Avatar f tn I have 2 dogs the maltese and a terrier mix. The Maltese is paper trained but when he goes outside he eats the teriers poop. What could be wrong? Any ideas?
Avatar f tn We watch other dogs on occasion and I am concerned for not only my own dogs safety but those of visiting dogs. My daughter is a volunteer at the local shelter and is having a difficult time with the idea of taking the foster (beagle mix ) back to the shelter in fear that they will put her down. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as my daughter is distraught about this.
Avatar f tn While I am at work I let my in laws take care of her and my in law takes care of other dogs (male or female). For some reason.. My female Maltese stomach has been growing outrageously big..not typical for a regular maltese weight/size. I'm thinking she may be pregnant but I'm not sure if she can be at such a young age. The only thing i also notice differently is that she is more relaxed (laying down all the time) & always out of breath. Any thoughts?
Avatar n tn Can I use Besivance in my dogs eyes? He has an eye infection. He is totally blind and is 16 years old.
178107 tn?1315947630 There is always a danger that something could go wrong during whelping, no matter how carefully you plan things. Toy breeds are even more prone to difficulties during whelping just based on their tiny size. However, there are many other important things that should be considered before breeding your dog.
Avatar f tn ve never heard of this in Maltese or Poodles but I know a breed like a Pug can have elongated soft palates and collapsing tracheas. Does anything ever come out her nose, even a little, like food or water? I ask this because she may have (even a hairline) cleft palate. Has she been to the Vet or due to go in soon for shots maybe? I would mention this to the Vet and have him/her give the puppy a thorough examination. Wish I could be of more help.
Avatar n tn Hi, Calm down and just let your cat know where the food, water and litter are. I assure you that in your cat's own time he/she will begin to feel less fear and come around. I had to take in my daughter's cat into my house with 2 dogs and a cat. Her cat stayed as far away as possible for months, and when we saw her on the stairs and we reached to try to pet her she swiped at us.
Avatar f tn I have 2 dogs, a Maltese and a Yorkie. They will both be turning 1 Dec. 16, and we got them both together so they have grown up together and all that. The maltese is a bit more shy and reserved while my yorkie is more out going and yappy. I have always been more attached to the maltese cuz he's more sweet, hes a mommy's boy and the yorkie likes my husband more since they play rough and is a bit aggressive.
Avatar n tn Hi All, I had a diabetic baby (he's passed on now), but I had found a great canine diabetic/cushing's site when he was diagnosed. I can't remember what forum it was , I'll check to see if I still have it listed in my favorites, and if it's even still around, and I'll post that.
Avatar n tn You may be wondering why I am even contemplating this if it bothers me, but I have to say that I absolutely fell in love with this dog when I saw the photos. Of all of the dogs I have been viewing, I felt such a connection with this one. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn My 8 year old male Maltese has been showing symptoms of what seems to be Kennel Cough, however my assumptions are based on an hour's worth of internet research. I haven't visited the vet yet due to financial reasons. I came across TWO youtube clips of two different dogs showing likewise symptoms that my maltese has been showing lately. It's been happening for about a week now.
Avatar n tn 2010, my 10 year old Maltese male began scratching at the bed in the middle of the night. He usually sleeps and prefers to be in his own bed, in the bedroom. He was shivering severely and his body was very cold, including paw pads. It was Not cold in the house. Picked him up and warmed him up and after a fairly short amount of time he was then panting. After this, the entire next day he followed me Everywhere, tail drooping, hanging down.
Avatar n tn She should have begun to show signs of nipple enlargement as well as swelling in the vaginal area. Some dogs, like some people hide their pregnancies and don't show until the very end. She may have only one or two puppies, in which case she wouldn't grow very large. An X-Ray or abdominal ultrasound/pregnancy check is really worth it, not only to set your mind at ease, but to determine a more exact due date, or to see if she really is pregnant.
634528 tn?1222655084 I have 2 black labs and they love to lay out back on our deck in the sun. When they come in the they smell like wet dogs, I always just chalked it up to their being hot and maybe sweating, b/c it does go away after they are inside where it is cool.
808425 tn?1371092328 I sympathize with you. The hardest days of my life (even though I'm hypo!) were the ones that I had to put dogs down. Dogs do end up in heaven...people, I'm not so sure. Dogs are just the embodiment of "good". Every dog I've ever had was the "best" dog I'd ever had...so was the next one and the next one. Get a new dog soon...it's a tribute to your last dog. I hate to live without them.
