Common Questions and Answers about Sore throat and kidney infection

throat

Avatar m tn Hi there, Streptococcal B infection can cause urinary tract infections and throat infections both. Since you had throat infection followed by urine infection it could possibly be streptococcal infection. Strep throat is diagnosed by culturing the bacteria from a throat swab. In kidney disease is suspected, a urinalysis will show blood or protein in the urine, and bacteria may be cultured from either the blood or urine. Infection responds to antibiotics. Consult your doctor. Hope it helps.
Avatar n tn The first thing to be ruled out is a streptococcal infection, affecting the throat and kidney. This could cause sore throat along with kidney infection and pain in lower back. The other thing to be ruled out is pelvic inflammatory disease. It could also be due to pinched spinal nerves in the lumbar area. First consult an ENT specialist and rule out streptococcal infection of the throat. Then if this is positive, kidney function and status will have to be assessed by blood tests and ultrasounds.
Avatar f tn How are you? The usual cause of sore throat are viruses and bacteria. However, allergies, dryness, muscle strain (throat), pollutants and irritants such as tobacco, spicy food AND alcohol also cause sore throat. This is because irritants such as alcohol causes inflammation of your throat. It is always good to seek medical help to for proper evaluation and to identify the cause of sore throat.

Avatar m tn So I went to get checked and see what was going on and they thought it was a kidney stone. So they took an x-ray and took blood and there was no sign of anything and they said the stone could be so small it's not seen in the x-ray. And there was also no bacteria in my urine. Yesterday I felt around my inner thighs, right above my groin area and both sides felt swollen. The left side a little higher than the right. What could be going on?
Avatar f tn 3 weeks ago my family returned from vacation, my husband, daughter and I ended up on z-pack for Laryngitis, sore throat and chest congestion. My son was treated for strep throat(his rapid strep test was negative but he had pus on his tonsils, fever, and very bad sore throat). I also had twinges of nausea. About a week later I got up to go to work(I am an RN) and although I was OK the day before I was very dizzy, short of breath and hypotensive. I stayed home the next day as well.
2075737 tn?1379447682 Yesterday I woke up with a terrible sore throat and ear ache (everytime I get a bad sore throat my ears hurt too) and it lasted alll day and I still have it but now I have a white coated tongue. I think it may be strep throat. But its a damn Saturday and my dr isn't open. My next appointment isn't until Wednesday. Should I wait and try to be seen Monday or is this something that I should go to the hospital for?
Avatar n tn Hi This may be a case of bacterial skin infection as in the case of Staphylococcus or streptococcal skin infection. It is important to note if you have had previous history of recurrent sore throat that was not treated completely. Any previous history of kidney infections should also be noted. You may need a urinalysis and urine culture for this. Serum BUN and creatinine may also be determined if a history of sore throat is prominent.
Avatar f tn I had a kidney infection at 12 weeks and had the same problem and ended up passing 2 kidney stones. I'd talk to your Dr about it for sure.
Avatar f tn They took blood and urine samples and diagnosed a kidney infection, despite the fact I had not had kidney pain - although some slight genital ache and need to urinate urgently. Prescribed 10 day Ciprofloxacin antibiotics which I finished. Mild ache in kidneys only started once I started taking the antibiotics. Doctor took another urine sample after I'd finished the course and told me the infection was gone.
Avatar m tn Would having an infection for so long make me feel crummy, because for like the whole summer I felt very lazy and sore, didnt feel myself and had a sore throat, and pretty much just not my active self? Would this be associated with a bladder/kidney infection. Thanks a million.
Avatar m tn I had an oral intercourse and the next day I experienced a sore throat and high fever with intense headache at night though the fever was gone in the morning but still I went to see a doctor for a throat checkup The sore throat lasted for three days as I am taking some medicine the doctor prescribed me. Is there any relevant cause of the high fever, severe headache and sore throat with the oral intercourse I have had? Is this a sign or symptom of being "infected" of HIV?
Avatar f tn I went to the doctor about ten weeks ago with a very sore throat and was given a course of antibiotics, Ranclav 1g once a day for five days. By the time the meds were finished (friday) my throat was better, but I'd developed diarhoea (bright yellow) my stomach was swollen, all my intestines felt bruised, I was deathly tired, couldn't keep my head up or stay awake and I had cold shivers.
Avatar f tn Im 14w and felt sore throat this morning. Lozenges are ok according to my doctor, and just drink lots of hot tea with lemon and honey.
Avatar n tn Your symptoms are unlikely to be due to the cyst. It could most probably be tonsillitis and a throat infection. Throat pain, difficulty swallowing, fever, scratchiness in the throat, post nasal drip, malaise and loss of appetite are symptoms of tonsillitis. It can be caused by bacteria like streptococcus or it could be a viral infection. Bacterial infections need antibiotics.
Avatar n tn I would suggest that you see an MD for your sore throat and an oral surgeon for the white spots on your throat.
Avatar f tn Having an untreated infection to on is dangerous for you and your baby. It can cause you to have a kidney infection and go septic (which is when the infection gets so bad it goes into your blood stream). Take the meds and you'll be fine!

Avatar n tn But possibility of urine infection and gut infection should be ruled out. Kidney stone is another possibility. Please consult your PCP for primary examination and treatment. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
Avatar m tn also called Gastroesophageal reflux disease (or GERD) in which acid flows up from the stomach into the throat. That can cause a sore throat and cough and is a treatable condition. You might want to ask your doctor about that possibility.
Avatar f tn Since you have swollen throat, pressure in kidney areas while urinating, and low back ache, the first thing to be rule out is streptococcal infection. These bacteria can affect both throat and kidney at the same time (though usually kidney is affected 1-2 weeks later) and if left untreated can be dangerous. Please consult a doctor immediately. You need a throat swab and urine examination and maybe culture of the urine to start with. Take care!
Avatar n tn When performing oral sex on my girlfriend I seem to quickly develop a sore throat, which lasts for a few days to a week. Within hours I get sinus blocking then lots of green goobers from my throat the next day and if unlucky cold like symptoms for a day or three before it clears up, I jut take throat sweets and flu remedies. Having been together for many months I choose to avoid giving oral pleasure.
Avatar n tn Hello, A raised ASO titre indicates recent or past streptococcal throat infection, mostly throat infection. If your son had recent sore throat in the past few days then also ASO titres can be raised. However you should consult an ENT surgeon and a cardiologist for further evaluation specially to rule out RF/RHD (rheumatic fever / rheumatic heart disease). Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.

Avatar n tn It could most probably be tonsillitis and a throat infection. Throat pain, difficulty swallowing, fever, scratchiness in the throat, post nasal drip, malaise and loss of appetite are symptoms of tonsillitis. Avatar f tn Hello and hope you are doing well. High fever with sore throat is most probably due to an infection. It's unlikely to be an allergic reaction to onions. Allergic reactions can trigger episodes of sinusitis and consequent throat infections. The symptoms described could be due to a throat infection, most probably streptococcal or a viral infection. Strep sore throat needs to be treated with an antibiotic as strep is a bacteria.
