Avatar n tn I have a 4 1/2 year old boy whom I keep in Childcare. He can follow 2 directions at a time when we are doing it for learning. Has trouble w/ 3 directions--have to repeat or tell him again. Also has trouble w/ comprehension. I will ask him a question:i.e....did you wash your hands...and he will give me a look like he doesnt' understand the question and say, "uh...".
Avatar n tn t think conversationally he is up to par for a four year old. I am thinking of putting him in speech therapy to see if this will help his social and conversating skills. If you ask him questions, most of the time he can answer you. I am just worried and want him to do well in school when he starts in August 2010. Do you think speech therapy will benefit him?
594330 tn?1219167188 My son will be 2 years old next month and uses very little language, approximately 12-15 words. He gets what he needs by pulling me to things and pointing or crying at the sink for water. He doesn't respond to things that I think he should be doing by now, llike "Go get me the ball" or any commands beyond "come here" or "no" . I am worried sick about his lack of comprehension and am looking for answers.

Avatar f tn Hello, my 4 year old niece has speech delays, we believe she is on the low to mid spectrum of autism. She has recently began speaking a handful of words, no sentences. #1. Remain calm and upbeat, as hard as it is don't show him your worried, as he doesn't realize why your worried only knows/feels that mommy is upset. #2. Try not to jump to conclusions, some kids speech is delayed and by time they are 5 seem to catch up on there own or with help from speech therapy.
Avatar f tn I'm a mother of a very healthy 2 1/2 year boy... Avatar f tn hi, I have a 17 months old daughter and she could only speak, Mama, Papa and Baba. Her new born screening was fine , my husband and I have normal language/verbal development. She understands what we tell her, she knows and points where the moon or the stars are, or get her slippers or eat her food. She loves to play with children. Does she just have delayed development? What are the things that I may do at home to improve her verbal development?
Avatar n tn The rapid mood swings are typical of what I saw in both my boys and in other normal 2 year old children we play with. The question is does he have the behavior problems (biting hitting etc) in all situations or is he normally better with someone in particular. I've discovered my 2 year old never hits or bites at preschool but at home he feels its a way to get my attention when I'm working with my other child or he does it when he doesn't get his way with his brother.
Avatar f tn He has been seen by a child development doctor. He has had one session of speech therapy, another in a couple of weeks. He has got an appointment with an occupational therapist next week. I received a copy of the letter addressed to my doctor with a report from when I saw the Child development doctor that said he has mild Hypotonia??? My question is does anyone have a child like mine who has or had similar development delays and what was the outcome.
Avatar f tn hi, my 2 1/2 yr old son has been diagnosed with global development delay but i think theres more to it. he has been seen by a peadiatric doctor, physiotherapist, O.T., social worker, speech and language therapist, health visitor and gp. i have looked into global development delay and think theres much more wrong with him.
Avatar f tn My 2 year old grandson is speech delayed but we are concerned about autism. He tries to say @ 50 words, but not clearly. Recently, he has started to point at things of interest and will point when asked at certain pictures in books. He smiles at others. He understands and obeys simple commands. He sometimes, but not always responds to his name . He bites and head bangs occasionally. He shows interest in other kids, makes good eye contact with his mother but not so much with others.
Avatar n tn I have a healthy 5 1/2 year old son who just started kindergarted about a week ago. 2 days ago we noticed he was repeating himself in a whisper. It seems to get worse when he is upset. Avatar n tn I have a 4 year old daughter and I'm worried that she may have a development problem. She can't focus on one thing for more than a couple of minute and she can't answer a question when asked. Anytime that any adult asks her somthing she only says off the wall things. She has also started being really rude to people but never me. I am worried that I need to get her tested before it gets worse.
Avatar n tn My son is four years old. He is very intelligent for his age. He can do things (academically) that most boys and girls his age can't do. My problem is that he has this obsession with strings lately. He spots them, picks them up and plays with it. He will get any kind from sofas, clothes, the floor. I have a cousin who has a son who does this and well he has Autism Spectrum Disorder. I am scared that my son may have this.
Avatar f tn Yes, repeated infections can have an impact on hearing. Your son's development of speech/language is definitiely delayed, and this warants evaluation by a Speech/Language therapist. But an audiological evaluation is crucial, because it is possible that the delay in speech is secondary to hearing loss.
1664949 tn?1303075099 He could have apraxia of speech, it's a speech delay where the child has trouble with motor movement. This causes frustration for kids because they know what they want to say, but cannot get the words out. My daughter who has apraxia acts a lot like this. It might be worth looking into.
Avatar m tn Your son is showing some delay in the area of speech/language, and this may be in the context of generally sound development overall. If the pace of his speech/language does not pick up some momentum over the next several months it would be prudent to arrange an evaluation with a Speech/Language pathologist and/or arrange an Earli Intervention evaluation.
