Avatar f tn He has been seen by a child development doctor. He has had one session of speech therapy, another in a couple of weeks. He has got an appointment with an occupational therapist next week. I received a copy of the letter addressed to my doctor with a report from when I saw the Child development doctor that said he has mild Hypotonia??? My question is does anyone have a child like mine who has or had similar development delays and what was the outcome.
Avatar n tn m not sure where your from so its probably called something different but there should be programs where you are that helps with children speech development they came to your house they will observe your child and then set up appointments depending on how much and what kind of help she needs they come to your home for the appointments so the child is comfortable there is usually no charge depending on your insurance and they will be able to tell you if she needs testing for autism and where you
Avatar f tn My 10 year-old son attends private school, will enter 5th grade in Aug. 2009. He is a whiz in math, has been reading chapter books since first grade, loves science and has a phenomenal memory. However, has always and continues to have very time with social skills. Is very immature socially, does not reciprocate well, doesn't share well, makes goofy noises at times, and, literally, does not stop talking, even on medication for ADHD.
Avatar n tn Now is definitely the time to get him into speech therapy and any other therapies that can help him with his various delays in development. It wouldn't hurt for you to look into intervention strategies like ABA or Floortime too, since they help with interacting with socially delayed children whether it is from autism or not. As the grandmother of a 5 year old with autism I can't stress enough how much early intervention has helped.
715552 tn?1229872258 The only way that your son will get a diagnosis is if he is assessed and observed by a multi disciplinary team who have experience and expertise in diagnosing autism and aspergers. You should go to your doctor and request he refers you to the relevant professionals or clinic. Your son will need to have enough characteristics out of each section for him to get a diagnosis. Google DSM IV for Aspergers and see what the criteria is.
Avatar f tn Today, its all about bringing products to market, and compressing drug development timelines is critical to focused product development and commercialization.  Identifying, integrating and implementing cost effective development, regulatory, and quality strategies is a challenge for new firms especially those with biopharmaceutical and combination products.
Avatar m tn My daughter just turned 3 a few weeks ago. While she typically talks in 4-5 word sentences and displays an average vocabulary, I think she is struggling with some comprehension issues. If asked a question she doesn't know the answer to, she will automatically answer yes as opposed to thinking about it or responding with ''I don't know.'' I think she knows she's supposed to have an answer, but doesn't know what to do when she doesn't get what you are saying.
Avatar n tn I have a 4 year old daughter and I'm worried that she may have a development problem. She can't focus on one thing for more than a couple of minute and she can't answer a question when asked. Anytime that any adult asks her somthing she only says off the wall things. She has also started being really rude to people but never me. I am worried that I need to get her tested before it gets worse.
Avatar m tn Your son is showing some delay in the area of speech/language, and this may be in the context of generally sound development overall. If the pace of his speech/language does not pick up some momentum over the next several months it would be prudent to arrange an evaluation with a Speech/Language pathologist and/or arrange an Earli Intervention evaluation.
Avatar n tn In several areas of his development (speech/language, impulse control, social) he is not keeping pace with what would be expected of his age. It would be wise to arrange a developmenatl evaluation. If you live in an area where you have access to a pediatric hospital, particularly a so-called teaching hospital, this should not be difficult to arrange.
Avatar f tn The educators from the Child Development Center my son goes to (he's 3 years old), suggested I sign him up for Speech Therapy at the local elementary school because his speech is delayed. Apparently, by law, the school has to enroll him for this problem. I don't know if this law is state wide or national, but you may look into a Speech Therapy program at your local Elementary school as well.
Avatar n tn It sounds like your child’s language skills are within normal limits, but I would encourage you to express your concerns to your pediatrician who will be able to do a more complete assessment of your child’s development.
Avatar f tn Yes, repeated infections can have an impact on hearing. Your son's development of speech/language is definitiely delayed, and this warants evaluation by a Speech/Language therapist. But an audiological evaluation is crucial, because it is possible that the delay in speech is secondary to hearing loss.
Avatar n tn He complained of headaches, had slurred speech at times and a constant tongue throbbing thing for about 2 weeks during that time frame. Is it possible that this abscess may have been developing and causing his odd impulsive behavior then already. he is facing a 5 year felony charge for a stupid stupid action and for the massive area of the left frontal lobe that was compromised i cannot imagine that it could not be considered a factor in his behavior.
Avatar f tn , a big part of the question they had was about delayed speech) and I found a website (below) at the National Institutes of Health that has a section on typical speech and language development. It includes checklists that help you determine if your child is “on track” with communication development as well as definitions and some explanations of potential speech and language developmental problems and what to do about them.
Avatar n tn I don't believe speech therapy is necessary for him, he may just be a quieter type of child who takes in alot from his environment, which isn't such a bad thing. For now, just do as you would normally and keep communicating with him. Encourage him to communicate with others aswell, which i'm sure you already do. I myself was a real quiet kid and wouldn't speak to anyone and was extremely shy, i just wanted to do my own thing and was happy to do so.
594330 tn?1219167188 I am worried sick about his lack of comprehension and am looking for answers. Today I had a child development specialist and a speech pathologist observe him and thespeech pathologist said she was more concerned with his lack of command following than use of the language. I don't know if maybe there are things I can try to do or change to help him reach this level of cognitve and communitive development.
Avatar f tn My granddaughter is 3 yrs., 9 mos. She is still not potty trained despite consistency in putting her on the potty. She screams and covers her ears when you mention it's time to go on the potty. She also does not seem to know how to interact with other children. She will say hi to them, but if asked a question, doesn't answer or moves to something else. Her speech is fine, she just doesn't use it much If I ask her what she did at the playground, I get no response.
Avatar m tn Hello. I have a 3 year old son with autism and although every child with autism is different, comparing your son to my son, I see a few similarities but nothing so severe as the behaviors my son had at that age. It could be that he has some developmental delays, or maybe some sensory processing delays. I would definitely speak to the pediatrician about all the things you have noticed.
Avatar m tn Loss of balance, dificulty in writing and speech increased graduly for first week. As per doctor this is a POST VIRAL CEREBRAL SYNDROME. On 16 th may 08 I had a very mild fever (100 deg F) for 2 days which improved without any medication. I was started with oral MPS but there was no improvement, rather difficulties increased. Then I was given IVMPS( Methylprednisolone Sodium Succinate - 1 gm) daily for 5 days. After 5 doses condition started improving.
Avatar f tn To date, he can only say between 10-15 words, but he babbles all of the time (he will say googoo gaga like a baby). He has been in speech therapy for a year now, and he still only says 10-15 words--the same number as when he started. Some of my concerns are that my son is not speaking more than 15 words, doesn't really answer questions when asked, or vocalize his wants or needs. If we ask him if he is hungry, he will sit there. If i say, "yes, no?
Avatar m tn at first they were about to stop the development of the drug but then choose to use on humans since lung cancer happened only on rats and not monkeys the drug was approved with special monitoring for cancer, the bad point is cancer can take decades to develop to detectable.....
