Avatar f tn Hi... I've never been to a psychiatrist but I pretty much know I have social anxiety disorder and possibly as a result depersonalization. While the social issues are getting better, depersonalization is getting worse I feel. Losing track of time abnormally, not remembering things ( im only 18 and should have no problems with memory) etc.
Avatar m tn I suffer from social anxiety. I haven't gone to a doctor but I self diagnosed myself, I have textbook symptoms. I recently lost my job and have no medical insurance, so I can't really afford to visit a doctor right now. I do take Kava Kava and St. Johns Wort, which helps calm my nerves a little. I try to control my attacks before they start because I know what types of situations trigger them....work.....driving....speaking in public....large groups.....interviews....foreign situations.....etc..
Avatar n tn he said himself it was anxiety. See anxiety generalizes. it started with being nervous about the gas. Excersise didnt help much cuz i ran long distance in track and it was still happening. i reaaly appreciate ur help tho.
Avatar m tn I've read that smoking raises blood pressure and therefore exacerbates anxiety/stress, so it's a no-brainer that the social-smoking needs to stop. I also read that it's a good idea to cut out caffeine (no more Diet Mt. Dew *cry *throwfit *repeat). So if you are reading this looking for how to stop anxiety and panic attacks after a night of drinking, the simple answer is to STOP drinking.
Avatar f tn //en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_phobia I would suggest you to explore this option and let us know if you need more help.
Avatar m tn im stressed out, sometimes depressed and have some anxiety while at work and sometimes in social situations. i have taken every type of anti-anxiety medication you can think of and never want to take these meds again - i felt terrible while taking them and they never did anything to help in fact, i was worse while taking them. tramadol on the other hand calms me down.
Avatar n tn I think you would do well going to a therapist that specializes in social anxiety disorder. Yours seems to be pretty specific in that it happens in an isolated circumstance. It's kinda like a fear of flying. People can lead otherwise very normal lives yet they crumble when it comes to getting on an airplane. This can be helped by medication but the most effective treatment is therapy and 'Desensitization'. A group treatment setting may also be quite helpful.
Avatar f tn It sounds more like social anxiety disorder, which can strike kids in school situations even when they are talkative at home. Here is a link: http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar m tn Unsteadiness is constant all day and much worse in stressful situations, crowds, and if I got too hot. Felt like what I would imagine social anxiety is. So bad in some social situations needed to sit down. Neurologist and ENT thought probable viral damage or stress or allergies but said may never know for sure. Diagnosis of atypical migraine. Went on tri-cyclic antidepressant for 6 weeks. Helped right away with unsteadiness feeling, about 80-90% better, still bad under big store lights.
Avatar m tn Some of the symptoms that may occur as a result of long-term use of benzodiazepines include emotional clouding, nausea, headaches, dizziness, irritability, lethargy, sleep problems, memory impairment, personality changes, aggression, depression, agoraphobia, anxiety, and panic attacks, social deterioration as well as employment difficulties" "There is evidence that reduction or withdrawal from benzodiazepines can lead to a reduction in anxiety symptoms" http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar f tn http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_mutism The above is a link to a page that describes a social anxiety called "selective mutism," often seen in children in school. Please read it and see if it seems to describe your daughter.
Avatar m tn only supposed to be a short term thing. its been 4 years with on agian off agian symptoms, anxiety depression social anxity. what else could it be?
Avatar f tn Check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paroxetine#Indications For me, antidepressants were the key to controling anxiety long term. There has always been a place for the 'benzo's' as well, for the panic and 'anxiety surges' but I keep that to a minimum. You may find Paxil works for you, it's quite popular. Let your doc guide you toward the best solution for you. hope this helps! Good luck in whatever you deciide.
Avatar n tn My diagnosis ranges from PTSD, Social Anxiety, Depression I had tried Zoloft some years back it was intollerable for the first three or four days, that "they" had me stop taking it.
Avatar n tn It sounds to me (go with your doctor first right) that you have a type of social anxiety and a type of non panic anxiety. While I would listen to the doctor, I can give you some tips/techniques that might help you if you have panic issues, although I doubt you will. The part of these tips/techniques I am specifically talking about is the thought deversion methods, very helpful for when you are laying down and have those terrible thoughts.
Avatar f tn I too used to get panic attacks, after my micro-preemie was born. I started driving to the hosp., which is 1 hour away to see my son in NICU. Well, I didn't make it too far, maybe 16-17 miles! I went dead stop in my car, parked in a parking lot, and sat there for a couple hours till my hubby came to pick me up. The only time I would get attacks is when I was driving! Which is bad! I couldn't control it nohow! Needless to say, I did NOT drive for 6-7 months.
Avatar m tn im 14, for the past 2 years ive been having sleeping and anxiety problems (im posting about sleeping problem here) i havent gone to school the past 2 years, the main reason is the anxiety but another reason is the sleeping problem, i am interested in disorders and came to the conclusion that i might have Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder (DSPD / DSPT / DSPS) currently, i go to bed at around 5-7am and wake up at 1-3pm, i feel most comfortable sleeping during the day time, and it is quite difficult to
Avatar m tn //en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_anxiety I have this as well. I don't have it to the degree that you do (trust me, not bragging) unless it's small crowds. This stems from the same place yours does it seems. I was bullied in school, embarrassed by students and can even pin point when the worst happened that probably domino effected the rest. Mine I think started in elementary school when I got stuck between two buildings and the fire department had to get me down.

Avatar m tn And a betablocker only works for anxiety caused by heart irregularities and even then only for social anxieties usually. They are not particularly effective for other kinds of panic attacks, though of course any individual is different from any other one.

Avatar m tn You're pushing yourself in social situations where you're experiencing anxiety, and you're able to keep the anxiety at bay once you get busy and distracted with your day. Really, the BEST way to manage anxiety is to work on changing the way we think and react. You're doing a lot of "what if" thinking, which is typical with anxiety. A good therapist will help you learn how to dismiss those what if thoughts instead of fueling them. Really, it's basic conditioning.
401095 tn?1351395370 I posted about PAWS last night but my post disappeared. Avatar m tn Your symptoms to me sound as if you are suffering from anxiety. Anxiety would explain all of the symptoms you described. But the best thing to do is to discuss these issues with your MD to find out what exactly is going on and why.
Avatar n tn I've suffered with anxiety and panic for 27 years (I'm a 52-year old female) and its hard to imagine that an old anxiety veteran like me would still be fooled by it. I'm feeling less like I'm dying and more like I'm suffering the symptoms of extreme anxiety after reading all your posts. Surely we can't all have ALS or MS or any of the other catastrophic diseases we imagine, right? I had nerve and muscle testing done last year and it was fine.
Avatar f tn The child expresses its anxiety and distress through thumb sucking. The inner anxiety is relieved. Newborns and infants have no other way to explore the world. They learn by mouthing objects. They explore the environment by mouth. This may continue for a long time. Your daughter is anxious. She is trying to tell you something. She needs reassurance. The arm movements are part of her expression of anxiety. You will need to relieve the anxiety.
