Common Questions and Answers about Smoking cessation depression

smoking

Avatar f tn Clinical findings aside stopping smoking is rough for anyone so you can expect things to be difficult for a while and for standard symptoms from bipolar to worsen for a while. If you need any smoking cessation aides to help you can speak to your psychiatrist or doctor about it. As well they can adjust medications in the meantime so things are more stable if symptoms return.
Avatar m tn wellbutrin is not indicated in the cessation of smoking marijuana, but it does increase your chances of seizure if you drink alcohol while taking it. also, smoking, i think it actually either helps with the cessation of anxiety in anxious peoples or adds anxiety on non anxious people so if you are smoking to chill out (just a guess), you might want to try anti-anxiety meds instead.
Avatar n tn Zoloft is NOT used for smoking cessation - Zoloft is almost exclusively used for depression, though sometimes it can be used for chronic pain as the pain often depletes the body's ability to deal with stress. Zoloft is typically used for long periods of time - 3-6 months or longer, and like most anti-depressenta, it takes 2-3 weeks til the benefits start to be felt. I believe your Doctor made a mistake giving you Zoloft. It will not work to help quit smoking.
Avatar f tn It is also a signal that if you do not stop smoking, your lung function will increasingly continue to rapidly deteriorate. That means that smoking cessation is not just the abandonment of a bad habit but a crucial act that will prevent further loss of lung function, reduce the frequency of lung infections, reduce the likelihood of lung (and other) cancers, enhance the quality of your life and extend the length of your life.

Avatar m tn I've been unwell for a very long time, and my PCPs (and some specialists) haven't been able to help me and never really seemed to take me seriously. I first began feeling unwell around 2013, right around the time I began to be exposed (unknowingly) to black-colored mold behind my shower wall (on the drywall). I didn't discover the mold until probably late 2016. There are other factors, such as smoking and smoking cessation, as well as clonazepam and clonazepam cessation.

Avatar n tn tina i think you already know the answer to that, you are already getting symptoms of your body being poisoned with tobaco again, your body had started to change for the better from not smoking, so you will just undo the progress you made from cessation of smoking, so if i was you unless you want to kill yourself, is dump the ciggarettes NOW THEY JUST POISON YOUR BODY from a ex long term smoker, who will never go back to smoking, why on earth did you start again after tha length of time.
Avatar m tn After I stopped smoking, I experienced slight nausea and lots of fatigue the first week. So it's possible it's part of the withdraw process. But I don't know about the canker sores or the fever.
Avatar n tn Hopefull my body will adjust and the drug works for my smoking cessation / depression!
1262435 tn?1270311859 This diminution in risk occurs relatively soon after cessation of smoking, and increasing intervals since the last cigarette smoked are associated with progressively lower mortality rates from CHD. Similar rapid decreases in risk with smoking cessation are also seen for ischemic stroke. Benefits from quitting are seen in former smokers even after many years of heavy smoking.
Avatar m tn I started taking Zyban about two months ago for smoking cessation. At first I had very little side effects - in fact, I felt fantastic and ceased smoking within the first week. Three weeks into the treatment, I became emotionally very unstable, crying for no reason, feelings of worthlessness - almost an induced depression with insomnia, very vivid dreams, severe join pains etc. I coped well with those until I went out one night, had a few drinks and a total blackout followed.
Avatar m tn t feel like this in years.Yes it could be from antidepressant withdrawal alone but could be from smoking cessation combined with it. I don't know what to do.
Avatar f tn What I believe Paxiled meant was that BuSpar hasn't exactly been a stellar success at helping with ANY of the disorders it's prescribed for. It's "main" function/use is for treatment of depression, but it's efficacy for that disorder is minimal at best and in some circles is gaining a reputation as the "low rent" antidepressant.
Avatar f tn I know Zyban is another smoking cessation aide but that is another name for the anti-depressent Wellbutrin and an anti-depressent alone in bipolar can often worsen mania. Those are the two that are clinically approved and in standard use. Others are in experimental use.
Avatar f tn Yes someone I know who used Chantix for smoking cessation got side effects from it that took a long time to go away. If you are having further concerns speak to a doctor about it and as with any medication for information on side effects both short and long term look up the medication website because they all must be listed by FDA law.
Avatar f tn s not, ask them to recommend how to cut back and quit, or ask them to recommend a smoking cessation method to help you (the patch, the gum, etc)...and see if there are any smoking cessation programs in your state that you can call for information as well.

The great majority of us attribute smoking to nicotine addiction, not to a “mental defect.” Do consult with your doctor regarding medicine and call your local smoking cessation program. Good luck.
Avatar m tn I have recently been approved by VA for a chantix prescription, and expect to start the cessation program within days. I've been told that a recent medical study indicates that a male of my age, 66, incurs decreased longevity by quitting smoking after 50 years addiction. can someone direct me to such a study, or advise if I've been misled?
Avatar m tn You don't have to monitor your levels every week during the smoking cessation process... I'm sure there's going to be some discomfort, but we've all (those who have quit smoking) gone through discomfort with both the smoking cessation AND being hypo until we got to the correct level of medication.
