Not just that but smoke clings to your hair, clothes, skin, hands. .. I can't even count the number of sick infants and toddlers I've cared for in the hospital with bad respiratory infections, asthma or croup with parents who smoke. Even though they go out side the hospital to smoke while their child is admitted they come back smelling awful and their small hospital room is so full of that stench that it's hard for a healthy person to breathe.

I have taken these few days to do some searching through the medical literature and while there are many worrisome reports cropping up about the effects on the adult users, there is precious little on the effects in pregnancy, and nothing at all on the long term effects on children who have been effected. My friend recently told me that she dipped her cigarette into cocaine and smoked it. I didn't like the fact that she did it but to make matters worse, she's pregnant and was pregnant when she did it. She's only 15 weeks along but I was wondering how this could effect the pregnancy or the child. It was only one time but I'm still worried that there could be side effects.

What are the side effects of smoking when pregnant? Did any of u girls smoke when u were pregnant? I'm 16 weeks and trying to quit but it a lot harder than I thought .

But i stopped for almost a year with no problems. never really a big user. but recently i smoked alot over the past week. and i stopped smoking and drinking all together a day or two later because i was feeling really wierd. i get butterflyes in my stomach, sometimes randomly feel dizzy, disconnected from people and things.. i feel the best when i wake up in the morning and then it kinda starts through out the day.

Well infants with mothers who smoked marijuana while pregnant have been shown to need after birth care for symptoms of withdrawal, and non-normal behavioral issues. No matter what, even the risk of it being true is not worth it. I smoked up until I found out I was pregnant, I do not have a problem with it. My doctor was really okay with it when I was open enough to tell her, and she explained to me the side effects, and the possible risk.

Have you informed your Doctor that you were doing this? If not it might be a good idea to do so......Social services has been known (in NY State anyway) to take babies away from mothers if tested positive for drugs when born. I work as a nurse...occasionally in Pediatrics....that's how I know this.....I can't understand why you continued to do so for FOUR months after finding out that you were pregnant...

I have a close friend who has been addicted to marijuana for a long time, she also smoked during her pregnancy and no they did not test her for it when she gave birth. I don't know much on the effects of marijuana use during pregnancy but I strongly suggest that you look into that for the benefit of the baby. I know that she breastfed for quite a while, continuing to pass the drug onto her child. Our sons are the same age and have been friends since infancy.

Look up some articles if you want to know the effects of smoking. You don't want to put anything into your body tat isn't good for either of you while you are pregnant. I don't know of any doctors who would encouraged you to continue smoking unless you are stressing out more from not smoking.

People have many different opinions but there are no studys that find anything wrong with it unless you are smoking blunts which have tobacco in it or smoking a large amount daily i have also have drs say it would be ok to take a hit if it helps you eat and stops the nausea

As far as I know there have not been any actual effects found for smoking weed. The literature says the only known effects are the same of that found for smoking cigarettes. Although it just cant be good for mum or baby. She needs to ensure that she is taking in the correct vitamins etc and I dont know how smoking weed effects these thing in your body. Google how smoking effects your baby. One was it increases the risk of sids (sudden infant death syndrome). That alone should be enough for someone to quit but a lot of moms turn a blind eye to the negative side effects. Best of luck quitting! !!

I was a smoker and stopped straight away i dont even crave anymore and i do feel a lot better for it although ive got to admit i have to watch what i eat as at first i think i ate to give me something to do lol. I googled what effects smoking has on a baby and that was enough to put me off straight away. Im not saying its not going to be hard especially if you have smokers around you but id also ask them to refrain from smoking anywhere near you.
