Social anxiety disorder xanax

Common Questions and Answers about Social anxiety disorder xanax

Avatar m tn As far as I know and from my own personal experience, there aren't any long term serious side effects from taking xanax. If you have an anxiety disorder and chemical imbalance, then you'll always have that with or without xanax. If it's only situational then you can work that out through therapy. But once you are off xanax completely it does not cause permenant anxiety, only when you are withdrawing from it.
397118 tn?1219765850 The only thing I can think of is it has similar affects as the xanax. It is used for anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic attacks-so this would be like taking a "downer" for some. Now you should know that in addicts, pills can have the opposite effects. For me, pain killers make me high-for 'normal' people they put them to sleep? So, it may be that the paxil gives him a buzz. An important thing for you to recognize is that this is NOT your fault.
605458 tn?1539232408 Unfortunately, right now I can't take the antidepressants right now because of my bipolar disorder and I hate using medications like Xanax. Anyone know of any alternatives or tricks to help brush away the social anxiety so I can look at this opportunity realistically? Maybe I would have to resort to a tiny dose of the Xanax just in the beginning.
Avatar n tn well i told my mom about this and she took me off zoloft and it kind of went a way, but i don't know if is cause by to much seretonin or just something new i have devolved from my social anxiety disorder.. ......i have had xanax and it did help better , but i hear Valium is more affective , long lasting, and less dangerous so i hope to get s subscription to that tomorrow when i go visit my counselor for the first time. because the edge and aftermath of my self conscience is unreal.
Avatar n tn hi i'll try to make it short- well ive had anxiety disorder since this january. and i havent taken any medications (yet!) i do get very dizzy or feel like im running out of breath whenever i get nervous, scared.etc and Yes, is ometimes do feel like its not the stress or anxiety, but some brain issues, anyhow, im trying to overcome these problems by myself, without taking medications. i strongly believe that u should take some time and try to relax...
Avatar n tn I think that obessessive compulsive disorder (OCD) can be called an anxiety disease. I don't think it means you have generalized anixety disorder, especially if you are only worried about that one thing. Perhaps you should see a counselor and get cognitive behavior therapy for yourself. I would check that out before starting on a med.
506273 tn?1260142381 Namaste, Social anxiety disorder, also called social phobia, is an anxiety disorder in which a person has an excessive and unreasonable fear of social situations. Anxiety (intense nervousness) and self-consciousness arise from a fear of being closely watched, judged and criticized by others. A person with social anxiety disorder is afraid that he or she will make mistakes and be embarrassed or humiliated in front of others.
Avatar m tn That kind of chjange usualy happens in therapy, along with work on our own. Even if Xanax worked perfectly for you, for optimal management of an anxiety disorder, more work is necessary. What meds have you tried, and how long were you on them? Have you been in therapy at all, and if so, for how long? Did you TRY to get as much out of therapy as you could?
Avatar n tn I've only had one true friend throughout my school years. I've lost friends that I've worked so hard to get to know because of my social anxiety disorder. I've spent every school year eating lunch alone and always found my self standing up against a wall during recess. I just couldn't help it. I couldn't bring my self to start a conversation with someone else or play games with them or anything. I tore me apart. I couldn't stand it or myself. What can I say.
Avatar n tn reaction, and now it's difficult to deal with the anxiety without the Xanax. Should I just take a few weeks while using the Xanax to heal? I am so eager to get off the med and be back to the way I was just a few weeks ago, I think I may be making it worse by trying too soon, worrting if I can handle without the Xanax, then feeling like I've failed. WIll I have withdrawl probelms later on with such a small dose of Xanax? (.5 mg XR) Thank You!!!!
1469703 tn?1372045076 I have social anxiety as well. Locked up in the house and my son suffers because of it :( I had the same issue but found out it wasn't Benzo at all. My psych started me on Lamictal to stabilize the rages. Give the Klonopin a chance. It does need to build up in your system for a therapeutic effect. Lamictal has been great so far. It has a very calming effect. Not a doped up, foggy head feeling that SSRI's usually cause. There are risks with Lamictal as there are with all pharmaceuticals.
Avatar f tn Anxiety can be a symptom of mood disorders, or it can be a separate condition that you also happen to have. Having generalize anxiety disorder or social anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder at the same time is perfectly possible. I highly recommend checking out the website for more info on this, as well as the mood disorder spectrum in general. Secondly, why is this doctor saying SSRIs are CAUSING anxiety?
Avatar n tn Although marketed as an antidepressant, is has also been shown to be effective in anxiety disorders (e.g. panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and social phobia). Ask your doctor about which of these is best for you. Hope this helps!
1515545 tn?1291399364 I finally found a psychiatrist who actually listened to me unconditionally and he diagnosed me with social anxiety disorder and he prescribed Abilify in addition to my Wellbutrin but he decreased the dosage from 200mg to 150 mg and also I take klonapin when it's necessary and it's quick relief but I cannot drive after consuming it because it makes me sleepy I sure abilify will work quickly.
