Avatar f tn He has been seen by a child development doctor. He has had one session of speech therapy, another in a couple of weeks. He has got an appointment with an occupational therapist next week. I received a copy of the letter addressed to my doctor with a report from when I saw the Child development doctor that said he has mild Hypotonia??? My question is does anyone have a child like mine who has or had similar development delays and what was the outcome.

He is 4 yr old but V.M S is that of a 2 yr & 6 months' child. Can speak only two simple words together . He does not mix with other children in preschool( where he goes for last one month) may be because unable to speak much { he siarted speaking at age of 3 yrs} ;Does he need a special tutor ? Or parents should be encoureged to get involved in interacting and stimulating his skills and speech.
Avatar f tn He does not mimic any words nor does he attempt to mimic. He has been receiving speech therapy for 6 months and still has not said a word. There are two older siblings who both started talking at age 1 (they do not talk for him) and a younger sibling who currently says more words than he does. He has recently begun eating paper. He is terified of loud noises (vacuum, trucks, motorcycles, cars, sirens..
Avatar m tn My daughter just turned 3 a few weeks ago. While she typically talks in 4-5 word sentences and displays an average vocabulary, I think she is struggling with some comprehension issues. If asked a question she doesn't know the answer to, she will automatically answer yes as opposed to thinking about it or responding with ''I don't know.'' I think she knows she's supposed to have an answer, but doesn't know what to do when she doesn't get what you are saying.
168006 tn?1241012961 So I am reading the comments and noticed something. All of you have sons that have this speech regression or speech issue. Is it more prominent in boys? I know that boys' speech development is usually later than girls. My 20-month old daughter says quite a bit and repeats everything we say, or tries to. But I have a nephew who is 4 months older than her and he says a few things but mostly grunts. So just wondering if this is predominantly a boy thing?
500419 tn?1220124743 I took him to an ENT because I thought it was because of his hearing Well to make a long story short.
Avatar n tn I have a 4 year old daughter and I'm worried that she may have a development problem. She can't focus on one thing for more than a couple of minute and she can't answer a question when asked. Anytime that any adult asks her somthing she only says off the wall things. She has also started being really rude to people but never me. I am worried that I need to get her tested before it gets worse.
Avatar m tn Your son is showing some delay in the area of speech/language, and this may be in the context of generally sound development overall. If the pace of his speech/language does not pick up some momentum over the next several months it would be prudent to arrange an evaluation with a Speech/Language pathologist and/or arrange an Earli Intervention evaluation.
Avatar n tn In several areas of his development (speech/language, impulse control, social) he is not keeping pace with what would be expected of his age. It would be wise to arrange a developmenatl evaluation. If you live in an area where you have access to a pediatric hospital, particularly a so-called teaching hospital, this should not be difficult to arrange.
Avatar f tn The educators from the Child Development Center my son goes to (he's 3 years old), suggested I sign him up for Speech Therapy at the local elementary school because his speech is delayed. Apparently, by law, the school has to enroll him for this problem. I don't know if this law is state wide or national, but you may look into a Speech Therapy program at your local Elementary school as well.
460185 tn?1326077772 I heard that President Obama's acceptance speech was really good. Does anyone know if it is being shown on the internet or YouTube; unfortunately, I didn't hear the speech but would like to.
304970 tn?1331425994 Delayed testing/diagnosis can, as you know, contribute to difficulties reversing developmental delays and symptoms of autism, but delayed speech can very often correct itself. and it is true that some babies are more physical than verbal, and some vice versa. my daughter didn't walk until a week after her first birthday, but at 2 years she can speak in 6-word sentences and can draw faces and numbers and letters, and she's learning to color in the lines....
Avatar f tn Yes, repeated infections can have an impact on hearing. Your son's development of speech/language is definitiely delayed, and this warants evaluation by a Speech/Language therapist. But an audiological evaluation is crucial, because it is possible that the delay in speech is secondary to hearing loss.
Avatar n tn He is currently in speech therapy 3 times a week. He likes to stare at my chandelier and spin around. I saw a development specialist and she said that he is showing signs of austism. and No one can tell me what causes it? What can I do? and where do I stand? Somoene should be able to tell me why my son was talking at 15-18 months and suddenlly stopped?
Avatar n tn He complained of headaches, had slurred speech at times and a constant tongue throbbing thing for about 2 weeks during that time frame. Is it possible that this abscess may have been developing and causing his odd impulsive behavior then already. he is facing a 5 year felony charge for a stupid stupid action and for the massive area of the left frontal lobe that was compromised i cannot imagine that it could not be considered a factor in his behavior.
Avatar f tn , a big part of the question they had was about delayed speech) and I found a website (below) at the National Institutes of Health that has a section on typical speech and language development. It includes checklists that help you determine if your child is “on track” with communication development as well as definitions and some explanations of potential speech and language developmental problems and what to do about them.
Avatar n tn I don't believe speech therapy is necessary for him, he may just be a quieter type of child who takes in alot from his environment, which isn't such a bad thing. For now, just do as you would normally and keep communicating with him. Encourage him to communicate with others aswell, which i'm sure you already do. I myself was a real quiet kid and wouldn't speak to anyone and was extremely shy, i just wanted to do my own thing and was happy to do so.
594330 tn?1219167188 I am worried sick about his lack of comprehension and am looking for answers. Today I had a child development specialist and a speech pathologist observe him and thespeech pathologist said she was more concerned with his lack of command following than use of the language. I don't know if maybe there are things I can try to do or change to help him reach this level of cognitve and communitive development.
Avatar f tn My granddaughter is 3 yrs., 9 mos. She is still not potty trained despite consistency in putting her on the potty. She screams and covers her ears when you mention it's time to go on the potty. She also does not seem to know how to interact with other children. She will say hi to them, but if asked a question, doesn't answer or moves to something else. Her speech is fine, she just doesn't use it much If I ask her what she did at the playground, I get no response.
Avatar f tn We have taken her to her paediatrician who has diagnosed her with global development delay which our 2 year old also has. It seems to me to be more than just GDD. Is it possible that it could be something to do with her muscles? He has sent us to a geneticist for testing, but its a very long wait and i'd like to help my daughter as much as i can in the meantime.
