148588 tn?1465778809 Contrary to popular belief, the process of manufacturing solar panels can and does create enormous amounts of harmful and toxic waste. Because the most of the solar panels consumed in the west are manufactured in China, the nature and extent of this pollution is hidden from the consumers of solar panels. We get the illusion of 'green, clean energy' on our shores, by exporting environmental ruin to the countries where the panels are manufactured.
179856 tn?1333547362 But this year our sun has come back to life, with spectacular outbursts of magnetism and light that arc into loops many times the size of the earth. And the SDO has shown us these prominences with a new and startling level of detail: (picture) The SDO has sophisticated instruments and high-resolution spectrometers that were developed to give us a greater understanding of the sun-earth environment, or space weather, which can affect our lives more than many would suspect.
206807 tn?1331936184 Solar industry advocates said the failure of these three companies is not indicative of the health of the U.S. solar industry as a whole and that overall the Energy Department's loan guarantee program has been a success. "In the last 18 months, solar companies have either added or expanded almost 60 factories in the U.S. and driven the installed cost of solar down by 30 percent," said Rhone Resch, president and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association.
Avatar n tn Actinic keratoses are considered the earliest stage in the development of skin cancer, and are caused by long-term exposure to sunlight. They are the most common pre-malignant skin condition.' 'Photokeratitis can be thought of as a sunburn of the cornea. It is caused by intense UVC/UVB exposure of the eye. Photokeratitis is also called “snow blindness” because many people develop this condition at high altitudes in a snowy environment where the reflections of UVB are high.
163305 tn?1333668571 The scientists are virtually unanimous that climate change is real, is caused by human activity and is already causing devastating problems in the United States and around the world. And, they tell us, if we do not act boldly the situation will only become much worse in years to come in terms of drought, floods, extreme storms and acidification of the oceans.
Avatar f tn Last year I believe I developed a sun allergy, after prolonged exposure to the sun I would get itchy red bumps in the evening and the next day they would be gone. As of this year I have been in the sun and have experience nothing. I was wonder if I spent some time in a tanning bed would I break out in the red bumps like the sun exposure? Not that I am interested in tanning I am just curious if it would have the same effect as the sun on my skin? thanks!
Avatar n tn m 25 now, and went to a concert this year without sunblock (how smart of me), and my face got a little sunburned. The little bit of redness on my face caused my whole face to swell up to the point where I almost couldn't see out of my eyes. It took a little over a week for all the swelling to go down. Any ideas what this could be?

Two-thirds of all solar capacity worldwide was installed since January 2011. 148588 tn?1465778809 As The Los Angeles Times reported recently, the Kochs and ALEC have made similar efforts in other states, though they were beaten back by solar advocates in Kansas and the surtax was reduced to $5 a month in Arizona. But the Big Carbon advocates aren’t giving up. The same group is trying to repeal or freeze Ohio’s requirement that 12.5 percent of the state’s electric power come from renewable sources like solar and wind by 2025.
Avatar n tn Within a week, the blotchiness areas will come about the 2nd or 3rd day of being in the sun and will remain a few days after the week is over. I usually put regular lotion on the areas to moisturize them so they wont itch so much, this helps some. I've also learned of something called Tinea Versicolor and have seen pictures and my case looks very similar to that.
163305 tn?1333668571 And I meant that in the nicest possible way;-) It's supposed to be gorgeous here in Houston. Teko... you should come here and watch it with me. I'll even make up my spare room for you to stay in and I'll put you up for the night. We can drive down to Galveston and sit on the beach and watch it together, all the while, arguing politics and at each other's throats. Doesn't that sound like fun?!?
148588 tn?1465778809 At the Texas Capitol, little is more sacrosanct than money, and the oil and gas industry has lots of it. The industry donated more than $5 million to legislators during 2013 and 2014, according to a Texans for Public Justice report. The average House member pocketed more than $25,000. Debate on Friday was mostly perfunctory. The details of the bill had been negotiated largely without input from rank-and-file lawmakers. Amendment after amendment was tanked on lopsided votes.
Avatar m tn Hi Fedup, I am sorry to hear about your on-going undiagnosed pain. We know how very frustrating that can be. My heart goes out to you. In layman's terms the the solar plexus is located in the area just below the chest and above the stomach. Is that where your pain is located? It may be time to consult a new PCP.....someone that is not associated with your current one. However I might give your physician one more chance. Impress upon him how you are feeling....
Avatar m tn hi, in short, the skin becomes sensitive in the later years and as the sunlight becomes more and more harsh with passing time, the damage to the skin becomes greater. as a rule of thumb, caucasians tend to have more damage, however people who may have darker skin may also suffer from some damage. the best thing to do then is to avoid sun exposure as much as possible. use clothes which cover your arms and legs and also headgear to cover your face.
Avatar n tn I've had angioedema around the vermillion border of my lips for approximately 4 months now. I feel fine otherwise and my CBC, HIV and C1Q tests came back normal/healthy. I've also been treated with antibiotics, antihistimines and prednisone and it hasn't helped the swelling at all. At this point, my doctor suspects that I might have a solar allergy and he and prescribed me Plaquenil (200mg BID). I've been taking it for 5 days now and so far there have been no results.

148588 tn?1465778809 Wind farms are killing birds and displacing wildlife and there are studies being conducted on the impact of the production of the windmills themselves. (Any plastics being used are a petroleum based product.) Also getting a big boost lately is hydro-energy endeavors, trying to harness the power of the tides of the oceans. Big ideas.... all potentially have some kind of an environmental impact.
Avatar f tn But now after my marriage it is becoming darker and increasing in size. I consulted a dermatologist and he prescribed me A-Doxid which cured the spot while I was taking the medicine. But they reappeared soon after. My physician told me that it is not curable. Is there any cure for it in allopathy? If not, then are there any home remedies which can minimize them? What is the main cause for this? Please suggest me any alternative methods if available.
148588 tn?1465778809 The investment bank has developed an economic model to show how solar panels and batteries will within this decade become competitive and disruptive technologies. The cost of solar panels has collapsed, falling by 85 per cent in the last seven years and UBS expects the cost of lithium batteries to halve by 2020.
Avatar f tn (CNN) -- An upper layer of Earth's atmosphere recently shrank so much that researchers are at a loss to adequately explain it, NASA said on Thursday. The thermosphere, which blocks harmful ultraviolet rays, expands and contracts regularly due to the sun's activities. As carbon dioxide increases, it has a cooling effect at such high altitudes, which also contributes to the contraction.
148588 tn?1465778809 The Survivor Library is a compilation of the tech advances we gained from the early 1800s to the early 1900s. One of the observations Mr. Rawlins makes is, that in putting this together, he came to realize what a harsh life people had at that time compared to now, but it wasn't bad compared to life in the 1400-1500s. It's interesting just to see the list of all these areas of knowledge even if you have no interest in learning beekeeping or blacksmithing.
