anxiety

1006035 tn?1485579497 jdtm, in my opinion, does know her stuff about the challenge of social anxiety. As I said above, shyness usually improves but social anxiety is a psychiatric disorder. If your child does turn out to have social anxiety, you would want to address it for her sake. She does sound like she is talking some in terms of your comment that she is trying to direct the class. I agree about socializing. My son had some social issues (as many sensory kids do)------- and we worked hard on it.
Avatar m tn I have a certain type of social anxiety. In large groups, I am ok. In small (4-5) people, I am ok. In Medium groups like anywhere from 10-30, I get very nervous. Something I noticed you said is very interesting. You began by saying that you have a lot to offer. This shows you have confidence which of course is a great thing. So, in my non professional opinion, it is one of a few things that cause you to have the social anxiety. I am thinking it could be because of "sensory overload".
Avatar f tn My anxiety in social situations is so bad that I have very few friends cause my anxiety won't allow me to get out.
Avatar f tn Am I wrong to make him play? -- your question No. But, by your own words, "it's the same process every year". I feel that your son suffers from an anxiety "disorder" (probably social anxiety) which is different from being anxious or shy. Anxiety disorders affect the physical, emotional and mental aspects of a person and as thus, requires specialized help in learning how to "manage" one's fears/anxieties.
Avatar n tn I've known for a while now that theres something wrong with me but I dont know what it was untill I heard about social anxiety. I feel like everyone is better at anything else than me. Like most of the time I can never do anything or say anything right. I feel like im a doormat. To affraid to do or say most things. Im not close with my family and I hate it, but just going up to lets say my sister and telling her how much i like her is the hardest thing in the world to do. I cant do it.
Avatar n tn There are many conditions that can cause a child to behave in the ways you describe. There can be sensory processing problems, social anxiety problems, other developmental problems. Nothing jumps out based on your description, but you can rule it out to appease the teacher. If the ped rules problems out, you can move on to the next step with the teacher. My final thought goes back to home.
Avatar f tn My husband suffers from social anxiety. Its gotten so bad the last three years that its to the point where we have no social life as a couple. We don't go out together at all. No movies, no dinner at restaurants, no church, no parties. He won't even try. If we do go anywhere its because I beg him, then we usually leave early or walk out on the movie because he is in such a state. Most days when he gets off work he just plays video games.
Avatar m tn He needs some things that are just for him. And remember, social anxiety is real. Adults are often treated for it medically. If he starts preschool and social problems persist. Come back. I have lots of tips. My son had many issues at 4 and now at 6 is a very athletic, well liked kid. He's one of the guys which was HIS goal and not mine.
Avatar f tn I have always struggled with some strange form of social anxiety/low self esteem, and could never quite get to the root of it. Interestingly enough, because I have out of neccessity developed a very high sensitivity for cognitively picking up on social cues, I am able to perform quite well, if not thrive, in cross cultural scenarios. Some other cultures embrace ideas such as being forthwrite in general and also apprehensive about new people, etc., which suits me.
Avatar n tn Your daughter may have anxiety and specifically social anxiety. She sounds like her imaginative play is good and her verbal skills are fine which is all good. But she prefers to play alone. At 3.5 kids are coming out of paralell play and interacting more. What I would do is to start focasing on socializing with her. First, at home------ you are her playmate. Come into her games and actually play with her.
Avatar m tn My family used to call my son vampire boy because he never wanted to go anywhere or do anything, just stay in the house and play video games. In my son's case, it was anxiety, mostly Social Anxiety. Pushing hard for them to join things or get out of the house only pushes it into depression. He may be normal, but let me tell you, I wish I had taken my son to a counselor when he was 12 - that's when school started to cause him great anxiety.
Avatar n tn My wife and I go just to get some help...He wont go to any type of social function outside of basketball. He said there is something bothering him but he wont tell us or go to see someone. His Doctor sent a request to the school to ask teachers if they noticed any signs or social problems or ADD.They all said they saw no problems. We have noticed a lack of focus etc,,and the doctor has put him on a med for ADD. He has been in it a couple of weeks and we have seen little change...