Avatar m tn Hi, I have been on xanax 2mg 3 times daily for about 6 months. Is it too late to withdraw before this gets out of control? My Dr. said that the safest way was to taper by .5mg every7 to 10 days. Am I in for living hell, or is this survivable? I swear to God, I'll never go back to this drug if I get off it. What are my chances? Also, xanax appears to impair urination at times. Is this unheard of? Hope to hear from you!
Avatar n tn Hello, My anxiety hit me hard about 5 years ago when I moved out on my own for the first time. My anxiety is social. I got over it for the most part except for the one thing that kind of stayed with me through out the last 5 years, my phone phobia. I HATE TALKING ON THE PHONE! I started taking xanax 3 weeks ago and it amazes how many people I actually want to talk to when I'm on it. I call everyone in my phone book & they all freak out because I am actually calling them and talking, LOL.
431685 tn?1324341198 I feel like there's no reason for me to live anymore if I keep suffering from GAD and panic disorder. I feel terrible I tell you, terrible.. I had this last month and it lasted for 4 days.. now 3 days ago I had it again until now as I'm typing and I feel TERRIBLE I get very light headed.. I'm dizzy.. Can't eat.. Loss interest of so many things.. Emotional ( I cried without any reason..) Dying.. Etc.. Is GAD or panic disorder curable? Can it be treated?
Avatar n tn I also feel a dependence to xanax because of anxiety disorder and inability to sleep. Just a suggestion, my doctor prescribed me Klonopin, a low dose to wean off xanax. Klonopin is apparently much easier to get off of when you are ready. Klonopin is also much longer lasting effect. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I have Social Anxiety Disorder (primary) with Depression. I took Lexapro 10 mg for a year and a half and gained 15 pounds and had a low libido. My doctor added Wellbutrin XL 150 mg about 6 months ago to counteract the symptoms, but it didn't help. My new doctor had me taper off the Lexapro (3 days off now - nausea, cramping, sleepiness, nightmares, headache, dizziness) and wants me to try staying on the Wellbutrin XL 150 mg alone.
Avatar n tn If you are physically dependant, and want to go off, you do need to taper slowly, since going off it suddenly can cause a seizure. Xanax is most often used for short term relief of anxiety. Most docs won't use it as a first line medication for sleep, because of its addictive potential. Chat with your Doc, be honest, and you'll be able to decide whether to stay on it or not.
605458 tn?1539232408 This means pushing myself through INTENSE anxiety. Why is this such a big deal? Is it something chemical? And if so, why just social situations? Or would it be more likely something that happened at some point? Could I have just been born this way? I can't take antidepressants because I have bipolar disorder and the send me into a manic state. I want to avoid taking anything like Xanax.
2198057 tn?1338534805 Was not taking Xanax until I started Zoloft. Anxiety did increase have been having to take 1/2 xanax by afternoon to calm the jetttery, jump out of your skin, hot flashes anxiety. Trying to stay with the Zoloft but do not like taking the benzos, but if the Zoloft helps in the long term will be worth it. Tried Wellbutrin way too much anxiety with little hope of getting better. Lexapro made me sick, lost too much weight.
Avatar n tn I agree that the food we eat has a lot of bad chemicals in it. But I know for me personally, I think smoking pot for years is what caused my social anxiety, or atleast made it 100X worse. At first when I started smoking pot I would feel nervous or anxious when in public and around sober people, and it morphed into me being anxious around people all the time. But I was a very very heavy smoker for years.
Avatar n tn I have social anxiety disorder, ptsd, and ocd. I have been also told by my last psychologist he couldn't give me anything for anxiety. Side effects, and my history of drug/ alcohol abuse. But as part of his treatment i did dialectical behavior therapy which is for ppl with bpd and alot of it focused on breath work and exposure therapy and as part of the therapy i was told i had to volunteer because i was not leaving the house and now i volunteer 2 days a week and i love it.
15043259 tn?1438083581 First line treatment is cognitive behavioural therapy for OCD or panic disorder, and metacognitive therapy for GAD and social anxiety disorder. If medications are to be used, it would be SSRI or SNRI, and in some cases a small dose of atypical antipsychotics. Benzos are avoided in the treatment of anxiety disorders (they are almost only used for situational anxiety like stage fright or fear of flying).
605458 tn?1539232408 I have some pretty severe social anxiety, unfortunately, I also have bipolar1 disorder and I can't take the Zoloft that used to work for the anxiety because it makes me manic. I have a prescription for Xanax that I am afraid to use. I don't need an addiction on top of everything else or for me to do something horrible during a serious manic or depressed state. I have had some great opportunities to get out and be somewhat social.
Avatar m tn Benzo meds get a bad rap because most of the peoples with an anxiety disorder will have a comorbidity of addiction ( alcohol, drugs...). No wonder why almost all the anxious peoples tend to self-medicated with those substances... Benzo are addicting, that's true, but they are not dangerous at all!!! Ok, maybe if you take more than 100 mg of Rivotril at the same time, you will do a trip to the emergency, but you will not die...I don't know why peoples write those kind of false informations.
