Common Questions and Answers about Sore throat and viral infection

throat

Avatar m tn One week after the encounter, I developed a sore throat with white spots on the back of my throat and tonsils. I ran a slight fever, and my throat became swollen for the next couple of days. I seen two different doctors during this viral infection and both called it a case of pharyngitis and I was given some steroids to help with the inflammation. The infection completely cleared in one week. My question is if I could have contracted oral herpes from the girl?
Avatar f tn The symptoms described could be due to a throat infection, most probably streptococcal or a viral infection. Strep sore throat needs to be treated with an antibiotic as strep is a bacteria. Viral sore throat is best treated with rest, warm oral fluids and (OTC) tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for pain.
Avatar n tn I also failed to mention that I also had a sore throat(lasting 15 minutes), which comes and goes during this ill period. I also had a recurring soar throat during the year... maybe twice which seemed to only last about twenty minutes. Recently, I had a lot of clear white mucos in my throat that may have lasted a good month or month and a half. I appreciate your help in answering other people's questions as well as mine.

Avatar f tn He tested me for strep and found that it was not that, and my lymph nodes are not swollen for it to be mono. He said it was a viral infection that should last about three to four days. Anyway, the next day, I performed oral sex on my boyfriend. The day after that, I realized the infection had gotten even worse (at least to me). Could this have exacerbated the problem? Also, could this be something serious for me? Thank you all!

Avatar n tn I had what appeared to be a bad sinus infection for a couple of weeks, thick green mucus from the nose and thick green plugs coming up in my throat. All of that has dissappeared, and now I am left with a sore place in my throat on the right down low. I also have a little coughing with this sometimes. I went to the doctor, and she said she thought it was viral. That was on Friday. It is now Tuesday and there has been no change. It hurts to swallow, gets worse at night.
Avatar m tn Besides this Group B Streptococcus, mycoplasma, neisseria and cornybacterium are known to cause throat infections. Other known pathogens causing infections of the throat are viral and yeast (candida). The reason for elaborating about these pathogens is that the tests done and the therapy initiated vary for the listed pathogens. To begin with a throat swab is taken to see for streptococcus.
Avatar n tn I have had influenza since Mon. February 19th. I didn't go to the Dr. because I had a flu shot, so instead, on Thursday, went to a Minute Clinic and had a throat culture. Throat culture was negative. My throat is SO SORE, it makes me crazy. On Sat. I woke up and couldn't open my right eye. It was caked shut. I spent the day wiping it with warm cloths, etc. On Sunday went to Urgent Care and I had Pink Eye.
Avatar f tn Exactly a week ago a came up with a severe swollen and sore throat and was rapid tested for strep which came back negative. My throat was not very red, mostly swollen, and did not have white spots. I believe the infection was viral, though this wasn't tested. It cleared up in 3-4 days, now 7 days later it is still a little sore but better. Once my throat started to improve my nose became more congested as well as pressure in my ears with green/yellow snot and sometimes blood.
Avatar n tn Sore throat may be caused by viral or bacterial infection. Viral infection usually resolves on its own but may recur whenever you are exposed to a virus especially if your immune system is weakened. On the other hand, bacterial cause may warrant an antibiotic treatment. Warm saline gargle and antibacterial lozenges may help provide relief. If it persists or recurs, it is best that you have this checked by your doctor or an ENT for proper evaluation.
Avatar n tn Hi, I had a bacterial throat infection: including sore throat, fever, headache and body aches.....This was before x-mas, I was given Augmentin, which pretty much cleared it up, except my cough and congestion.... After x-mas The cough got worse and fevers, tongue ulcers and head and body aches came again, my Dr. said this time it's viral, so it would have run its coarse, it's been almost a month and still hasn't cleared up at all.
