Avatar n tn When they are at my house they sleep in their seperate rooms. Autistic children sometimes act 1/2 their cronical age. I have concerns that this is causing issues with his Normal Child Development. What are your thoughts?
Avatar f tn My husband's brother is autistic (his parents had 3 children, the oldest is autistic and the younger two have had no medical problems). My husband and I are thinking about having children soon and were wondering - does my brother-in-law's autism mean that we are at a greater risk of having an autistic child? There are no other autistic family member or extended family members that we know of.
Avatar f tn Hey there, my son has problems relating to autism. Although not diagnosed ...yet! I have no history of mental problems like this in my family. However, my sons dad's sister is autistic, so therefore i believe it came from that as his dad maybe had the gene. Im guessing so anyway. But to be honest, im sure theres a history of everything in everyones families along the line! So try not too worry too much..
Avatar n tn When caregivers allow a child to “bargain out” of sleep time by asking for a few more minutes, one more show, or a snack, children are successful in taking control of situation and in delaying sleep. Once, the child is in bed, it is important to minimize interaction that would interfere with sleep and potentially reward calling out, leaving the bed, and other disruptive behavior.
Avatar n tn There are alot of serious issues with the other 5 children in my friends family, its just that i never have the chance 2 sit a chat with my mate reguarding this problem!!!....however it puts my mind at rest a little bit more as i have a 9yr old girl and at least now i can make more focused decisions.....thanks esta...
Avatar f tn If your motherinlaw works with kids who are severely autistic, she may feel that your son doesn't have autism because maybe he can speak and interact with people to some degree. My mother for a couple years was a special education teacher's assistant who had a couple of severely autistic children in her classroom, along with other kids who had some serious emotional disabilities. These are kids that would probably not be able to hold jobs after becoming adults.
Avatar f tn s work with kids because all boys will get erections but sometimes autistic kids are not aware and may put their hands in their pants in pubic and other inappropriate things. They use picture cards to explain, set boundaries and make rules regarding erections. They are often sensory oriented and the sensation an erection creates is something they seek. Not being aware of surroundings, they then seek this wherever they are.
205269 tn?1395534274 Thanks for your help! He has been tested for allergies and he's not allergic to any type of foods...just dust mites, and grass. I don't think he has been tested for any type of intollerence though but, I hope this leads to that because, I myself can't tolerate milk but, he does'nt drink milk and also, when I was a child my allergy test showed that I was allergic to gluten but, his didn't.
Avatar f tn Studies are showing out of 10,000 women that were induced over the last few years 99% of them had autistic children. What do yall think about that?
Avatar n tn But those with the hearing problems grow out of it. That is why many professionals involved with autistic children suspect that in some way they are 'deaf' - and as they also share characteristics with blind children - in some way 'blind'. They suspect this may be down to the processing of sensory information. Anyway, for a diagnosis of being on the spectrum a child has to have difficulties in three main areas and they have to have enough characteristics in each area.
Avatar f tn t know what country you are in. But if you are in the UK you can contact the National Autistic Society to see whereabouts locally you can go to get assessments done. What are her social skills like, can she play with other children her age?
Avatar n tn Unfortunately this is a growing issue and the population of Autistic children are growing. Violence is directly correlated to Autism, but every person is different. Some may not have violent out breaks but more social disorders. I suggest you check out the Autism Awareness web site for more information.
Avatar f tn You are not alone though, we have community members are dx with MS and have Autistic children or Autism in there family, so if you do end up with an MS dx, you will not do through this alone! I will say that i strongly believe parents with MS have a unprecidented understanding of what their Autistic children go through, not all of it but some MS symptoms eg sensory, are quite similar in their feelings, similar enough to help you, help and understand your child.
Avatar n tn Now he will begin to have a 45 minute class once a week at the school where he will be able to interact with other children his age. When he is outside playing with the children in the neighborhood, he just follows them around and repeats everything they say to him. He doesn't answer a question when asked, he just repeats what was said and there are a few times he will answer but it's not consistent at all.
Avatar n tn My 3 year old is attending a preschool 5 days a week 9-12 and 9-2:30 M/W/F. A few months ago they sat me down and insinuated he might have autism (waving arms when excited, opening mouth) and brought in another teacher who's son has Asperger's. Well since then we've gone to 3 doctors who've all thought he's fine. I feel as though my son is now "labeled" at his school. I think the real problem lies with his teacher, who has never taught 2 and 3 year olds before.

Avatar f tn I am 32 weeks today and I can sleep I have three other children so sleep is a must for me I don't get why I can sleep has anyone found ways to help them sleep at night even after bathroom trips
Avatar f tn You have also mentioned sensory stuff which usually accompanies an autistic spectrum disorder. Your daughter seems to have problems with light, tactile (feeling of clothes on body), doesn't like anything tight on her, heat sensitive, likes spinning/flying etc. Google the name Olga Bogdashina and read an article by her in Autism Today. She has been invited to give seminars in our city to professionals and parents. Her sensory profile questionnaire is also used by our professionals.
Avatar f tn He is very young to be diagnosed with ADHD; typically that cannot be diagnosed before school age (i.e., six or seven years of age), because until that time most of the behaviours exhibited by children with ADHD are typical of all children in the preschool years. (They may be more severe in preschoolers who have ADHD, but since some kids who are highly active in their preschool years definitely don't have ADHD, it's better to wait.
Avatar n tn I get a lot of complaints about my 6 year old -that he has been hitting and all. But he never comes home with any frustation. He doesnt even seem angry. He has never ever complained about any one or anything- anytime in his life. Also he has never really appreciated anything. He is a shy person, but doesnt respond to being teased. Howver in conflict or when troubled, he may be aggressive to peers.
Avatar n tn If paralysis involves neurological function... would a pediatric neurologist be a specialist doctor you could take him to? I don't think a regular pediatrician would have the specialty to deal with or figure out that sort of thing? Anyways, you could ask his regular pediatrician what sort of specialist he could be referred to. Temporary paralysis I think can signify lots of things. MS is one thing.
1415407 tn?1389254933 Does anyone know of an online support group for autistic parents of autistic children? I see a lot about parents of autistic children but not much for autistic parents. It is quite.a bit harder trying to raise children with disabilities when you have a disability yourself. I'd love to read what other people have to say on this subject.
Avatar f tn Sleep problems are common with many disorders including autism. Google DSM IV Autism to read the diagnostic criteria for an autistic spectrum disorder. By three years old he should be talking in sentences and should be playing with his peers. Lining up things or playing with parts of toys eg. spinning the wheels of a toy car - are also typical of being on the spectrum. Walking on toes is a sensory thing associated with Sensory Integration Disorder.
Avatar n tn (waiting for final diagnoses) My question is, is it possible (i know it´s not possible to prove it)that he became autistic because of this strange circumstances or are children always born with this? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Sometimes you have to get tough what I have found that has worked is that you take her to bed when it is time read her some stories, tuck her in ,lots of hugs, outside light if she wants, then leave her, no going in and out, children do get mixed messages and if you arent consistant their clever little brains latch on to it, they know you will go in to them, so if she comes out tell her or take her back, just do it,quietly no fuss, Unless she sleeps in the evening or during the day she should
