Common Questions and Answers about Smoking effects society

smoking

Avatar f tn I quit over 2yrs ago with help from the patches. Smoking affects everything you do and the older I get the more society turns against smokers. I smoked for over 40yrs before I quit but it was starting to cause really bad wheezing at night and other health issues. There are many smokers on this forum, they'll be in later.
Avatar m tn s not the fun harmelss drug they once believed it was. Heavy pot smoking has been linked to lung cancer and mental illness and more things. Even just a little pot can affect your thinking and your life. I was a daily potsmoker for 20 years and am so glad to have a clear head and clear lungs. It can be a valuable medicine for people with cancer , wasting syndrom or glacoma (sp) but you will both be better parents without it.
Avatar f tn Stop smoking both immediately. Smoking will harm your baby and make them have a low birth weight.
Avatar f tn The only thing that temporarily helps my depression and social anxiety is b vitamin injections (accidently realized this seeing a weight loss dr.) , adderrall, and smoking a cigarette. Weird I dont get addicted but I smoke to get a break from my darkness and hopelessness. My husband smokes regularly and he doesnt get the feeling I get. He is irritable and shows withdrawal symptoms wen he needs a cigarette.
Avatar f tn Why does society judge people by their past?
1565702 tn?1295292830 I dont want to get into a huge smokers rights argument with people - not because I dont think there are valid points - obviously, this is a health board, and obviously I agree that there are very legitimate concerns with the health effects of smoking.
Avatar f tn What are the side effects of smoking when pregnant? Did any of u girls smoke when u were pregnant? I'm 16 weeks and trying to quit but it a lot harder than I thought .
Avatar f tn I did some research about negative effects of pot smoking and I discovered several potential health problems for him when pot is combined with his meds. Pot impairs the immune system and his Humira is suppressing it. Smoking pot can increase heart rate which his Adderall does as well. That concerns me. I have done a lot of reading about ADHD so I can be as supportive and understanding as possible, so I know that drug abuse can be common with ADHD.
Avatar n tn But i stopped for almost a year with no problems. never really a big user. but recently i smoked alot over the past week. and i stopped smoking and drinking all together a day or two later because i was feeling really wierd. i get butterflyes in my stomach, sometimes randomly feel dizzy, disconnected from people and things.. i feel the best when i wake up in the morning and then it kinda starts through out the day.
Avatar m tn Yes,I agree with IBK. If smoking weed is an escape or a "buffer",you need to look at that. It WILL break down your guard and may make it so much more difficult to stay away from the other drugs you've used. You need to put some "clean time" between you and all the drugs,I think...
519156 tn?1265181787 Though the study is the first to note the combined effects of smoking and HPV on the lungs, doctors have known for a while that women who smoke and contract HPV are more likely to develop cervical cancer than nonsmokers, said Dr. Lauren F. Streicher, an OB/GYN and professor at Northwestern Medical School. "Smoking plays a key role in the rate of conversion to malignancy in cervical cancer too," she said.
Avatar f tn I have a close friend who has been addicted to marijuana for a long time, she also smoked during her pregnancy and no they did not test her for it when she gave birth. I don't know much on the effects of marijuana use during pregnancy but I strongly suggest that you look into that for the benefit of the baby. I know that she breastfed for quite a while, continuing to pass the drug onto her child. Our sons are the same age and have been friends since infancy.
Avatar f tn I still continued to smoke for a couple of days, but only a couple of puffs from my husbands cigarette 2-3 times a day, then I looked online about the effects off smoking whilst pregnant and quit straight away! There are times when I would like a cigarette but I care for my unborn baby a million times more than a dirty fag! Honestly the best thing you can do is quit, every time you smoke your babies tiny heartbeat has to beat extremely fast as it struggles for oxygen!
Avatar m tn I've read many studies on the research of marijuana on the lungs, brain, heart, etc. From my findings, I have found that moderate smoking poses little risk to the body. While I've ready pretty consistent reports on marijuana effects on the heart and brain, I read different articles about marijuana on the lungs everyday.
1700899 tn?1307069507 Only thing that helped me was acceptance and allowing my self to sleep when I was tired, not when society dictated it. There are other sleep disorders on this lines, too, like a delayed sleep disorder aka "night owl", but more information on what you mean about 'can't ever sleep' is needed before anyone can give you any suggestions or help that is relevant to you.
Avatar f tn The liver filters everything that goes into your body. The chemicals from smoking may not get a first pass through the liver as if you'd eaten them but smoking is not liver friendly.
Avatar f tn If you stop smoking, that's the best thing you can do. You are young, you've only smoked a couple of cigarettes and you can reverse the effects if you quit. Good for you for being concerned about it! Be tough and stop smoking now!
Avatar f tn Look up some articles if you want to know the effects of smoking. You don't want to put anything into your body tat isn't good for either of you while you are pregnant. I don't know of any doctors who would encouraged you to continue smoking unless you are stressing out more from not smoking.
Avatar f tn People have many different opinions but there are no studys that find anything wrong with it unless you are smoking blunts which have tobacco in it or smoking a large amount daily i have also have drs say it would be ok to take a hit if it helps you eat and stops the nausea
1536705 tn?1324329047 As far as I know there have not been any actual effects found for smoking weed. The literature says the only known effects are the same of that found for smoking cigarettes. Although it just cant be good for mum or baby. She needs to ensure that she is taking in the correct vitamins etc and I dont know how smoking weed effects these thing in your body. Have a chat with her.
Avatar f tn Google how smoking effects your baby. One was it increases the risk of sids (sudden infant death syndrome). That alone should be enough for someone to quit but a lot of moms turn a blind eye to the negative side effects. Best of luck quitting! !!
Avatar f tn I was a smoker and stopped straight away i dont even crave anymore and i do feel a lot better for it although ive got to admit i have to watch what i eat as at first i think i ate to give me something to do lol. I googled what effects smoking has on a baby and that was enough to put me off straight away. Im not saying its not going to be hard especially if you have smokers around you but id also ask them to refrain from smoking anywhere near you.
1469794 tn?1286630557 Also, my sense of smell and taste is peaked and nothing tastes good? I thought when you quit smoking it HELPS your taste buds or does it take time?
Avatar f tn So I know this woman who is about as far along as I am (34weeks), and she smokes at least a cigarette everyday, and has been throughout her entire pregnancy. She told me it was because her doctor said that of she "quit cold turkey" that it could have negative effects on the baby because of with drawels, though she had plenty of time to quit by now. Is this true?? What do you guys think??
