I live on a farm and have many barn cats. Last fall I noticed many of them sneezing,and they have leaky eyes and now that winter is here they are really coughing and sneezing with eyes and noses that are leaking. I feel so sorry for them and I don't know what they have? I have been giving them lots of warm meals and cleaning their eyes and noses. Thank you.
It may be worth mentioning that I have within the past few years had an ill-defined tooth/jaw pain issue related to a previous filling in my molar, which flares up occasionally and responds somewhat to amoxicillin (it is not an abscess, perhaps it's related to food getting trapped above my filling, or something else related to my filling). In past episodes, I had slight fever and swollen neck lymph nodes and severe jaw pain, from these flare ups.
Sudden onset or temporary clear discharge from the eyes can be caused by injury (although this is unlikely if the discharge is from both eyes), allergic reaction or an upper respiratory tract infection - just like when humans get watery eyes when suffering from a cold. If your cat has a respiratory infection he is likely to also develop a wet nose.

Lola is an 11month old lab/hound mix. On May 10th she started sniffling and sneezing. Over a few days she developed hives on her snout, swollen glands under her arms, and congestion. After two weeks of cephalexin the hives went down, as well as her swollen glands. However, she became extremely lethargic, loss of appetite, weight loss, and hair loss/skin lesions. She was then started on a two week dose of doxy followed by two weeks of zenaquin.
My 15 month old male cat, Cheeky, has been having a recurrent illness during the past 3 months. He has an extremely high temperature, walks very slowly and gingerly and does not eat. Vet gives him antibiotics each time. Cheeky then perks up for a short whlle but is soon back to his illness again. Vet had a look inside but could not find anything and now says the condition is probably viral.
Now my cat is sneezing less...but still sneezing now and again so I am not sure what to think. She seems normal otherwise (hard to tell if she is having extra cat naps since she is a cat who snoozes). Maybe it was the cleaning products? If it is an infection, what would be the chances only she would have it and not my other cat? They both hang out together and both are indoor cats.....
Hello, I have a cat who has sense the day we rescued him been sneezing and at points discharging, for a lack of better words, snot balls on the walls. We have taken him to the vet and have received a medication that did not work after completing the full bottle. I don't recall the name of this medicine. My question is, are there any over-the-counter medications that we can give this poor cat so we don't have to pay 50$ over and over again to visit the Vet.
hi and welcome to our cat community. we aren't Vets here only other cat owners, its really pretty hard to give any help without a diagnosis. Was he vaccinated recently? this could cause some lethargic symptoms.
Is it possible kitty is up and playing all night as some will do, than sleeps all day, perhaps this is his normal routine but since its the weekend and you are home now this is the first time you've observed his routine?

We took her home in a crate (recently used by my other cat and my dog sometimes slept in there) and when we were in the car she started sneezing and one of her eyes was a little bit watery. Now that shes home she continues to sneeze often and her eye is still watery. Could something in my house be irritating her? Could she be allergic to something? Or did i adopt a sick kitten? I would wait 3-4 weeks after the last vaccine booster is given. It is possible for the FIV+ cat to get symptoms of URI after vaccination. It depends on how well the immune system responds to the vaccine. Most likely, the vaccine will help limit symptoms though.

You should take him to the Vet + get him checked out. This is what they do when they have an illness. My Cat jumped in the middle of the bed peed everywhere, while I was running to rescue that situation he ran into the next bedroom and did the same thing, he was really ill it turned out. No harm to run by the vet I think.
You should never give medicine prescribed for a human to a cat. It is very dangerous to the cat to do this.
How many days has your kitty been sneezing ? I don't know where you read on the internet that you can give a cat amoxicilian . You can't believe everything you read on line. You said you have no choice. Ah, but you do. You say you don't have money to take her to a vet. There are some vets that will let you pay a little at a time.
It all depends on what kind of stuff you're breathing in. Ask your doctor about if it's safe to continue or not. They are concerned about stuff like lead also cat litter boxes.
Prescribed Clindamycin for a whole month. His only symptoms after a day or two back on was increased sneezing (or reverse sneezing and some snorting) He was doing incredibly well after 1/1/2 weeks on antibiotic again, but we started having problems getting it into him. Called the vet on Friday Aug 18 and her assistant suggested holding the antibiotic over the weekend. Called on Monday and couldn't talk to vet until Tuesday afternoon. She suggested giving antibiotic only every other day.
my 4yr old golden retriever is constantly sniffing where my 13yr old bengal cat has been. They are both males and the cat has been spayed. My cat has had a cough or asthma for over a year now. Last year I took him to the vet where they did all sorts of tests, bloodwork, xrays & scans etc. It was very expensive & my cat was petrified over the few days they did all this. The vet said his heart looked unusual but it was fine. He gave me theophylline for the cough which did help.
