Avatar f tn He has been seen by a child development doctor. He has had one session of speech therapy, another in a couple of weeks. He has got an appointment with an occupational therapist next week. I received a copy of the letter addressed to my doctor with a report from when I saw the Child development doctor that said he has mild Hypotonia??? My question is does anyone have a child like mine who has or had similar development delays and what was the outcome.
193609 tn?1292180293 Anyways, this ENT was the second doctor that told us Ashtyn needs speech therapy immediatly. He sent a referral to one of the best speech pathologists in the state.....and they called me back and told me my insurance does not cover ANY speech therapy and that he will need to get speech therapy through the local school district. My son is part of Early ON of Michigan and has other therapists through the ISD, and is waiting on an eval from a speech therapist there.
Avatar m tn My daughter just turned 3 a few weeks ago. While she typically talks in 4-5 word sentences and displays an average vocabulary, I think she is struggling with some comprehension issues. If asked a question she doesn't know the answer to, she will automatically answer yes as opposed to thinking about it or responding with ''I don't know.'' I think she knows she's supposed to have an answer, but doesn't know what to do when she doesn't get what you are saying.
Avatar n tn I have a 4 year old daughter and I'm worried that she may have a development problem. She can't focus on one thing for more than a couple of minute and she can't answer a question when asked. Anytime that any adult asks her somthing she only says off the wall things. She has also started being really rude to people but never me. I am worried that I need to get her tested before it gets worse.
Avatar m tn Your son is showing some delay in the area of speech/language, and this may be in the context of generally sound development overall. If the pace of his speech/language does not pick up some momentum over the next several months it would be prudent to arrange an evaluation with a Speech/Language pathologist and/or arrange an Earli Intervention evaluation.
Avatar n tn In several areas of his development (speech/language, impulse control, social) he is not keeping pace with what would be expected of his age. It would be wise to arrange a developmenatl evaluation. If you live in an area where you have access to a pediatric hospital, particularly a so-called teaching hospital, this should not be difficult to arrange.
Avatar f tn The educators from the Child Development Center my son goes to (he's 3 years old), suggested I sign him up for Speech Therapy at the local elementary school because his speech is delayed. Apparently, by law, the school has to enroll him for this problem. I don't know if this law is state wide or national, but you may look into a Speech Therapy program at your local Elementary school as well.
Avatar f tn Yes, repeated infections can have an impact on hearing. Your son's development of speech/language is definitiely delayed, and this warants evaluation by a Speech/Language therapist. But an audiological evaluation is crucial, because it is possible that the delay in speech is secondary to hearing loss.
325405 tn?1262290178 What types of things would you write on an IEP for developmental preschool for speech delay and sensory integration issues? (speech delay most likely caused by auditory processing problems/sensory integration). Daughter gets evaluated by the school system in a couple weeks and then the IEP meeting is the following week. Her Birth to 3 therapist is going to attend the meeting with me.

Avatar n tn He complained of headaches, had slurred speech at times and a constant tongue throbbing thing for about 2 weeks during that time frame. Is it possible that this abscess may have been developing and causing his odd impulsive behavior then already. he is facing a 5 year felony charge for a stupid stupid action and for the massive area of the left frontal lobe that was compromised i cannot imagine that it could not be considered a factor in his behavior.
Avatar f tn , a big part of the question they had was about delayed speech) and I found a website (below) at the National Institutes of Health that has a section on typical speech and language development. It includes checklists that help you determine if your child is “on track” with communication development as well as definitions and some explanations of potential speech and language developmental problems and what to do about them.
Avatar n tn I don't believe speech therapy is necessary for him, he may just be a quieter type of child who takes in alot from his environment, which isn't such a bad thing. For now, just do as you would normally and keep communicating with him. Encourage him to communicate with others aswell, which i'm sure you already do. I myself was a real quiet kid and wouldn't speak to anyone and was extremely shy, i just wanted to do my own thing and was happy to do so.
594330 tn?1219167188 I am worried sick about his lack of comprehension and am looking for answers. Today I had a child development specialist and a speech pathologist observe him and thespeech pathologist said she was more concerned with his lack of command following than use of the language. I don't know if maybe there are things I can try to do or change to help him reach this level of cognitve and communitive development.
Avatar f tn My granddaughter is 3 yrs., 9 mos. She is still not potty trained despite consistency in putting her on the potty. She screams and covers her ears when you mention it's time to go on the potty. She also does not seem to know how to interact with other children. She will say hi to them, but if asked a question, doesn't answer or moves to something else. Her speech is fine, she just doesn't use it much If I ask her what she did at the playground, I get no response.
Avatar f tn What are some goals u guys think a young (20) 1st time mom should want to accomplish? Other than being a good mother of course.... Like school, work, personal life goals... My life kinda seems to be at a stand still since my baby girl isn't here yet so I'm trying to get a list of goals.
Avatar m tn Hello. I have a 3 year old son with autism and although every child with autism is different, comparing your son to my son, I see a few similarities but nothing so severe as the behaviors my son had at that age. It could be that he has some developmental delays, or maybe some sensory processing delays. I would definitely speak to the pediatrician about all the things you have noticed.
Avatar f tn To date, he can only say between 10-15 words, but he babbles all of the time (he will say googoo gaga like a baby). He has been in speech therapy for a year now, and he still only says 10-15 words--the same number as when he started. Some of my concerns are that my son is not speaking more than 15 words, doesn't really answer questions when asked, or vocalize his wants or needs. If we ask him if he is hungry, he will sit there. If i say, "yes, no?
