Avatar f tn I would have thought that maybe you would already have had a bit of a smokers cough? I do know that cigarette smoke temporarily immobilizes the cilia in your lungs, which generally do the job of sweeping out the junk from your lungs. I can see the shortness of breath being due to the extra mucous being stuck in your lungs. However if this doesn't clear up say by 8 weeks, then perhaps it would be an idea to see your doctor, as there maybe an underlying lung condition.

Antidepressants that fall into the SSR catagory do the same thing.
Avatar n tn It's not so much the lungs of baby it affects it's the cord oxygen in theory they say every time you smoke a cigarette it's the equivalent of squeezing the cord a little.
Avatar m tn m not clear how it works, but I believe nicotine affects the serotonin in your brain, so when you quit or smoke less your serotonin level decreases. This can cause anger, anxiety, etc. Further, anti-depressants are called selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs). SSRIs are also used to treat anxiety. Perhaps decreasing your serotonin by smoking less caused your anxiety to increase, resulting in panic attacks.

In a typical breast reduction, while the nipple is not removed, it is carried on a pedicle flap to its new location. The flap has a reduced blood supply that can be further compromised in a smoker.
