Avatar n tn t think conversationally he is up to par for a four year old. I am thinking of putting him in speech therapy to see if this will help his social and conversating skills. If you ask him questions, most of the time he can answer you. I am just worried and want him to do well in school when he starts in August 2010. Do you think speech therapy will benefit him?
Avatar n tn My two year old will be three in October is still not talking...I mean she can say a few words but not enough to hardly communicate with us. She is the youngest of four. At first I thought maybe we were babying her too much but her doctor wants me to have her tested for Autism. I am worried. I then started noticeing other "signs" from a booklet my dr gave me. She is really attached to her blanket...won't hardly let it out of her sight.
Avatar n tn m not sure where your from so its probably called something different but there should be programs where you are that helps with children speech development they came to your house they will observe your child and then set up appointments depending on how much and what kind of help she needs they come to your home for the appointments so the child is comfortable there is usually no charge depending on your insurance and they will be able to tell you if she needs testing for autism and where you

Avatar n tn My daughter is three and a half years old and she barely talks. She'll say "juice" "thanks" and a bunch of other things and has a few phrases like "what happened?", but she isn't talking in sentences. I've tried many things like flash cards (she blazes right through them) and making her repeat one word at a time to make a complete sentence and basically encouraging her to talk as much as possible.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have a 6 year old soon to be seven and I am running out of options here in brazil. My son doesnt talk and never had. The doctors say he is delayed, but when does the speech stop being delayed? He is a smart boy he understands everything in Two languages of course his portugese is better then his english because he was raised here. I was reading about the wolf- Hirschhorn syndrome..
Avatar n tn This is a comment to a closed discussion, but always relevant. The most effective way to stop a two year old repeating something is simply to repeat it back to them. "Yes darling" is not enough. They need to hear confirmation that what they are saying is correct, as well as the fact that you've heard them correctly.
404138 tn?1308941656 Two year old twins, actually they'll be three i believe in october so their 2 and 1/2 ( a boy and a girl) Ive babysat for arent talking much, they do know some simple words like hi, bye, momma, daddy, ball, water, cat, dog, clock, ears, eye, no (for nose) and they certainly know how to say NO!!!!and they of course know what it means. But thats about it! The boy says much more then the girl does, she babbles alot, talking in baby talk, I have no idea what shes saying.
Avatar n tn my son was diagnosed when he was 1 year old with adhd. now he is 2 years old and is showing several signs of late development especially in speech. does this confirm the diagnosis?
Avatar f tn My two year old son is struggling with behaviors. He can be very violent, choking siblings, knocks chairs over, bites, hits, kicks, screams, throws things, gets into to everything. He is constantly on the go and doesn't stop moving until he falls asleep (litterally). He shows no intrest in the TV as I have tried using the Disney Channel to get him to sit..it didn't work. My son also does not talk other than saying mom and dad. He does not mimic any words nor does he attempt to mimic.
Avatar m tn we dont know whats wrong with our 7 year old. she doesnt understand basic common sense. her teacher told us she has a learning disablitly but we think it goes beyond that. she doesnt understand simple question that we ask her.
Avatar n tn I have a 4 year old daughter and I'm worried that she may have a development problem. She can't focus on one thing for more than a couple of minute and she can't answer a question when asked. Anytime that any adult asks her somthing she only says off the wall things. She has also started being really rude to people but never me. I am worried that I need to get her tested before it gets worse.
Avatar f tn He has been seen by a child development doctor. He has had one session of speech therapy, another in a couple of weeks. He has got an appointment with an occupational therapist next week. I received a copy of the letter addressed to my doctor with a report from when I saw the Child development doctor that said he has mild Hypotonia??? My question is does anyone have a child like mine who has or had similar development delays and what was the outcome.
Avatar f tn Yes, repeated infections can have an impact on hearing. Your son's development of speech/language is definitiely delayed, and this warants evaluation by a Speech/Language therapist. But an audiological evaluation is crucial, because it is possible that the delay in speech is secondary to hearing loss.
1664949 tn?1303075099 My four year old son is always putting things in lines such as his hot wheels, all have to be in same direction. If they are moved or line is broken he will run to the corner and lay on the floor and cry. That is the only abnormal (for lack of better word) thing he freaks out about. Shoes thrown anywhere, toys all over floor, but cars must be organized?
Avatar m tn Your son is showing some delay in the area of speech/language, and this may be in the context of generally sound development overall. If the pace of his speech/language does not pick up some momentum over the next several months it would be prudent to arrange an evaluation with a Speech/Language pathologist and/or arrange an Earli Intervention evaluation.
Avatar f tn My grandson is two years old and his mother lives in california, his father, my son, lives in Texas. Last year we had my grandson in Texas for 4 months and this year we will have him for 6 months. My question is this: Are these long visits detramental to my grandson? Is this unhealth for him to not see his mother for six months and then not see his father for 6 months? What do you recommend? I am very worried about my grandson's development.
Avatar f tn To date, he can only say between 10-15 words, but he babbles all of the time (he will say googoo gaga like a baby). He has been in speech therapy for a year now, and he still only says 10-15 words--the same number as when he started. Some of my concerns are that my son is not speaking more than 15 words, doesn't really answer questions when asked, or vocalize his wants or needs. If we ask him if he is hungry, he will sit there. If i say, "yes, no?
Avatar m tn But when researching on intellect i found he acts like a two year old. I used to get him to count, do some alphabet and name objects and foods but lately he has not done that. Potty training has been very difficult because he doesnt seem to care nor communicate. He has two little sisters (ages 2yrs ,6mnths) but he interacts very little with them. He still gets very excited about being around older children or kids his age especially boys.
Avatar f tn Hello, I have a 4 year old son who is the middle child of a 8 yr old older bro and a 7wk younger bro. I have really noticed since my youngest son was born how misbehaved he is. He currently has a speech development that was diagnosed by a speech therapist and is a bit delayed. He currently is in an early childhood development program offered by our public school. But as he is getting ready to turn 4 next month his behavior has increasingly gotten worse.
