Avatar n tn He is still within the growth chart which is good. Some children need to learn how to swallow and chew or needs help with textured foods. That would not be a reflection on your parenting. Some children just do not know how to do it and need to be taught which takes time and patience. They need to learn how to chew and swallow food properly; it is not really an instinct behavior like sucking. The most important thing is to RELAX at meals.
Avatar f tn ) Certainly some of the behaviors that you describe may or may not be indicative of the early signs of an ASD (remember that, particularly at a very young age, there is quite a bit of variability in growth and development). Based on what you describe, however, I would not say that you are being “over concerned.” Below are several websites with information about ASD. You may find it helpful to review these sites to see if you think you need to take your son in for further assessment.
Avatar f tn First, as long as a child is growing along their growth chart, no need to be concerned. That means that the little one IS growing. My second child was a small guy and still is to a certain extent. But he is not concerning to his pedatrician because he grows steadily. Just slowly. How is your son's motor development? Is he on target for his milestones? How is his speech? So, I'd ask specific questions about his weight at his next drs. or health visit.
Avatar n tn m not sure where your from so its probably called something different but there should be programs where you are that helps with children speech development they came to your house they will observe your child and then set up appointments depending on how much and what kind of help she needs they come to your home for the appointments so the child is comfortable there is usually no charge depending on your insurance and they will be able to tell you if she needs testing for autism and where you

Avatar f tn He has been seen by a child development doctor. He has had one session of speech therapy, another in a couple of weeks. He has got an appointment with an occupational therapist next week. I received a copy of the letter addressed to my doctor with a report from when I saw the Child development doctor that said he has mild Hypotonia??? My question is does anyone have a child like mine who has or had similar development delays and what was the outcome.
503141 tn?1210297892 Hi How old is your son? Does he have any delayed milestone development? In clinical studies conducted, it has been shoen that white matter myelination is an indicator of functional brain maturation. There is a chance of delayed acquisition of developmental motor and cognitive milestones incase of reduction in brain myelination. Your son is probably having a combination of demyelinating neuropathy.
Avatar f tn Yes, it does appear that yuor daughter is displaying some developmental lags. A prudent approach would be to arrange an evaluation with a Developmental Pediatrician.
Avatar f tn Thats sounds normal. Check this growth chart out, according to it your baby is right on point. Im 35 weeks and my baby has been spot on with that chart. http://www.babyyourbaby.org/pregnancy/during-pregnancy/fetal-chart.
Avatar f tn Most ftm don't show till later on.
Avatar m tn My daughter just turned 3 a few weeks ago. While she typically talks in 4-5 word sentences and displays an average vocabulary, I think she is struggling with some comprehension issues. If asked a question she doesn't know the answer to, she will automatically answer yes as opposed to thinking about it or responding with ''I don't know.'' I think she knows she's supposed to have an answer, but doesn't know what to do when she doesn't get what you are saying.
Avatar f tn What could be another possible growth disorder (not Failure to Thrive)for a 10 month old who is very skinny and below average height?
Avatar n tn I have a 4 year old daughter and I'm worried that she may have a development problem. She can't focus on one thing for more than a couple of minute and she can't answer a question when asked. Anytime that any adult asks her somthing she only says off the wall things. She has also started being really rude to people but never me. I am worried that I need to get her tested before it gets worse.
Avatar m tn Your son is showing some delay in the area of speech/language, and this may be in the context of generally sound development overall. If the pace of his speech/language does not pick up some momentum over the next several months it would be prudent to arrange an evaluation with a Speech/Language pathologist and/or arrange an Earli Intervention evaluation.
Avatar n tn In several areas of his development (speech/language, impulse control, social) he is not keeping pace with what would be expected of his age. It would be wise to arrange a developmenatl evaluation. If you live in an area where you have access to a pediatric hospital, particularly a so-called teaching hospital, this should not be difficult to arrange.
Avatar m tn Malabsorption during teens/puberty can arrest overall growth—height, frame, body structure, gonadal development etc. Hence, a person may have less prominent frame—including facial frame. However, if a small frame runs in families, then this can also be a contributing factor. Another possibility is vitamin D deficiency, or a bone disease. It would be best if you could get a doctor to examine you and see whether you need investigations. Take care!
Avatar f tn The educators from the Child Development Center my son goes to (he's 3 years old), suggested I sign him up for Speech Therapy at the local elementary school because his speech is delayed. Apparently, by law, the school has to enroll him for this problem. I don't know if this law is state wide or national, but you may look into a Speech Therapy program at your local Elementary school as well.
659850 tn?1314743463 sweetangel, I adore you! LOL! You always make me laugh aloud. Definitely not a stupid question either!
Avatar f tn Yes, repeated infections can have an impact on hearing. Your son's development of speech/language is definitiely delayed, and this warants evaluation by a Speech/Language therapist. But an audiological evaluation is crucial, because it is possible that the delay in speech is secondary to hearing loss.
Avatar n tn He complained of headaches, had slurred speech at times and a constant tongue throbbing thing for about 2 weeks during that time frame. Is it possible that this abscess may have been developing and causing his odd impulsive behavior then already. he is facing a 5 year felony charge for a stupid stupid action and for the massive area of the left frontal lobe that was compromised i cannot imagine that it could not be considered a factor in his behavior.
Avatar m tn Puberty occurs in two separate stages, genital (penis and testicle) development and pubic hair development. We number each of these stages 1-5, 1 being child and 5 being adult. That means 2-3-4 are the stages of puberty. Depending on your development, a number is assigned to genital development (G) and a number is assigned to pubic hair development (P). For example, if you have just started growing hair you might be stage P2. It's possible to be P2 and still be G1.
Avatar f tn He could be going through a growth spurt. Has he put on much height lately? He could just have a metabolism that is fast - his motor is always running and he burns up the carbs. It could be ADHD or ADHD medication related - is that why you posted on this forum?
