Avatar f tn I actually get sleep paralysis as well... It won't harm your baby at all.
Avatar n tn I always thought it was kind of cool but I can understand why it might be scary. The important thing is to know that you are not at risk -that nothing is physically wrong with you. Take care.
Avatar m tn Thanks a ton..!! Just did a quick search on Sleep Paralysis.. My case is exactly the same. It IS Sleep Paralysis, I'm sure now. I have irregular sleeping habits, loads of stress, I sleep upright.. And the symptoms are just so very accurate. I wonder how I missed this so far. I was thinking its some kind of a heart disease or brain problem or something..
568812 tn?1379165794 All I knew is that it seemed so real and I would keep the lights on. I had the sleep paralysis also where I was trying to move but could not and trying to say, "Help" but the words would not come out. It was frightening. I would often recite the Lord's prayer. My daughter though has also had the paralysis in her sleep, so not sure if it is PSTD associated alone as she did not have the abusive childhood I did.
Avatar n tn What happens in the sleep paralysis is that while arousal system has brought you out of the REM phase, your body still is paralysed. This is the short phase of time when one gets dreams of being paralysed. Some people see themselves lying on the railway track with the train approaching, but can't move a muscle. There are experiences of being paralyzed while one can see and hear the surrounding. This is definitely not something made up by your mind. It has a scientific basis to it.
Avatar f tn I am 25 years old, and I have been experiencing episodes of sleep paralysis. It feels like I am not breathing and I can't and is very scary! I am also concerned that maybe I have sleep apnea, though my husband says I do not snore, and if I do it is very quietly. I am afraid to go to sleep at night because I am afraid I will never wake up! I also deal with anxiety issues so I am not sure if it caused my that. Can you have sleep apnea without snoring? Is it dangerous?
10943479 tn?1432725499 I've had sleep paralysis since I was a teenager and since I got older and being pregnant it has gotten even worse I feel like something is after me sometimes lol
Avatar f tn My muscles were sore afterward. It is scary having these symptoms and not knowing what is causing them.
510038 tn?1489983029 Hi, I know a few with Chiari have had a couple of episodes of sleep paralysis, but I am not sure if it is Chiari related , but if it could stem from compression of the brain stem or a nerve then it is possible some of us could get it due to Chiari...... I had an episode of being awake but could not respond or move...this happened while sitting in a chair, so not sleep paralysis but a similar sensation which left me feeling the same as you....confused and terrified.
Avatar n tn Sleep paralysis occurs when you may go to sleep or may tend to wake up from sleep. It is a temporary phenomenon where you are incapable of moving your body or even part of it physically but keep trying to shout loudly or seek someone’s help. It may be lasting for a few seconds to minutes. It can repeat once again if you sleep and there is no physical injury to body, but you will be probably frightened with sweating and increased heart beat with shortness of breath.
Avatar f tn I found the answer ny accident when browsing through a medical encyclopedia, it is called sleep paralysis, and is associated with Narcolepsy. Your body is entering the paralyzed state of REM sleep shortly after, or in the process of falling asleep, but your brain doesn't know you're asleep yet. This is often accompanied by vivid, frightening hallucinations, often mirroring whatever you were doing right before you fell asleep.
Avatar f tn s why I would agree with the other posters that it is best to take Seroquel right before going to sleep but you could speak to your psychiatrist about all this.
1206353 tn?1307250410 No, it is called sleep paralysis, I have it too. I wake up and can't move for several minutes, it's terrifying, and surprisingly it is fairly common. Google sleep paralysis and there is quite abit of info avail. It's like a delayed reacation of your body vs. your brain. Some people think demons are after them, some people feel like someone is pusing on their chest, it is scary but knowing what it is helps to fight the fright and helps you to ride out the episode.

Avatar n tn I realize that some in Med field will dismiss this and that is ok-it helped this lady and that is what matters. The sleep paralysis is common and yes scary when it is you! My mother suffers from this and literally has to moan to get my dad to pull a arm or her body and gradually it comes back to her.
Avatar f tn I'm female, 15 years old, relativly healthy, so is the rest of my family. Average weight, average height and so on. (just in case that helps) I recently found out that these ..symptoms I've been having in my sleep is an actual sleeping disorder called sleep paralysis. I did reserch it and I found that most people expirience negative "dreams" during that time that sleep paralysis occured.
Avatar m tn Also, some places it has been linked to Sleep paralysis. (which mostly is waking up/falling asleep paralyses. ) - But ive read once that one of the side effects might be exactly this. and i do have sleep paralysis from time to time. Now, since im of course still scared ******** about the heart and all due to anxiety, im not gonna say "there is no need to see the doctor". I have no idea how your medical history looks like. So go see him if needed.
Avatar f tn In particular, anyone with too high pillow during sleep is bound to experience recurring sleep paralysis all night. This terrible reduced blood supply to the brain is more likely to occur during waking up during the day than during sleep at night. For example, almost everyone suddenly stands up when their blood pressure is low in summer, and has experienced the terrible symptoms of the reduced blood supply to the brain caused by orthostatic hypotension.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, there is no practical way to decipher between normal REM sleep and sleep paralysis. This is because in normal REM sleep you experience the same paralysis as in sleep paralysis; the only difference is your level of consciousness at the time. So there's no way to develop a sensor that an app could use to address this issue. This also may be of interest to you: I have a service dog whose primary task is medical alert.
1705476 tn?1307654089 Also wondering if it s normal to have throbbing pain during sleep paralysis? It only happens in one body part at a time, most often it's my neck, every couple seconds it's excruciating pain, and if I try to move at all it gets even worse, one time it it was in my head and it literally felt like my brain was going to pop out of my head :s ...
Avatar m tn The hallucinations are usually triggered by some auditory input and most report them to be extremely terrifying in nature, I being one of them. The sleep paralysis is a natural part of the REM cycle but when associated with a sleep disorder it can put a person in a state of awareness while in REM. This awareness allows the person to realize they are paralyzed and is one of the most unsettling things I have ever endured.
Avatar f tn One of the worst pregnancy symptoms for sure.. I have nightmares often, but i usually end up experiencing "sleep paralysis". It's so scary i dont wanna sleep, and so i turn the light on and pray that the bad dreams stop.. then i end up falling asleep again. I heard eating before you sleep can cause nightmares btw. Not sure if it's true.
