Avatar n tn Wellbutrin is the version of bupropion often prescribed and intended to treat depression, while Zyban is used for smoking cessation. (Though some Docs prescribe Wellbutrin to help stop smoking too..) Good luck stopping smoking! I'm sure you will feel better!
Avatar m tn If you recently quit smoking and started taking a psychotropic medication and the stopped taking it your brain chemistry could be all over the place. I wouldn't expect the blackouts to keep happening, and I would expect weird symptoms for the next couple of months. In a few months you should stabilize though. I would really recommend seeing a real doctor as I am just some guy who sees a real doctor.
467579 tn?1289402969 In the meantime, you and other smokers should take advantage of currently available medicines and state-sponsored, smoking cessation programs. The great majority of us attribute smoking to nicotine addiction, not to a “mental defect.” Do consult with your doctor regarding medicine and call your local smoking cessation program. Good luck.
Avatar f tn This is just a partial list of the benefits that will accrue to you with smoking cessation and the reason why your deciding to do so is such a good decision. Or, as stated by the American Lung Association, “Commit a death defying act. Stop smoking!” For many smokers, if not for most of those who smoke, it can be very difficult to quit smoking on your own.

Avatar m tn I've been unwell for a very long time, and my PCPs (and some specialists) haven't been able to help me and never really seemed to take me seriously. I first began feeling unwell around 2013, right around the time I began to be exposed (unknowingly) to black-colored mold behind my shower wall (on the drywall). I didn't discover the mold until probably late 2016. There are other factors, such as smoking and smoking cessation, as well as clonazepam and clonazepam cessation.

Avatar m tn Well amen to you for being such a great friend. It's sooo hard to quit smoking much less trying to do it without the support of friends and family. I've been there and failed many times due to no support. So, about the patches. None of them are "worthless". It just matters how badly you wanna quit and how much support you have around you. Quitting will be difficult no matter what your friend uses. These are only aids to (help) with withdraw.

Avatar f tn Hey everybody, I just quit smoking 3 months ago and I have been having a number of health concerns since, mostly chest pains, I was wondering if anybody else had this problem and if so how long did it take to get better?
Avatar m tn If he does want to quit but has a hard time doing so tell him to ask his doctor if they having smoking cessation which is to help people to quit smoking. He can also go cold turkey but if he does make sure he is doing some active and be there for him because having a good friend around to make sure you don't slide back and light up is really helpful.

1262435 tn?1270311859 This diminution in risk occurs relatively soon after cessation of smoking, and increasing intervals since the last cigarette smoked are associated with progressively lower mortality rates from CHD. Similar rapid decreases in risk with smoking cessation are also seen for ischemic stroke. Benefits from quitting are seen in former smokers even after many years of heavy smoking.
Avatar f tn The risk diminishes over time, following smoking cessation, but will always remain higher than the risk of someone who has never smoked. There are a number of genes that can occur in a variety of forms. Some forms are associated with an increased risk of lung cancer, one example of which is called tumor suppressor gene TP53. When present, this gene variant increases the risk of lung cancer, especially the risk for small cell lung cancer.
Avatar f tn What I believe Paxiled meant was that BuSpar hasn't exactly been a stellar success at helping with ANY of the disorders it's prescribed for. It's "main" function/use is for treatment of depression, but it's efficacy for that disorder is minimal at best and in some circles is gaining a reputation as the "low rent" antidepressant.
Avatar f tn I know Zyban is another smoking cessation aide but that is another name for the anti-depressent Wellbutrin and an anti-depressent alone in bipolar can often worsen mania. Those are the two that are clinically approved and in standard use. Others are in experimental use.
Avatar f tn I woke up today and felt close to normal and then it came back again. I had depression 16 years ago, which started off with post pardom depression that lead into severe depression which this is feeling way too familiar to that and I do NOT want to go through that again. There is no chance that Chantix brought it back and even though I quit the Chantix it's stuck?
Avatar f tn s not, ask them to recommend how to cut back and quit, or ask them to recommend a smoking cessation method to help you (the patch, the gum, etc)...and see if there are any smoking cessation programs in your state that you can call for information as well.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Wellbutrin (buproprion) for smoking cessation and have been on it for roughly 3 weeks. It is the SR, 150mg in the AM and 150mg in the PM. I have also been on methadone for roughly five years and have been at the same dosage of 25mgs for over a year. Once starting buproprion (i got the generic), the side affects were pretty bad. I felt like I was on amphetamines.
326505 tn?1304169225 Attributing the anxiety to smoking cessation was transference of blame. In fact, they were having a normal reaction to an abnormal situation - confinement due to the blizzard. They would have had the same anxiety whether or not they had given up cigarettes. The above story illustrates an atypical time period in which numerous people experience similar complaints. In everyday life inherent problems exist. Work, family, friends, and money can all contribute to daily distress.
