Avatar n tn However, the title of the original post is what will catch the eye of current posters, so you may get a response. Lyme has many symptoms, different in different people. Avatar n tn I was brought up hearing English then french German was added , it was from possibly a later age than your child, children learn languages very easily but are definatly sometimes slow in speaking it .I would agree you have nothing to worry about ..
Avatar f tn My son is almost 5 years old. I brought hin to see psychologist and paedetrician in S'pore mid last year. He was diagnosed as moderate ADHD and speech delay. They recommended me thetherapies. Is helpful, but I can stay long or in and out of S'pore as I have the other three children to look after. There is no behaviour therapies in my region or country. Speech therapies come twice a year and my sons speech has improved alot. 1.
Avatar f tn His speech is slow in comparison to how his 3yr old sisters was at that age but you can see he knows what you're saying. I just get so frustrated with him,I don't like smacking my children and am unsure if I should be concerned or just over reacting, would really appreciate some advice and feedback if possible?
Avatar n tn are their any adults who took it as a child and had long-term negative or positive effects? Does it slow growth in children? Are their negative effects on school performance? I would really appreciate a doctor's opinion, or any other person who has had a child who has taken Prozac. Thanks so much.
342647 tn?1291107933 That is normal and it actually sounds like your baby might be advanced in the speech department! Just keep speaking clearly and talking a lot to them and they'll pick it all up. Your pediatrician will start assessing speech development during visits. At least they SHOULD. You might notice, as they do the exam, the doctor will ask your child questions like, "What's your favorite food? Do you have a special toy?" to coax them into talking to see how well they speak.
Avatar n tn This lets him know that you have understood him and in return he is hearing good grammatical speech. Try and talk to him in uncomplicated sentences - for example only say 'lets get dressed' rather than 'lets go upstairs and look in your wardrobe and choose some clothes for the day'. Often children with speech and language difficulties also have processing (of information) problems.
667445 tn?1230750538 It might be because of increment in age but I do put it in the portfolio of speech therapy. My son is now more reactive to various situations respectively, like he now enjoys nursery rhymes/cartoons more (showing some reactions) which he was initially just interested in watching. His willingness to speak is now much more but still, no sensible words as yet. Doctor reveal my son's progress to be slow and it might take 6 months or more to get the things channelized.
1772188 tn?1376837999 While on the surface it appears that children are just playing in these areas, they are actually acquiring very important skills that will help them learn for the rest of their lives. ~ a preschool should take into consideration that not every child matures at the same pace. Therefore, they need to make accommodations for children who are not ready to sit down and do desk work. A preschool should NOT be sending home dittos for homework. He is normal. He's 4!!
Avatar n tn Now he will begin to have a 45 minute class once a week at the school where he will be able to interact with other children his age. When he is outside playing with the children in the neighborhood, he just follows them around and repeats everything they say to him. He doesn't answer a question when asked, he just repeats what was said and there are a few times he will answer but it's not consistent at all.
Avatar m tn If he is not hearing his world clearly, he will have a hard time learning how to say words. He may have fluid in his ears or something fixable that will help him. I would do that first. Had he had ear infections or reflux??
Avatar f tn In fact she has a better vocabulary then other children in her age group. Her doctor is in utter awe of her speech skills. She even broke the habit herself. One day she just stopped wanting them. But yes if you are breastfeeding it's not the best idea to use them. I have a condition to where I can't produce milk at all so I had to result to formula feeding even tho I didn't want to. Which is what led to pacifier use.
Avatar m tn my son is 2 turning 3 in april he has always been slow with crawling and walking, even now he cant talk, only a few words and even they are very hard to understand, he is smaller then kids his age, he gets very frustrated all the time and when spoken to puts his head down he is very agresive to his brother for no reason he thinks it fun to hurt people my mum sugeted he mite have asburges beacause my younger sister has it what do yoiu think????????
Avatar n tn s just that they utilize their normal speech and language abilities only in certain situations. Usually speech/language therapy per se is not useful for such children, though some forms of group speech/language therapy (focusing on the pragmatics of communication) might be helpful. Likewise, cognitive-behavior therapy, focusing on the anxiety such children usually display in out-of-home settings, can be useful. As you consider intervention, it is important to obtain accurate diagnosis.
Avatar n tn I have a 25 month old girl who is significantly delayed in speech. She can say about 5 words but that is about it. She seems to understand some but not all of what we say. She will sometimes point to objects in a book if you ask her to, more likely she will point to something and want you to name it. She doesn't answer yes or no questions.
168006 tn?1241012961 Yes, the speech regression is a big concern to me. Have you heard of anyone having that turn out to be nothing?
Avatar f tn any way he has been have development delays, especially in his speech, and behavioral problems. any information would be helpful, i dont know what to do. we saw a developmental specialist a year ago because his pediatrician thought he was showing signs for autisms, but that was ruled out and was diagnosed with anxiety problems. he still is having major problem in school and going to see the specialist again in a few weeks. thank you for your time and hope to hear from you soon.
Avatar f tn My son is 3 in feb, He had speech therapy when he was 18 months old because he started to use a pet name for my daughter and would not use her name. Now his speech is really good for his age BUT he always refers to himself in the third person. Is this normal. Quotes: "Its *** Bottle" "*** Loves mummy" "*** wants sweets" He speaks like this wenever referin to himself!
5549102 tn?1376522673 Dropping letter sounds at the beginning, end or in the middle are all different issues in relation to speech. Is he putting any words together, like two words such as 'go bye'? "me juice"? That is probably the next thing to look for besides the articulation piece. But I think at this point, I wouldn't worry. A lot of speech issues self correct. My own son had some issues with not saying the middle part of words.
Avatar m tn Let him lead a life that seems normal to his own way of thinking. .Might be , he is slow in cognitive skills and cogent thinking as per "our Norma's and our own standards " . But after all what really counts is living a normal life .It is his life and I feel personally autism is something what we so-called normal humans are unable to think of because it is extraordinary .There are instances you surely would wonder . Have trust in "Him" , if you do .
Avatar n tn Is she delayed in her speech or language? I have seen children do this when they are having a hard time communicating with others. I made a necklace out of a teething toy for a child that was having problems with biting. We taught him to bite the necklace when he was angry instead of another child. This really helped him. She could be having sensory issues that can be identified by taking her to an Occupational Therapist. I do not believe this is happening for no reason.
Avatar m tn My husband didn't say a word until he was 24 months. his first words were all numbers. He didnt' say mama or dada until after age 3. Although delayed in speech, he took off quite quickly on speaking and was reading at age 3. He didnt' have any early intervention because back in the 1970s, there just wasn't until you were like 4. My brother also didn't say anything until he was after age 2.
Avatar n tn She speaks fluent gibberish, talks to invisible friends and pets, plays with her toys, and when other children are around she attempts regular speech. Should we be worried, she seems frustrated by her lack of ability to communicate with us.
Avatar f tn We found out that at the age of 7 that he is dysgraphic, ld in written and expressive language and speech delayed. He is receiving speech ,language and OT services at school. His teacher, my husband and I feel that there may be something else going on like ADHD or PDD. As a parent of a child who once had hearing loss, can relate to what you mention about not wanting to speak to certain people. I think that it is a part of not really being able to express themselves.
Avatar n tn ADHD and "hyperactivity" are the same thing - that's the same diagnosis. I'm really shocked he's already been put on meds at his young age of 3. I really think you need a better diagnosis, a more thorough testing procedure - children with hyperactivity aren't this delayed in speech, or usually very difficult to toilet train. best wishes.