Avatar m tn what are your views regarding social situations where alcohol is served? Basically I'm very weak if everyone is looped having a good time and of course I'll want to jump in on the fun. Since I'm new to the whole sober scene, I really fear how to act or what to say. I mean, I don't want to stay home all my life, but believe this will be my biggest challenge. I can get caught up in the excitement quite easily which could be very depressing in the aftermath.
Avatar f tn my 6 year old autistic boy has recently developed anxiety over staying at my sisters home. since he was diagnosed at 2 yrs old, he has stayed there a couple of nights allowing me to go to work. however last yr both my parents were ill and my father passed away later in the year. my sister became their main carer and therefore my son didnt stay as much and i had to reorganise my work hours.
Avatar f tn Hi... I've never been to a psychiatrist but I pretty much know I have social anxiety disorder and possibly as a result depersonalization. While the social issues are getting better, depersonalization is getting worse I feel. Losing track of time abnormally, not remembering things ( im only 18 and should have no problems with memory) etc.
Avatar m tn Therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and cognitive bias modification (CBM) are very effective. When it comes to social anxiety, worrying or projecting what others may think of you, you need to understand firmly, that people have no idea what you think, and you have no idea what they are thinking.
774736 tn?1311334985 spent 5 days in the hospital because I was also fighting some sort of stomach virus which in reality was probably related to the anxiety. Next few weeks were ridiculous, so weak, afraid of everything, agoraphobic, social phobia, it was like I had to learn how to do everything over again- go to the movies, any where out in public, classroom, driving a car somewhere, it was HORRIBLE. And I never thought I'd ever be like that.
Avatar m tn i have so much free time and i realized that because my anxiety got worse on vacation when i have no school and time to waste on i spend all my day on games or my phone ..
758077 tn?1282599161 I would have thought the anxiety would have gone by now. I know sleep will help, but I need to get rid of the anxiety first.
Avatar n tn Sounds like anxiety to me. You might wish to google the words/phrase "childhood anxiety" or "anxiety at school" or "social anxiety in children" or similar words/phrases to see if any of the descriptions remind you of your son. If you feel anxiety is the issue, the next stop would be a visit to your son's pediatrician or the family doctor. Hope this helps ...
Avatar n tn The new teachers say he is very polite and a pretty good listener, except for his social issues--he does the dinasour roaring and tickling there too. It is very clear that he wants to engage teh other kids in play, but he doesn't know how. Other things of note: he is VERY bright and talented in several areas--he has an amazing ear and can play songs on the piano after hearing them a few times.

189238 tn?1208730919 My anxiety doc slept in front of me. I'm not going back anymore! He made me anxiety there. I thought he was dying! My cardio actually can shock me during the pacer check up in his office. He shocked me once without telling or warning. One of the sudden, I white out, I was looking at the ceiling and suddenly all turn white (lost of my eye digital signal) then I was chasing breath......... The vision came back soon. I was very scared and walked out of his office quietly.
Avatar n tn It sounds to me like you are suffering from some social anxiety which is a very real anxiety disorder. Lack of concentration and "jumping" thoughts are some of the signs of ADD so it is possible you may have that also - have you experienced these symptoms all your life or have you just noticed them recently? If they have only happened recently, they could be as a result of your anxiety. Have you been feeling depressed lately?
Avatar m tn this was about 13 years ago when this all started. At that time I just moved to a new high school, I have very bad social anxiety to began with. I would eat alone etc but still functioned.
Avatar m tn This worsens my anxiety and i feel a lot of other anxiety symptoms. One curious thing is that since 2010 i got afraid of exercising and i have been sedentary (no exercise) since then. I got deconditionated and now every little exercise like climbing stairs give me tachicardya and anxiety.... :( Can someone give me some advice? thank you!!
Avatar m tn If im in class, I cant ask questions or speak in class because I feel like everyone is judging me and that im acting like an idiot. If im at a party or any type of social gathering, im always the guy sitting by himself in the corner of the room watching tv or texting people on the cell phone (sometimes I even fake text people, just so I look like some doing something and have a 'reason' to be not talking to anyone) or anything that doesnt involve conversing with other people.
Avatar f tn Being scared to leave the house and being nervous in social situations can all be related to your anxiety in my opinon. Have you ever had the chance to seek counseling to understand where your source of anxiety is coming from? For me, understanding it makes it much less confusing and much more easier to deal with and confront...keep us posted!
