Common Questions and Answers about Smoking effects baby

smoking

Avatar f tn What are the side effects of smoking when pregnant? Did any of u girls smoke when u were pregnant? I'm 16 weeks and trying to quit but it a lot harder than I thought .
Avatar f tn They will definatly ask you about drug use - but I do not recall being tested...
Avatar f tn I still continued to smoke for a couple of days, but only a couple of puffs from my husbands cigarette 2-3 times a day, then I looked online about the effects off smoking whilst pregnant and quit straight away! There are times when I would like a cigarette but I care for my unborn baby a million times more than a dirty fag! Honestly the best thing you can do is quit, every time you smoke your babies tiny heartbeat has to beat extremely fast as it struggles for oxygen!
1536705 tn?1324329047 Im nearly 18 weeks and my friend is going 25 weeks, Im just a little concerned because although I love her to bits, she does smoke alot of weed daily and I dont really know the effects it will have on her unborn baby. Im sure shes aware its not healthy, but Im curious what the effects will be so that if/when I tell her of my concerns I can make her of the damage shes doing. Does anyone know much about this?
Avatar f tn You need to worry about your own baby if shes not concerned about smoking while pregnant. Some people just don't get it, smoking AND second hand smoke is NOT OK for a baby.
Avatar f tn People have many different opinions but there are no studys that find anything wrong with it unless you are smoking blunts which have tobacco in it or smoking a large amount daily i have also have drs say it would be ok to take a hit if it helps you eat and stops the nausea
Avatar f tn So I know this woman who is about as far along as I am (34weeks), and she smokes at least a cigarette everyday, and has been throughout her entire pregnancy. She told me it was because her doctor said that of she "quit cold turkey" that it could have negative effects on the baby because of with drawels, though she had plenty of time to quit by now. Is this true?? What do you guys think??
Avatar f tn I was a smoker and stopped straight away i dont even crave anymore and i do feel a lot better for it although ive got to admit i have to watch what i eat as at first i think i ate to give me something to do lol. I googled what effects smoking has on a baby and that was enough to put me off straight away. Im not saying its not going to be hard especially if you have smokers around you but id also ask them to refrain from smoking anywhere near you.
Avatar f tn Google how smoking effects your baby. One was it increases the risk of sids (sudden infant death syndrome). That alone should be enough for someone to quit but a lot of moms turn a blind eye to the negative side effects. Best of luck quitting! !!
Avatar f tn I'm pretty sure the effects are the same as smoking cigarettes. My mother smoked weed while pregnant with me and I had breathing problems at birth and I was taken away from her until I was 4 months old. Is it really worth any of the possible side effects. Plus it depletes your brain cells and right now your babies brain is developing very rapidly so why chance it....
Avatar f tn 35 weeks and still smoking.
Avatar f tn Your brain and body do feel the effects of the drug nicotine in the tabacco. Your baby will feel it to, and it may or may not effect brain developement. My mom had 2 sisters. Of the 3 mommys, one smoked cigarettes and drank a little during pregnancy. The 2 mom's who did not smoke or drink had multiple healthy live births where all kids went to college...school teachers, attorneys, business peeps. The aunt who smoked and drank had low birth weight babies.
Avatar f tn Ive been smoking for over 15 years...this is my 1st pregnancy, and honestly, just the thought of my baby not being able to get enough oxygen or blood flow from me is enough to have me quit. I quit cold turkey. This child should not suffer because of my selfish digusting habit. Thats what worked for me. Good luck to ya!
7933716 tn?1396130374 I had a baby boy a year ago, i smoked, he is completely healthy, and im 36 weeks now with second baby, still smoking, the baby seems to be fine..
Avatar f tn I believe that it WILL harm the baby or that it could at least potentially harm the baby. The average mom wouldn't even participate in a study where she would smoke marijuana while pregnant. I am sure there are moms who have smoked and their babies were fine but there are no guarantees. To me, it's like putting a joint or cigarette in your baby's hands.
Avatar f tn like i said before its up to you as you know how to take it best... the fact is smoking is decreasing oxygen to your baby, when you quit it imediately increases and is better for you baby so debating which is more stressful on the baby is never ending thats why Drs have mixed answers on this... some say quitting cold turkey also decreases the risk of miscarriage, premature birth, and other complications... and some say quitting COULD (not WILL) cause a MC due to stress of withdrawl...
Avatar f tn When you see the horrible effects that can happen to the baby because of smoking, quitting will make it that much worth it. Smoking ciggs can cause cleft lip and stunted growth as well as respiratory problems. Quitting for those 9 months to avoid a life time of health challenges for your child will be worth it in the end. I promise you!
Avatar f tn I know people who smoked with everyone of thei pregnancies and their children were fine and thats what they said through every pregnancy, "well i smoked with so and so and they r just fine" but what is smoking worth? There is always a chance it could really hurt your baby. Would you really want something to happen to them knowing you could have prevented it?
Avatar f tn Of course smoking is bad for your baby and you. The ill effects of smoking have been known for a while. A long while.
Avatar n tn i decided it was best for my baby if i quit smoking all together but every mother has her own opinion
Avatar n tn But i stopped for almost a year with no problems. never really a big user. but recently i smoked alot over the past week. and i stopped smoking and drinking all together a day or two later because i was feeling really wierd. i get butterflyes in my stomach, sometimes randomly feel dizzy, disconnected from people and things.. i feel the best when i wake up in the morning and then it kinda starts through out the day.
Avatar f tn There have been hundreds of studies to prove all the terrible effects smoking had on the unborn baby. Low birth weight, increased risk of miscarriage to name just two. If you measure babies heart beat before and after smoking you can see that it raises their heart rate. Same as it does the adult who is smoking. Imagine holding a cigarette to a brand new baby's mouth, would you do it? ...... no.
Avatar f tn Yes ut can affect baby by cutting off oxygen which can cause deformities, brain damage, and puts you at an extreme risk for preterm labor (can be as early as 30wks). Baby can get jaundice from smoking mothers, and have breathing problems. Some babys end up in NICU care for as much as 3 months after birth. Those are just a few risks to baby. You are putting yourself at risk for preeclampsia (high blood pressure). Thats the only risk I can think of right now to you, it mostly could harm your baby.
