Common Questions and Answers about Sore muscles day after workout

sore

Avatar f tn So I worked out for the first time in a looong time yesterday, and my muscles hurt... I'm wondering if it's ok for me to workout today? I've been told to wait until my muscles aren't sore because they need to heal. And I've been told topush through it, so I just don't know. Any help?
20927897 tn?1681118903 Sore muscles are inevitable if you workout daily. There is only one way to avoid soar muscles and continue working out. Studies show that warming up your muscles before exercise may be better than stretching them. It wakes up your muscles by increasing blood flow to them. To warm up, do light versions of certain exercises. These include slow jogging or biking, jumping rope, or lifting light weights. Warming up before workout helps protect you from muscle strain or injury.
427382 tn?1298209586 I talked to my sis in law (she is training the be a personal trainer) about it, and she said to take a day off if you are sore. When you exercise you tear your muscles (that is the pain) then in your downtime they rebuild (that makes you more toned). If you keep exercising while you are sore then you don't give your muscles a chance to rebuild.

Avatar n tn Last week I went to my first spinning class. The next day I had sore muscles (as I had thought I would, it being my first time). I went to my second class 2 days after my first - still with sore muscles but thinking it would help. Well, it didn't. The second class was yesterday and for the rest of the day, and also today, I have not been able to walk well, bend my knees, lift my leg (mainly my right leg). The muscles in the front of my thigh are in agony.
424549 tn?1308515502 Hi, Does anyone remember what causes your body to recover slower after work-out? I finally got back to exercising (hurrah) but my body uses a whole lot longer now to overcome the ache. I can't wait for the muscles to be a little less sore. I'm taking 300 mg magnesium after each workout. Earlier that was enough. Even my neck muscles and tendons are cramping at night while I'm sleeping and 4 days after weight-training I can still not extend my arms completely.
616227 tn?1251076398 I know i must keep trying or my muscles will never adjust to exercise!! 11464625 tn?1422861172 How come when I workout I don't always feel sore the next day? I change my workout all the time and change reps, duration, sets, etc. I want to feel sore so I know I had a good workout.
Avatar m tn If you are doing muscle building exercises then concentrate on the same group of muscles on every alternate day. You can start with regular cardio for 20-30 minutes. You have to plan your exercise schedule with a trainer and follow it strictly. Take care!
Avatar n tn Hi there, I am a certified personal trainer at a very well known gym. I have a B.S. in Wellness, Health Promotion, and Injury Prevention with a minor in Exercise Science. This happens especially with legs. It's called delayed onset muscle soreness or DOMS for short. The day following your leg workout, you will be sore. Two days after you've done legs, you will be even more sore. Three days out the pain will start to subside.
539156 tn?1281818356 The glutes, hamstrings and calves are sore like sore muscles from a workout. I think my legs below my knees are swinging funny when I walk. Getting up from a chair or climbing up and down stairs is ......difficult. I have no foot drop at all. I know I am walking "funny" kind of like a penguin instead of a woman!
Avatar f tn Then work with children all day so that keeps me fit and going, then some days I also walk home after I finish my shift. I don't drive so I have to walk everywhere.
Avatar f tn After exercise your body is nitrogen poor and your muscles have been broken down. Providing your body with the correct nutrients after your workout is crucial in stopping the catabolic process in your muscle and shift the recycling process toward repair and growth. If you fail to feed your muscle at the right time after exercise, the catabolic process will go too far and can potentially damage your muscle.
Avatar f tn I am in good shape and exercise regularly but when I spend extra time on my lower abs particularly in my hips my muscles get extremely sore. I do not tire out easily while doing the exercise but when I am finished and sit down my muscles lock and sometimes I can not get back up or even lift my leg. One time it caused me to fall out of my car because my leg was locked in the sitting position at the hip. What could be causing this? What can I do?
Avatar f tn I had this happen when I was pregnant with all my kiddos, I think it is more from muscles and things moving around in there :) I dont think its anything to worry about but if it worries you, you could bring it up at the OB next visit.
756140 tn?1294767094 ~ And as far as being sore after exercising, I looked up information about that as well and it said that when your muscles are sore that means your exercising is working and to keep it up, so instead of taking a break like I was, I got right back into the game, and did my normal exercises today and my muscles DO FEEL BETTER! Just working out again after a day of not doing it made them feel so good. I love it!!!
1610044 tn?1326170840 If more than a day, then call the doctor, but those muscles are getting a workout w/your growing belly, so chances are you are OK, just sore muscles.
Avatar m tn Hi. I have been a member of this forum for a couple of years but I have never posted. I cringed when I read your post. I used to be a fitness instructor at a YMCA, but I am *not* an expert. I wonder if you are taking any anti-inflammatory? Did you go to the doctor yet? There is a difference between injury and soreness. You also mention swelling, and this is NOT normal. You definitely did injure yourself, but I have no idea if or how seriously.
Avatar f tn I just started the INSANITY 60 day challange......and if you want to sweat..... this is the workout for you! I am on my first week and already noticed changes to my body and I feel great.... a little sore but great!
1152782 tn?1451101426 Periodically I feel stabbing pains all through my breasts. Or does it just feel sore like when you workout and your muscles are sore and tired??
Avatar m tn Since the toliet incident, I have noticed my throat feels strange and sore muscles in the back of my neck and my back feels tight and a bit sore. I do not have a fever or headache, nor sensitivity to light. But, is it possible that I contracted meningitis from the toliet water after using the pipe and handling the keys? Last Sunday, I started the gym again and did vigorous ab exercises (sit ups and crunches) after a year-long haitus. I also did arm exercises with weights.
Avatar f tn My muscles and joints have been really sore the past couple of days and I haven't done anything for them to have reason to be sore? Especially in my left leg, foot and shoulder! I hate it bc I'm 26 years old and should be able to run and play with my kids and just can't!
Avatar f tn I just went to the gym for the first time in a very long time yesterday. The personal trainer had me do squats, and kept changing my form and asking me to do another set. It burned and felt like it normally feels, I wasn't in any terrible pain. Then he had me do a couple sets of lunges, again it was hard but not overly painful. A couple minutes afterwards, though, my thigh muscles cramped up like crazy.
Avatar n tn its actually very similar to how my lags might feel the day or two after a heavy workout. One thing that seems strange to me is that it is isolated to the internal muscles in my upper core. the first day I feel it all the time the next day its only when I take a deep breath or even hiccup or something and the third day I only really notice it every once in a while (sneeze cough etc.) Ive only ever experienced a hangover once in my life.
