anxiety

Avatar f tn If you find the answer to this question, let me know. Iam the exact same way. People seem to think i am stuck-up, or a b tch. My husband is the only one that gets me. One thing I have learned, when i do talk to people, i try to talk enough to bring up my shyness and it seems after that they know im not stuck-up and they reach out more. I dont take it anymore but when i was on lexapro, i was more confident with who i was and was able to talk more to people.
1006035 tn?1485579497 jdtm, in my opinion, does know her stuff about the challenge of social anxiety. As I said above, shyness usually improves but social anxiety is a psychiatric disorder. If your child does turn out to have social anxiety, you would want to address it for her sake. She does sound like she is talking some in terms of your comment that she is trying to direct the class. I agree about socializing. My son had some social issues (as many sensory kids do)------- and we worked hard on it.

689528 tn?1364139441 So my son (almost 4) has been diagnosed recently as having social anxiety disorder. When we are in public situations like a fair or even a small room with plenty of people he either acts out or cries. It takes him a VERY long time to warm up to some people, especially other kids. I think his teacher thinks he's autistic because he doesn't acknowledge the other kids. I run a home daycare and he will play with the kids here. He also talks to adults that he knows well.
Avatar f tn clearly, you've developed social anxiety a) may I message you with a list of links to my posts containing tips on managing anxiety?
Avatar f tn Yes, I have similar anxiety associated with certain social interactions. I have diagnosed generalized anxiety, not social anxiety. The only difference I see is, unlike my husband who suffers from social anxiety, I can experience heightened anxiety for a wide range of causes, and be perfectly at ease in many social settings. But one recurring issue I have is that when I ‘let my guard down’ I stress out that I start talking too much.
Avatar m tn hey all :) its my first time posting on this forum. let me talk a bit about myself, i am a male who is not shy at all BUT in certain social situations i enter into the cycle of "Sweating- social anxiety in certain situation - panic attack" . I have crazy genetics which make me sweat a lot by nature, so at some point in my life i started having the fear of sweating in certain formal social situation (like meeting, presentation ) and it became like a sort of phobia.
Avatar m tn I have pretty bad social anxiety, mostly occurs with strangers but I suffer from it with friends too. I think the root of the problem is that I consider myself ugly looking and to top it off I have scoliosis which makes me self-conscious about my body and the way I sit for example. Frustrating as hell. This leads to problems such as: - Eye contact tends to be hard for me, especially with people that I don't know well.
Avatar m tn He needs some things that are just for him. And remember, social anxiety is real. Adults are often treated for it medically. If he starts preschool and social problems persist. Come back. I have lots of tips. My son had many issues at 4 and now at 6 is a very athletic, well liked kid. He's one of the guys which was HIS goal and not mine.
662361 tn?1225338107 I called yesterday to apply for SS benefits and had a horrible experience - now I have more anxiety than ever! This is part of an email I wrote to one of the members of my local Fibro support groups but I wanted to extend the questions to the rest of you to see what tips you might be able to offer: "It was an extremely stressful phone call as she was very curt with me and said that I am “not disabled” and repeatedly asked, “and it was your doctor who said that you were unable to work?
Avatar m tn To add to the cold water technique, if you are in full blown panic attack, find ice as soon as you can, put it into some kind of rag or cloth, wet it, and rub it all over your head, face, neck, and behind your ears. Again, the cold shocks the mind out of the anxiety. Here are some tips to prevent the anxiety and or panic attacks. Stay away from caffine, as a rule, it is the MAIN reason people suffer from anxiety disorder and panic disorder.
Avatar n tn One of my closest friends suffered from sm and severe social anxiety as a child, teen and young adult. But, when her daughter started to exhibit the same behaviours she had as a child, she knew it was time she did something about her own anxieties so that she could help her daughter. She is the one who "leads" our support group. I'm going to post the address of an article that was published in our local newspaper and then posted on the internet - http://www.selectivemutism.
Avatar f tn I've been concerned about him for several years now, but lately I'm having intense anxiety to even call him because he's always drunk or busy. However, on top of being an alcoholic, my father is the prototypical Cancer as well. Coupled with the alcoholism, he is very reclusive, reserved and hypersensitive. I don't have the courage to talk to him, because when I have seen others address his health or emotional problems he just dismisses it as something minor and shuts down.
Avatar m tn I was wondering if anyone has actually been cured of panic, agoraphia or social disorders? My panic has been going on for 25 years. I have tried everything, books, c/d's, meds, bio. Seems to me that you can control it but not cure it. I could be wrong. I have found xanax to actually take all symptoms away. I have yet to find an antidepressant that does anything for me. What i don't understand is if a medication is working for your condition, why is that bad?
987762 tn?1331031553 I do not have an anxiety problem but this is an anti-anxiety drug that helps calm my tremor. My boyfriend recently told me that when I sleep my legs "go" and sometimes my arm. He means they shake in my sleep. Not sure what's going on there, luckily I'm sleeping :P He says "your legs were really going, what were you dreaming about?

Avatar m tn Thank You sooooooooo much. I am going to try your suggestions. I to, used to be able to drive the freeway like a crazy person. I actually LOVED the freeway & driving itself now I fear it everyday. I take back roads to work & have not driven the xpressway in a year but I want to so bad. I try to tell myself that this is NOT going to control me & some days are good & I feel like I can drive forever...but most days are a real challenge. I have trouble at stop lights....
Avatar m tn I am just wondering if any of you who have experience suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder, panic attacks, health anxiety, have any tips for how you deal with it ? overcome it ? I see a psychiatrist every couple of months for a review of the medication i am on . And i met one yesterday and he was very nice, hes trying to set up some cbt therapy for me. I had some cbt therapy before but not enough of it for it to be effective.
Avatar f tn I am not a therapist and have no qualifications to diagnose you, but it sounds to me like you have social anxiety. I wish I knew how old you were as it would perhaps change some of my advice. There ARE self-help books out there, but I don't really put much stock in them. I would rather urge you to see a therapist trained in anxiety issues to help you overcome this, which you definitely CAN.
Avatar n tn I fear that we are reinforcing this behaviour by allowing him to leave and also dictate which family house we can visit i.e. if there is a baby there he will not go. Any suggestions/tips would be appreciated.

1422823 tn?1287682880 You say you suffered from anxiety long before chiari was dx, but you do not acquire chiari at the time of diagnosis, you had it all your life, the doctors just didn't tell you. So, in reality, you have had chiari longer than you have suffered from anxiety!
Avatar f tn These are very common symptoms of chronic anxiety sufferers, though they can also be caused by an underactive thyroid -- something not necessarily well-treated or understood by allopathic docs. You're at an age when problems like chronic anxiety break out.
Avatar m tn pounding heartbeat, heartbeat in my ears, trouble getting to sleep at night, fatigue during the day, headache in the temple area/right above the nose, muscle ache, irritability, inability to enjoy social events because of the anxiousness/symptom, cold sweat in hands an/or feet, malaise or muscle weakness(only happened 2 or 3 times), and a sunburn feeling on my chest. these would rotate and usually didn't happen regularly.
Avatar f tn I have had unprotected encounters (or should I say encounter) some years ago and that is what triggered my anxiety over the disease. During this time, I have had two full STI's tests including HIV and they both have come back negative and each were when I was out of the window period. I guess my question is, is there a chance that I could still have HIV? Perhaps the tests were done wrong both times and I got a false-negative test back each time.
