Avatar f tn In addition smoking also clearly affects your pulmonary status and has potential affects when undergoing general anesthesia. It probably takes a year or more after discontinuing smoking to put any individual in the same status as a non-smoker.
Avatar m tn All in all you have not been smoking that long, maybe three years. That does not mean that the pain in your chest is not related to smoking, but is more likely due to some other cause. Go to your doctor and have him examine you. It could be angina, for instance.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Wellbutrin (buproprion) for smoking cessation and have been on it for roughly 3 weeks. It is the SR, 150mg in the AM and 150mg in the PM. I have also been on methadone for roughly five years and have been at the same dosage of 25mgs for over a year. Once starting buproprion (i got the generic), the side affects were pretty bad. I felt like I was on amphetamines.
Avatar m tn My mom smoked with me and I was 4 weeks early, have asthma, chronic ear infections, and weighed less than 5lbs. I actually did a research paper on the affects of smoking and pregnancy and while some babies may experience minimal affects or some moms might "think" their babies are completely healthy; what they don't realize is that the asthma or allergies their child has is related to smoking while pregnant.
Avatar f tn Smoking results in reduced blood supply to tissues and affects healing from surgical procedures. In a typical breast reduction, while the nipple is not removed, it is carried on a pedicle flap to its new location. The flap has a reduced blood supply that can be further compromised in a smoker. Smoking is well know to compromise circulation to skin that has been elevated at the time of surgery. Stopping smoking for several weeks before a surgical procedure is not the answer.
Avatar f tn s what I thought, plus the affects of smoking while pregnant seem to be way worse than the withdrawals to me..
Avatar f tn Smoking has been linked to low birth weight and preterm labor. Both of which would be far more detrimental to your baby than any possible affects of quitting. I speak from experience - I smoked throughout my first pregnancy. My daughter was born at 40 wks 3 days via emergency c-section because there was a lack of amniotic fluid - as in NONE. She was breech and suffered from Intrauterine growth restriction. She was full term and weighed a mere 4 lbs 15 oz.

Avatar f tn I respect your hook question, but Tabasco is nicotine which calms you because it affects dopamine level in your brain. It also reduce oxygen carrying in blood stream temporarily which slows down your thought patterns, making you relax. Your brain and body do feel the effects of the drug nicotine in the tabacco. Your baby will feel it to, and it may or may not effect brain developement. My mom had 2 sisters. Of the 3 mommys, one smoked cigarettes and drank a little during pregnancy.
Avatar m tn at this point the only thing that the cigarettes are doing, is burning your lungs (which affects tidle volume), hampered your ability to taste slightly and may have caused a slight increase in blood pressure. cigarettes are smelly, i never realized how bad they smelled until i stopped. you don't wanna be smelly.

Avatar f tn I have arthritis in my right hand, knees and hips, going through early menopause, get abcesses all, and I do mean, ALL the time, have hayfever really bad, and have rosacae, which affects mostly my cheeks. The skin on the rest of my body seems well hydrated, and even oily at times, but my face is a different story. My skin is so dry that it looks like I have dandruff all the time on my face. If I try using anything on my face, it makes it red, no matter how expensive or perscription.

Avatar n tn Unless you live in a cave, you know that smoking causes constriction of the arteries all the way from your heart out to your skin (early wrinkling), it increases the formation of plaque in your arteries, it adversely affects your blood fats, and it screws up your heart rhythm (think of PVCs as the very mildest effect). http://www.ionchannels.org/showabstract.php?
Avatar f tn Not just that but smoke clings to your hair, clothes, skin, hands. .. I can't even count the number of sick infants and toddlers I've cared for in the hospital with bad respiratory infections, asthma or croup with parents who smoke. Even though they go out side the hospital to smoke while their child is admitted they come back smelling awful and their small hospital room is so full of that stench that it's hard for a healthy person to breathe.
Avatar f tn Smoking is known to increase fibrosis. However, it is not a reason not to treat. It would be best for your overall health to quit but if you can't, find another doc to treat you.
Avatar f tn There is no safe amount of smoking you can do if you are pregnant. Smoking during pregnancy affects your health as well as the health of the baby both before and after its birth. The nicotine, carbon monoxide, and many other poisons from a cigarette are carried from your lungs into your bloodstream and go directly to your baby. Smoking while pregnant will: Lower the amount of oxygen and nutrient available your growing baby. Increase your baby's heart rate.
Avatar n tn Hi This sounds like angular cheilitis. This form of skin condition affects the angles of the mouth and may be associated with a fungal infection, vitamin B deficiency and even iron deficiency. Licking the lips or biting the lips may also contribute to this. Refrain from drinking extremely hot beverages, smoking and also prolonged sun exposure. Drink plenty of water also, as dehydration may only aggravate the condition.
Avatar f tn It’s a combination of factors. Your age, health, blood pressure and etc… It is important that you discuss the smoking issue with your Obgyn, so you can find the safest way of quitting. Smoking itself can be harmful to your pregnancy and there are safe ways to come off, but it should be done under your doctors supervision at this time. Best of luck!