8335135 tn?1397679400 Green tripe has the advantage of adding weight (and energy for working dogs), but it is also low in phosphorus and protein, so great for kidney failure dogs. The drawback is it stinks to high hell when it's cooking, but dogs generally absolutely love it. Other good foods for adding weight are fatty meats - so pure hamburger (no additives, herbs or onions), lamb and beef. Other things are sweet potatoes, but sparingly, as they can cause loose stools.
Avatar n tn Sneezing dogs, this time of the year, is a sure sign of allergies (especially if they're fine throughout the rest of the year). What RedHed1973 said... Benadryl. We actually give ours the regular kind (non-drowsy of course). Works like a charm and stops the itchy skin, watery eyes, runny nose, eye boogers & sneezing. Late April through August is allergy season for our girls, so we stock up on Benadryl big time during those months!
Avatar m tn Like Shannon, this is much too late to be useful to you - and I am assuming you managed to find an emergency vet (hope so). There is virtually nothing that can be done in the domestic home situation, because dogs in severe difficulty with heart and respiratory symptoms need close professional care - and usually a supply of oxygen to help them breathe.
203342 tn?1328737207 Hey April - sorry I didn't see your updates sooner. Yes, you'll need to ask your vet about either rimadyl or deramaxx. In extreme cases, some vets add muscle relaxers to the anti-inflammatory meds too. Rimadyl is not very expensive as it's been on the market for a number of years. Although, since Maltese dogs are small, you won't have to use much of either medication. It's definitely time to see the vet for pain relief.
Avatar f tn As with our dog Travis, just one bit of extra fat can be lethal. In older dogs, the organs may already be struggling to do their jobs with no particular symptoms until it's too late. Please try not to destroy yourself with guilt. Most people aren't aware of the dangers of that "one little bit" of people food - particularly when their dogs appear to be perfectly healthy. Pork is particularly notorious due to the high fat content.
Avatar f tn Haha, he has two rooms in the house. Anyways...all of his food and water and beds are in there, which is also in direct view of the living room. We do the clapping thing al the time, but he just looks up, hair all a mess and then goes back at it. He is normall well behaved and will listen to our clap when it comes to other things, but this it is like something takes a hold of him. Crazy dog!
Avatar n tn There are 3 other dogs in the house and they drink from 1 shared bowl in the kitchen and each have their own water bowl in their rooms they occupy. Teddy has her own bowl in her room and I put it in her crate when we leave for the day. She doesn't drink from the other dogs' bowls. Any suggestions ? Ideas ? What else can I do to entice her to drink ?
203342 tn?1328737207 Our oldest dog, a 12 yr old Akita, has been acting "like a puppy" too. When we moved here two years ago, the fire alarm actually scared the poop out of her. We only moved about two blocks away and she wan't afraid of the old fire alarm which sounds just like this one. Maybe dogs react to different sound frequencies. She is also "big sister" to three young dogs.
637356 tn?1301924822 I am looking to get a small to medium size dog that can sleep with her at night and become her companion. I also have 2 large dogs that have been with our family for a long time but they like to be outside more than inside. What small breed would be good for her?? What breed would be able to handle a 3 year old holding them, playing with them, and not get aggressive or break easily?? She loves my mom's pug but I am not that found of pugs. The way they breath drives me crazy.
Avatar n tn My little Maltese has Cushings Disease. He gained 6 pounds in a little over a month and drank and ate constantly. The vet put him on Lysodren - - and very little! He only gets 1/4 of a 500 mg pill twice a week and he has already dropped the weight and eats less and doesnt drink quite as much. One morning he had green gunk in one of his eyes and it was stuck together. I held him with a warm wet cloth over it and then it seemed OK.
Avatar n tn My dog is 7 years old and she is a Bichon Maltese. Since last night, she has been panting constantly and she runs into hidden small places that she has never gone to before. What do you think is causing this strange behavior?
Avatar n tn I too believe in teh holestic vets and I am now feeding my dogs Natural Balance because it has a few things in there that are supose to be good for dogs with hypothyroid. One of my dogs that has this condtion started having seizures.... this i sunder control right now. When the blood work is done, make sure to get a clear copy of it for your self so you can look up things for yourself.
518257 tn?1213575694 In the home were other dogs including a male yorkie approx 4lbs. Emmalee is 5.2lbs (the maltese) I think she may have gotton pregnant prior to me getting her by this male yorkie. She is very clingy to me (mom) and not anyone else in the house (dad, 2 kids) I litterally cannot go anywhere without her in my arms. Today I noticed she looked "full" and her nipples, when pinched gently, excrete small white discharge. How do I know if she is pregnant for sure, prior to her Vet appt??
