tn My daughter just turned 3 a few weeks ago. While she typically talks in 4-5 word sentences and displays an average vocabulary, I think she is struggling with some comprehension issues. If asked a question she doesn't know the answer to, she will automatically answer yes as opposed to thinking about it or responding with ''I don't know.'' I think she knows she's supposed to have an answer, but doesn't know what to do when she doesn't get what you are saying.
Avatar f tn He has been seen by a child development doctor. He has had one session of speech therapy, another in a couple of weeks. He has got an appointment with an occupational therapist next week. I received a copy of the letter addressed to my doctor with a report from when I saw the Child development doctor that said he has mild Hypotonia??? My question is does anyone have a child like mine who has or had similar development delays and what was the outcome.
Avatar f tn The educators from the Child Development Center my son goes to (he's 3 years old), suggested I sign him up for Speech Therapy at the local elementary school because his speech is delayed. Apparently, by law, the school has to enroll him for this problem. I don't know if this law is state wide or national, but you may look into a Speech Therapy program at your local Elementary school as well.
20896457 tn?1592763839 With that said, my son has something called sensory processing disorder. Tripping frequently is a sign as is garbled speech. When you do a speech eval, they check the three areas of speech which are articulation (the ability to understand the words she is saying), expressive language (ability to formulate what to say to others) and receptive language (ability to understand and process what is said to her).
Avatar m tn Kel you didn't ask a question, so i going to assume you are wanting to know if what you experience and described, could be MS sx's of speech and swallowing issues? Lack of saliva production, if that is what you experience with your sx of dry mouth, is 'not the same' as the swallowing issues you generally read about in MS, dysphagia is basically to do with the actual muscle and nerve signal etc needed in the action of swallowing.
Avatar n tn He is babbling a lot but no clear word except mamma and da . I have seeked help from Early Childhood Intervension center of Allen in Tx and the therapists said that he is just delayed about six to eight months. They said there are no red flags.
Avatar n tn m not sure where your from so its probably called something different but there should be programs where you are that helps with children speech development they came to your house they will observe your child and then set up appointments depending on how much and what kind of help she needs they come to your home for the appointments so the child is comfortable there is usually no charge depending on your insurance and they will be able to tell you if she needs testing for autism and where you
Avatar m tn He seems to have some reasoning skills when spoken too and makes eye contact. He can quote Kungfu Panda word for word with every expression but thats about it. He also is very obsessive about what he wants and how things ought to be. His motor and fine motor skills are very good and on par or somewhat advanced for his age group. But when researching on intellect i found he acts like a two year old.
Avatar n tn ve tried many things like flash cards (she blazes right through them) and making her repeat one word at a time to make a complete sentence and basically encouraging her to talk as much as possible. But she still mostly grunts, and I've been making her say what she wants and having her say please and thank you, but there's still not much difference. My friend has a two and a half year old and he is talking in full sentences and everything. Am I doing something wrong?
470885 tn?1326329037 , too). He ended up being delayed in his speech, though and, after speech therapy, is just now catching up to his peers. Does anyone know what is "normal" in terms of when a baby should be starting to talk??
Avatar f tn To date, he can only say between 10-15 words, but he babbles all of the time (he will say googoo gaga like a baby). He has been in speech therapy for a year now, and he still only says 10-15 words--the same number as when he started. Some of my concerns are that my son is not speaking more than 15 words, doesn't really answer questions when asked, or vocalize his wants or needs. If we ask him if he is hungry, he will sit there. If i say, "yes, no?
Avatar n tn ll answer yes and no until she gets what she wants but rearly has the word for it, i was told when she was young that she has a sesory disorder, she didnt stop crying from day one until she started to crawl. and now i am concerned about her speech, i live in ukraine now so western style medicine is a bit hard to comeby so i was wondering if this is normal how long should i wait before getting help, is there anything i can do to help her out. she is so frustrated.
Avatar n tn At his 2 yr wellness check my ped. referred him to early intervention for speech delay. His expressive speech was found to be 50% delayed. It was also noted that he had a short attention span, high activity level, and was "sensory seeking". At the time I was working full-time and his behavior was a little off. He would jump on things, get incredibly frustrated, have tantrums, and hit me.
Avatar m tn My elder son is now 3 years and 4 months. His speech development is as slow as a kid who is 18 months to 24 months old. He started speaking 2 to 3 word sentences when he reached 3 years. He can identify pictures of family and relatives. Still he speaks some words which are quite meaningless. He has a few symptoms like slapping his hand on the face or hitting his head on the floor when he gets angry. He has been very interested in TV ads since 6 to 7 months of age.
Avatar f tn You have some form of aphasia, which is where your speech will get confused. You mentioned neuralgia, and pain can cause a person to lose focus. Hopefully you are receiving proper medications to stop your discomfort, because that should help you with your word thing, if that is the cause, and it's the one thing I KNOW will cause aphasia, which I have it from injuries in a car wreck.
Avatar f tn my question is, Can i force them to treat him and help him, i want to know why my son cant talk, he has lots of other developmental problems and has seen consultant peadiatrician at the child development centre but he is now on a huge waiting list for a 8 week long assesment of his development, its so frustrating waiting, is there anything i can do in the meantime to help him, we've tried picture cards of which he also has no understanding, he never points or shows me he wants something, a
Avatar f tn My grandson is two years old and his mother lives in california, his father, my son, lives in Texas. Last year we had my grandson in Texas for 4 months and this year we will have him for 6 months. My question is this: Are these long visits detramental to my grandson? Is this unhealth for him to not see his mother for six months and then not see his father for 6 months? What do you recommend? I am very worried about my grandson's development.
Avatar f tn Of course, this is a natural cause of word finding difficulty. As the brain ages, chemical changes occur and memory abilities can begin to fade. A healthy lifestyle as well as keeping an active mind is your best defense against an aging brain.
Avatar n tn My 32 Months old son can be so sweet and loving one minute and then if he is told to do something he does not want to do he Cry, yell, and throw things (his toys) We notice that other people don’t understand him when he is talking, so we get him speech evaluated, and he will start his speech sessions next week He was attached to his nanny so much (to the limit that he would think she’s his mum) and she had to leave couple of months ago to visit her family, and since then I notice that he would a
